Liniment Vishnevsky (unofficial name - Vishnevsky ointment, official name - Balsamic liniment according to Vishnevsky) refers to external antiseptic and disinfectants.
Release form
Product: liniment in dark glass jars of 25, 40, 50 or 100 g, in tubes of 30, 35 or 40 g.
Pharmacodynamics
The active substances are xerobes and birch tar; an auxiliary substance - castor oil or fish oil (provides a deeper penetration into the epidermis of the active ingredients).
Anti-microbial, astringent and drying effect on the foci of intra- and dermal inflammation is exerted by xerobes - a derivative of carbolic acid (phenol) and bismuth (heavy metal) in the form of bismuth tribromophenolate salt and bismuth oxide. The bactericidal effect of xeroform is related to the ability of bismuth tribromophenolate to oxidize the sulfhydryl groups of bacterial enzymes, which leads to their death. And the phenol that enters into the composition of the xerogen forms denatured proteins of the cell wall of bacteria and breaks the structure of their cells.
In addition, when the xeroform interacts with the proteins of the affected tissues, they partially coagulate with the formation of albumin, which turns into a protective film, causing a slight anesthesia of the affected area of the skin, drying the wound surface and reducing the permeability of blood vessels (haemostatic effect).
Tar birch, obtained by dry distillation of birch bark (the outer part of birch bark), also contains phenol - an active antiseptic. The irritating effect of tar on the skin receptors promotes the inflow of blood to the inflammatory focus, acceleration of resorption of infiltrates and the withdrawal of serous and purulent exudate. All this stimulates the process of regeneration of damaged tissues.
Dosing and administration
The product is intended for external use only. Liniment should be applied a thin layer on the skin of affected areas - twice a day - under a fixed bandage. Wounds can be covered with a sterile napkin, soaked in ointment, and fixed with a multilayer bandage.

Use of the ointments Vishnevsky during pregnancy
Since the safety of Vishnevsky's ointment during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been studied, it should only be prescribed taking into account the ratio of benefit to woman / risk to fetus (child).
Contraindications
Among the contraindications to the use of Vishnevsky ointment are: individual intolerance to the drug, increased sensitivity to its components, a large area of the affected skin surface, as well as suppurated sebaceous cysts (atheromas), fatty tumors (lipomas) and purulent inflammation of the surrounding tissues (paraproctitis). It is not recommended for use in the presence of kidney failure.
Side effects of the ointments Vishnevsky
Side effects of liniment itching of the skin, rashes, urticaria, swelling of the tissues - can be manifested only with prolonged use of liniment.
Since birch tar increases the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation, the use of Vishnevsky liniment on open areas of the body during the spring-summer period is not allowed.
