Abitor is a drug that helps reduce cholesterol levels. And, as is known, cholesterol is deposited in the vascular system of the brain and heart, which complicates life. Abitor reduces cholesterol levels in the blood, which means it helps avoid heart attacks, strokes and hypertension, which are caused by high cholesterol levels. Let's take a closer look at the features of Abitor, how to use it and existing contraindications.

Indications Abitor

Indications for the use of Abitor include the use of the drug to reduce elevated levels of cholesterol and apolipoprotein.

Indications for use of Abitor:

  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • Heterozygous hyperlipidemia

Abitor is prescribed to patients who have a high risk of developing a stroke or myocardial infarction, which can lead to cerebrovascular accidents. It is very important to monitor kidney and liver function indicators and regularly conduct urine and stool tests before starting to take Abitor.

Abitor, like other drugs, inhibitors can cause myopathy, which manifests itself as muscle pain, weakness, and elevated body temperature. In rare cases, during the administration of Abitor, patients experience an increase in creatine phosphokinase levels. The entire period of use of Abitor should be under the supervision of the attending physician. In case of symptoms of myopathy, the use of the drug must be stopped. During the administration of Abitor, patients are prescribed a strict hypocholesterolemic diet, which improves the absorption of the drug by the body and increases its preventive functions.

Release form

Release form of Abitor tablets:

  • round, biconvex, film-coated tablets of grey colour with a heart-shaped embossing on one side and smooth on the other (10 mg);
  • round, biconvex, film-coated tablets of light orange color, smooth on both sides (20 mg).

1 tablet of abitor is coated with a film containing atorvastatin calcium, equivalent to 10 and 20 mg. Calcium carbonate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, iron oxide (black, red, yellow) and other substances are used as auxiliary substances.

Pharmacodynamics

The pharmacodynamics of the abitor is an interaction of many drugs. Thus, the pharmacodynamics of the abitor is represented by atorvastatin calcium, which is a synthetic, hypolipidemic agent. In other words, it is an enzyme that allows you to suppress the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. Suppression of cholesterol in the liver helps to reduce the intracellular amount of cholesterol. And this, in turn, leads to an increase in the capture of cholesterol from the blood and the restoration of intracellular cholesterol homeostasis.

Atorvastatin works to lower blood cholesterol levels, especially in patients with heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia and non-familial forms of hypercholesterolemia. The pharmacodynamics of the atorvastatin is responsible for lowering blood cholesterol levels due to atorvastatin, lowering triglyceride levels and increasing apolipoprotein A levels.

Pharmacokinetics

The pharmacokinetics of Abitor is based on the effective work of all components that are part of the drug. The main active substance of Abitor is atorvastatin, which has increased absorption into the blood and is maximally concentrated in plasma 1-2 hours after administration.

The use of food, simultaneously with the use of the drug significantly reduces the absorption of the latter from 9 to 25%. If the drug is taken at night, its pharmacokinetics are lower, compared to taking the drug in the morning and on an empty stomach. Atorvastatin is 98% bound to blood plasma proteins. The highest therapeutic effect during the use of atorvastatin is noted after 14 days of continuous use of the drug.
