Indications Sodium iodide
Iodide Sodium is assigned:
- with excessive production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland;
- with an increase in the thyroid gland;
- as a preventive agent with a high radioactive background;
- before surgical interventions for intoxication with thyroid hormones;
- for diseases of the respiratory tract, including bronchial asthma;
- inflammatory diseases of the eyes;
- as an auxiliary treatment for syphilis.
Pharmacokinetics
Sodium iodide has antiseptic properties, participates in the enzymatic breakdown of proteins, stimulates sputum production at the reflex level. With an increased radioactive background, taking the drug can save the thyroid gland from the harmful effects of radiation and prevent accumulation of radioactive iodine.
The half-life is approximately 10 minutes. It accumulates mainly in the thyroid gland, is excreted by the kidneys and with feces within 24 hours (the parameters can vary depending on the age, sex of the patient, and also the functional state of the thyroid gland).

With intravenous administration the drug is administered once every few days, the course of treatment - 8-12 injections.
Use Sodium iodide during pregnancy
Sodium iodide is not used to treat pregnant women.
Overdose
Sodium iodide in high doses can provoke tachycardia, increased photosensitivity, fever, sleep disorder, irritability.
If symptoms of an overdose should stop taking the drug and consult a specialist, it is also necessary to completely exclude the use of salicylates (sialdgin, ascofen, tsitramon, cefekon, etc.).
