Indications Mesoderm
It is used in the case of development of dermatoses that are sensitive to GCS (including psoriasis ), or in the initial phases of treatment in people with atopic eczema.
Pharmacodynamics
Betamethasole is the active ingredient of the drug; it is an artificial GCS. It exhibits antiallergic, as well as anti-inflammatory and antipruritic activity.
After treating the epidermis with the cream, local vasoconstriction occurs, itching disappears, and the release of inflammatory conductors is suppressed. In addition, the activity of the enzyme hyaluronidase slows down and the strength of vascular membranes is strengthened.
Because the product is made on a cream basis, it also has a moisturizing and softening effect on the epidermis.
Pharmacokinetics
Betamethasone is a fluorinated GCS agent, due to which it is very limitedly absorbed into the systemic bloodstream through the epidermis. The intensity of absorption can increase significantly in case of inflammation or damage to the epidermis, when its protective functions are impaired.
Dosing and administration
Mesoderm cream should only be used externally – for local treatment.
The medicine is applied in a thin layer, with light rubbing movements - it is necessary for the cream to cover the entire affected area. This procedure must be repeated 2-3 times a day until symptoms of improvement appear. After this, the medicine should be used only once a day. You can also alternate the use of the cream with another drug that has a different active component (apply them every other day).
It is not recommended to use the preparation for more than 3 months (or to treat too large areas of the epidermis - more than 20% of the body area). If the size of the area treated with the cream exceeds 10% of the entire epidermis, Mesoderm can be used for a maximum of 7 days. Do not cover the areas treated with the substance with plaster or bandages.
After the symptoms of the disease have weakened, it is necessary to replace the medication with another corticosteroid with a less pronounced therapeutic intensity.
The duration of therapy and the size of dosage portions are selected by the doctor individually for each patient. Often the medication is used for a maximum of 21 days.
Use Mesoderm during pregnancy
There is no information regarding the safety of using the cream during pregnancy (especially in the 1st trimester), and in addition, whether the drug can be excreted in breast milk. Because of this, Mesoderm is contraindicated in the 1st trimester. However, in later stages of pregnancy, the medication can be used if the patient's condition is extremely severe.
If it is necessary to use the cream during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued for the duration of therapy.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- the presence of intolerance associated with the action of one or more elements of the drug;
- viral infections, including diseases caused by vaccination;
- epidermal pathologies of viral origin (herpes or chickenpox, as well as shingles);
- rosacea;
- dermatitis appearing on the face;
- dermatoses of bacterial origin, including epidermal lesions caused by syphilis or tuberculosis;
- lesions caused by fungal activity;
- the presence of ulcerative lesions or erosions on the skin;
- frostbite or burns;
- acne;
- rashes or other epidermal lesions located near the eyes - the medication cannot be used to treat ophthalmological disorders.
It is prohibited to cover the areas treated with the cream with plaster or sealed bandages, as well as to apply the substance to too large areas of skin.
Side effects Mesoderm
In people with severe hypersensitivity, the cream may provoke intolerance symptoms. In addition, there is a risk of suppressive effects on the adrenal cortex.
The most common side effects (epidermis and subcutaneous layer) are folliculitis, acne, hypertrichosis, burning sensation, dryness, irritation, itching and redness. In addition, there are also rashes (e.g. similar in appearance to acne), striae, hypopigmentation, atrophy of individual areas of the epidermis, dermatitis or secondary infection (especially when applied under a plaster cast or bandage), telangiectasia and maceration of the epidermis.
Overdose
When applying an excessive amount of cream to the epidermis or when using it for a long time, a systemic effect may develop. In this case, suppression of pituitary-adrenal activity is observed and secondary adrenal insufficiency occurs. Acute manifestations of hypercorticism (often curable) may also develop, including cushingoid.
In such situations, symptomatic procedures should be carried out. In case of long-term use of the drug, gradual withdrawal is recommended.
Shelf life
Mesoderm can be used for a period of 5 years from the date of manufacture of the pharmaceutical product.

Application for children
There is only limited information regarding the safety of the drug in pediatrics. Given that a child has a smaller total body surface area and a thinner epidermal layer than an adult, there is a high risk of the active element of the cream affecting the adrenal glands and pituitary gland. In this regard, the drug is not used in children.

Analogues of the drug are Beloderm, Methizolon, Soderm with Betazone, Advantan, Betamethasone with Cutivate, and also Betliben, Sterocort and Celestoderm-V.
