Fish oil is a substance that helps regulate metabolic processes.
When taking a drug that contains fatty ω-3-polyunsaturated acids, there is a decrease in the values of cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL and LDL, and in addition, an increase in the vasodilating effect (in comparison with vasoconstrictor), an increase in the elasticity of blood cell walls and a decrease in chemotaxis activity with platelets, which reduces blood viscosity and the likelihood of blood clots. [1]
The properties described above lead to an improvement in microcirculation (especially inside the vessels that are affected by atherosclerosis). [2]
Indications Fish fat
It is used for therapy for such diseases:
- a- and hypovitaminosis type A;
- eye pathologies ( xerophthalmia , keratomalacia, pigmented retinitis and hemeralopia);
- general treatment of lesions of the mucous membranes and epidermis, malnutrition with rickets , acute respiratory infections (and chronic forms), erosions and inflammations in the area of the urethra and digestive tract;
- increasing the rate of bone fracture healing and wound regeneration;
- prevention of thrombosis and atherosclerosis;
- restoration of normal coagulation processes after thrombosis.
Release form
The release of drugs is realized in the form of a liquid for oral administration - in vials or cans with a volume of 50 or 100 ml; inside the box - 1 such jar or bottle.
Fortified fish oil
Fortified fish oil is produced in capsules - 10 pieces inside a cell pack; inside the box - 5 such packs.
Pharmacodynamics
The medication contains vitamins such as ergocalciferol and retinol, as well as DHA with EPA and eicosatetraenoic acid.
Fatty Ω-3-polyunsaturated acids (DHA with EPA), contained in large quantities inside the fat of cod liver, demonstrate the following biological effects: DHA is required for the healthy development of the NA, the eye retina and the brain of the child; At the same time, EPA acts as a precursor of eicosanoids - bioactive molecules, including leukotrienes, PGs, thromboxane and prostacyclins.
Eicosanoids, which are derivatives of saturated arachidonic acid, differ significantly in their biological properties from eicosanoids, which are EPA derivatives. For example, on the basis of arachidonic acid, thromboxane is formed, which has a strong vasoconstrictor effect, and this effect is almost not manifested in a substance formed from EPA.
PGs, which are derivatives of arachidonic acid, have a higher activity than PG-derivatives of EPA. This is associated with the weakening of the activity of the nonspecific inflammatory response in the case of the use of a sufficient volume of essential fatty ω-3-polyunsaturated acids.
Fatty Ω-3-polyunsaturated acids are precursors of certain enzymes; they alter the physical characteristics of the cell walls. When entering the structure of phospholipids, they become direct participants in the synthesis of protein molecules with cell walls, as well as gene transcription.
Dosing and administration
The serving sizes of Fish Oil are selected by the doctor personally. Adults are often prescribed the use of 1 tablespoon of the substance orally (2-3 times a day).
For infants over 1 month of age, use 3-5 drops of drugs 2 times a day, with a gradual increase in dosage to 0.5-1 teaspoon per day (2.5-5 ml). A child under 12 months of age is injected with 1 teaspoon per day (5 ml); persons under 6 years old - 1 teaspoon 2 times a day; children over 7 years old - 1 teaspoon 3 times a day.
It is required to use the medication for 2-3 month courses. Upon their completion, it is necessary to track the characteristics of the blood clotting system and, taking into account the result, to continue the therapeutic cycle (after consulting with the doctor).
- Application for children
Fish oil can be used in pediatrics, but the recommended dosages must be followed when prescribing it.
Use Fish fat during pregnancy
In connection with the antithrombotic activity of the drug, during pregnancy it is used only for medical purposes and after a careful assessment of the benefits and risks.
With hepatitis B, the medication can be prescribed after consulting a doctor.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- severe intolerance associated with the elements of the drug;
- hypercalciuria;
- having an idiopathic form of hypercalcemia;
- pulmonary tuberculosis in the active stage;
- chronic or active liver / kidney disease;
- sarcoidosis;
- nephrourolithiasis;
- chronic pancreatitis;
- hypervitaminosis, subtype D;
- cholecystitis;
- prolonged state of immobility of the patient;

- active form of pancreatitis.
Side effects Fish fat
The main side effects:
- immune disorders: signs of allergies;
- lesions of the vascular system: bleeding from the nose, as well as potentiation of bleeding from abrasions or wounds;
- digestive problems: mild gastric disturbances, which can be reduced by lowering the dosage; in addition, exacerbation of pancreatitis or cholecystitis, which have a chronic form, as well as diarrhea. Prolonged administration of large portions of drugs can lead to the fact that the patient's exhaled air will have a faint fishy odor.
If any negative symptoms appear, you need to stop taking the medication and consult a doctor.
Overdose
Prolonged use of the medication can lead to lethargy, drowsiness, vomiting, headaches, nausea, bone demineralization, pain in the leg bones, hyperhidrosis, epidermal rash, and fever.
Symptomatic actions are performed; in addition, you need to stop taking Fish Oil and limit the intake of Ca with food into the body.
Interactions with other drugs
The introduction of drugs with other substances, which contain retinol and calciferol, can lead to the appearance of hypervitaminosis.
Extremely cautious Fish oil is injected together with medicines that change blood coagulation.
Development of interaction with aspirin or other NSAIDs is possible. Symptoms include hematuria, nosebleeds, and melena. Hemoptysis and bloody vomiting occur occasionally. In such situations, taking the medication should be canceled immediately.
The effect of calciferol can be weakened when combined with barbiturates or anticonvulsants.
Combined use with estrogens increases the likelihood of type A hypervitaminosis.
Retinol weakens the anti-inflammatory activity of GCS.
Storage conditions
Store fish oil out of the reach of small children. Temperature values - no more than 25оС.
Shelf life
Fish oil can be used within an 18-month term from the date of marketing of the pharmaceutical product.
