The drug Gaspospase refers to synthetic blockers of acetylcholine receptors and is a means of auxiliary treatment of pain syndrome. ATX Code - A03A A31. The manufacturer is Kusum Healthcare Pvt Ltd (India).
Indications Gaspospase
The drug Gaspospazam is used as a symptomatic agent for spasms of smooth muscles and flatulence that accompany such gastrointestinal diseases as colitis, intestinal colic, irritable bowel syndrome, spastic constipation.
As an additional symptomatic remedy Gas-spasm can also be prescribed for diverticulitis, enteritis, gastritis and peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.
Release form
The preparation Gazospazam is issued in the form of tablets of the oval form covered with a cover, and also in the form of a suspension - in bottles of 30 and 60 ml with a measuring spoon.
Pharmacodynamics
Active active substances of this drug - simethicone (in one tablet - 125 mg) and dicyclomine hydrochloride (in one tablet -20 mg). The simethicone is a silicone compound of the dimethylpolysiloxane group. Possessing the properties of a defoamer, simethicone alters the surface tension of gas bubbles formed in the intestine and promotes their destruction. In addition, simethicone hampers the process of gas formation itself.
Dicyclomine hydrochloride is an organic derivative of ammonia-a disubstituted glycolic acid ester (tertiary amine). It acts on the m-cholinergic receptors of the central nervous system and muscarinic receptors of muscle cells that carry neurotransmitters through heterotrimeric membrane proteins. Due to the fact that the transmission of these signals is blocked, spasms of smooth muscles and spasms of the muscle tissues of the internal organs, including the intestine and bladder, cease. Thus, the muscles relax, which leads to the cessation of spasmodic pains.
Pharmacokinetics
Simethicone, being a physiologically and chemically inert substance, in the body is not absorbed and after passing through the gastrointestinal tract is excreted unchanged.
Dicyclomine hydrochloride is rapidly distributed in tissues, almost completely binds to blood plasma proteins, reaching a maximum concentration 1-1.5 hours after taking Gaspospase; the concentration of dicyclomine hydrochloride in plasma (after taking one tablet) is maintained for 24 hours.
The half-life of the drug from the body, during which its concentration is reduced by half, is about two hours. Almost 80% of the gaspase is excreted from the body with urine, the rest - through the large intestine.
Dosing and administration
Gaspazam in tablet form is taken by adults and children over 12 years of age by one tablet 2-3 times a day - 20 minutes before meals.
Dosage of the drug in the form of suspension: for adults and children over 12 years - 5-10 ml no more than 4 times during the day (before or after eating). The maximum daily dose is 40 ml. Duration of admission - no more than five days.
