Indications Abistan

Abistan is used if the skin is affected by a fungus, if the patient has developed a superinfection due to bacteria. Superinfections include eczema (acute or chronic), hyperkeratosis (if the stratum corneum of the skin has become excessively thick), acute contact dermatitis, chronic hyperkeratotic psoriasis, hypertrophic lichen planus.

Also in the section of the instructions Indications for use, Abistan is recommended:

  • in case of pemphigoid localization of scar areas (pemphigoid is a disease that is accompanied by vesicular blisters);
  • keloid scars (when the scar begins to grow after surgery);
  • pretibial myxedema (manifests itself as a goiter and appears with increased thyroid function. It is popularly called "Graves' disease");
  • to suppress the inflammatory reaction after cryotherapy (cryotherapy is used for skin diseases, and liquid nitrogen is used during the procedure).

The cream is applied locally, directly to the affected area.

Release form

Abistan is available in cream form. It is white and has a soft consistency. Due to its creamy texture, the product is easy to apply to the affected area or wound. Abistan in cream form is not absorbed very quickly, but it penetrates the skin well, evenly distributing medicinal substances to the affected area. The cream is intended for external use only.

Pharmacodynamics

What are the biochemical and physiological effects of abistan?

The pharmacodynamics of abistan cream is that clobetasol propionate is used locally. It penetrates the cell membrane and binds to glucocorticoid receptors. In connective, lymphoid, muscle and adipose tissue, abistan has a powerful anti-catabolic effect. As for clobetasol, it has an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and immunosuppressive effect. When used, swelling, hyperemia, and itching on the skin are significantly reduced. Gentamicin sulfate (an antibiotic contained in the drug) has a pronounced bactericidal effect on many microorganisms.

Pharmacokinetics

What is the chemical and biological process in the body when using a drug such as abistan? Pharmacokinetics is as follows: when applied to the surface of intact skin, clobetasol propionate is adsorbed no more than 5%. If there is a small inflammatory process on the skin, this increases the penetration of clobetasol into the body, but not by a large part.

Gentamicin is poorly absorbed. It has the property of binding to plasma proteins (up to 10%), and its half-life lasts from 2 to 4 hours. The drug is not metabolized and is excreted from the body mainly with urine.

Also, the pharmacokinetics of Abistan cream is that when the product is applied to the skin, miconazole is almost not absorbed and does not enter the systemic bloodstream.

Dosing and administration

Since abistan is an external use product, the method of application and dosage are quite simple. The cream is applied 1 or 2 times a day. Abistan should be applied in a very thin layer to the skin. If you have hypertrophic lichen, keloid scar, pretibial myxedema, then the drug can be applied in the form of an application, or under an occlusive (hermetic) bandage 1 time per day. If you have resorted to cryotherapy and want to prevent an inflammatory reaction, then abistan is applied 2 times a day for 3-4 days. And, in general, the doctor specifies the treatment period, focusing on the individual case. If the product does not give the desired effect within 2-4 weeks, you need to consult a doctor and clarify the diagnosis. Perhaps, the treatment should be adjusted.

Use Abistan during pregnancy

The use of abistan during pregnancy is absolutely safe. Also, if a woman is breastfeeding, the drug can be used. It does not cause any harm and has no contraindications. After all, it is very important when carrying a fetus, not to affect it with harmful medical drugs.

But it is better to consult a doctor. Since each organism is individual. This is especially true if the treatment needs to be carried out on the skin of the face.

Contraindications

The main contraindications to the use of Abistan are:

- if the body has increased sensitivity to clobetasol propionate, gentamicin sulfate, and miconazole nitrate. Clobetasol propionate is a hormonal corticosteroid substance. Gentamicin sulfate is an antibiotic and has a very broad spectrum of action. But miconazole nitrate is an element that has antifungal and anti-inflammatory action.

Also contraindications to the use of abistan include - tuberculosis of the skin, syphilitic skin lesions, skin reactions after vaccination. In case of skin cancer, this drug is especially contraindicated.

It is not recommended to apply the drug if there is acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis and genital itching on the skin. If the skin is affected by the herpes simplex virus or chickenpox, as well as in the presence of fungus or bacterial skin infections.

This drug should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindications are for children under 12 years of age.

Side effects Abistan

The drug should not be used for a long time. Side effects of abistan are that this drug can cause skin atrophy, the formation of striae (stretch marks), telangiectasias, rashes, and itching of the skin. It is especially necessary to apply abistan carefully on the skin of the face and on the folds of the limbs. If you are treating psoriasis or eczema, then it should be taken into account that when applying abistan to the face, atrophic changes in the skin will be more pronounced than, for example, on other areas of the skin. To prevent relapse in psoriasis, careful monitoring by a doctor is required. You should also avoid getting abistan in your eyes. And if the drug is prescribed to children, then the doctor should conduct a dermatological examination every week.

Overdose

Studies have shown that if Abistan is applied locally, there is no overdose of the drug. However, if Abistan is used on a large area of the body, it can lead to absorption of the corticosteroid and cause a phenomenon known as hypercorticism. These reactions can occur with prolonged use. Corticosteroids are hormones that provide an anti-inflammatory effect. They are produced in small quantities in the adrenal cortex. As for hypercorticism syndrome, this disease occurs with regular exposure of the body to large amounts of hormonal agents.

Storage conditions

Considering the storage conditions of Abistan, it is best to store the cream at a temperature of up to +25°C. The place should be dry, the ointment should not be exposed to sunlight. If the drug is overheated, it will spoil. Try to store the medicine in the original packaging. Since when squeezing the medicine into a flask (or jar) not intended for storing medical substances, the ointment quickly loses its medicinal properties. Special care should be taken with children. Abistan should be kept in places inaccessible to children. For example, on a shelf that is located high or, preferably, out of sight.
