Mezim Forte is a polyenzyme drug.

The release of the pharmaceutical substance is produced in tablets - 10 or 20 pieces inside the cellular packaging.

Pharmacodynamics

Pancreatin (powder extracted from the pancreas) includes pancreatic excretory enzymes - amylase with lipase, and in addition, chymotrypsin with trypsin. They are involved in the process of digesting carbohydrates with fats, as well as proteins.

This powder does not undergo absorption inside the gastrointestinal tract, it is excreted with faeces, and the main part of the substance undergoes denaturation and splitting inside the digestive tract under the influence of bacteria with digestive juices. The main factor of performance is the enzyme activity of lipase, and with it the activity of trypsin. In this case, the amylolytic effect is significant only during the treatment of cystic fibrosis, because even in the case of a chronic variety of pancreatitis, the processes of splitting food polysaccharides proceed without frustration.

Tablet shell does not have an enteric ability. When the gastric pH is less than 4, inactivation of lipolytic activity is performed.

Dosing and administration

The drug must be taken in a dosage of 1-2 tablets, along with food. Tablets do not chew, washed down with plain water (1 cup is enough). Taking into account the type of food used, you can additionally take another 2-4 tablets of medicine.

The size of the portion of Mezim forte may vary, picking up personally.

The duration of the therapeutic cycle is selected by the attending doctor, each patient individually.

Use Mezima forte during pregnancy

Use of the drug during breastfeeding or pregnancy is allowed only when the doctor assesses the benefits of it as more likely than the risk of complications in the fetus or infant.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

• the presence of intolerance against the powder from the porcine pancreas (or intolerance to pork), component E 122 or one of the elements of the drug;
• Acute stage of pancreatitis or exacerbation of the chronic form of this disease;
• intestinal obstruction, having an obstructive character.

Side effects Mezima forte

Among the adverse events:

• immune disorders: signs of intolerance, including sneezing, rashes, spasms of the bronchi and lacrimation, and besides skin hyperemia, feeling of weakness or heat, urticaria, itching, angioedema and tachycardia;
• digestive disorders: abdominal discomfort, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea and intestinal blockage;
• Other symptoms: due to the content of component E 122, patients may experience allergies.

Overdose

In case of poisoning with a drug, the patient may develop hyperuricuria or hyperuricemia.

When these disorders occur, symptomatic interventions are performed.

Interactions with other drugs

The introduction of drugs, including powder obtained from the pancreas, can provoke a weakening of the absorption of B9-vitamin, which sometimes requires its additional intake.

The influence of hypoglycemic substances used inside (for example, miglitol or acarbose) can be weakened when combined with Mezim forte.

Mezim Forte can be used for a 3-year term from the time the pharmaceutical substance is manufactured.
