Vizine contains the active ingredient tetrizoline, which is an α-adrenostimulant. Its influence provides a vasoconstrictor effect, which helps to weaken the swelling in the conjunctival area. The α-adrenostimulating effect of tetrizoline leads to dilation of the eye pupil and a decrease in the volume of intraocular fluid produced.
After the instillation procedure, the therapeutic effect develops after a few minutes. The duration of the effect is within 4-8 hours. [1]
Indications Vizin
It is used in the case of puffiness, hyperemia and lacrimation, appearing due to the influence exerted on the conjunctiva by physical or chemical agents (light, smoke, chlorinated liquid, dust, cosmetic substances and contact lenses).
It is also prescribed for people with conjunctivitis of an allergic origin.
Release form
The release of the medication is realized in the form of eye drops, in vials with a capacity of 15 ml. The content of tetrizoline in the 1st bottle is 0.05%.
Pharmacodynamics
Tetrizoline is a sympathomimetic belonging to the subgroup of imidazoline decongestants. The substance has direct stimulation relative to the α-adrenergic receptors of the sympathetic NS; at the same time, in relation to β-adrenergic receptors, the effect either does not develop at all, or is very weak.
After local application to the conjunctival mucosa, the drug causes a temporary vasoconstrictor effect on relatively small blood vessels, weakening vasodilation and conjunctival edema.
Pharmacokinetics
Testing, which involved 10 volunteers, revealed that with therapeutic ocular use of drugs, tetrizolin is found inside urine and blood serum.
The term serum half-life of an element is approximately 6 hours.
The total absorption in the volunteers fluctuated, with serum Cmax values in the range of 0.068-0.380 ng / ml.
After 24 hours, tetrizoline was noted in the urine of all study participants.
Dosing and administration
It is required to turn the bottle with drops, and then drop 1-2 drops inside the conjunctival sac. During the period of the day, this procedure is allowed to be repeated 2-3 times. Remove contact lenses before instillation.
It is forbidden to use the medicine for more than 4 days in a row.
- Application for children
The medication is not prescribed in pediatrics, to persons under 2 years of age.
Use Vizin during pregnancy
There is a likelihood of negative symptoms when using Vizin in pregnant women. Because of this, it is prescribed only when the likelihood of the benefits of using the drops is higher than the possible risks.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- angle-closure glaucoma;
- severe intolerance to the medication;
- dystrophy affecting the cornea.
- Use with great caution in people with coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, pheochromocytoma and thyrotoxicosis, as well as in diabetics.
