Gelusil-lac - a medicine used to eliminate acid-related pathologies.
Pharmacodynamics
Gelusil-lac has adsorptive, antacid, and also enveloping properties. The active element is magnesium aluminum hydrate hydrate, which neutralizes the increased volumes of hydrochloric acid, and together with it forms a thin protective film on the surface of the gastrointestinal mucosa.
It helps to establish physiological balance inside the stomach, and besides it prevents reactive production of hydrochloric acid.
The drug does not affect the mobility of the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore does not lead to the development of diarrhea or constipation. Act quickly, and the effect persists for a long time.
Pharmacokinetics
Multivalent aluminum and magnesium ions are almost not absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract, excreted through the kidneys in the form of oxides or carbonates of insoluble nature.
Large portions of the drug do not increase the values of aluminum with magnesium inside the blood plasma, although this increases the excretion of these components along with the urine.
Dosing and administration
The drug should be taken in a dosage of 3-6 tablets per day. It is required to chew or dissolve on the 1st pill after 1-2 hours after eating. Do not dissolve them in water or other beverages.
Use of the gelusil-varnish during pregnancy
Since the active element of the drug has a low level of absorption inside the digestive tract, it does not have a teratogenic effect. This allows you to carefully prescribe Gelusil-lacquer to pregnant or lactating mothers.
Contraindications
The main contraindications:
- the presence of intolerance in relation to the medicament and its constituent elements;
- disorders of renal activity to a significant extent.
Side effects of the gelusil-varnish

Overdose
Due to the weak absorption of the drug, the likelihood of developing intoxication is rather low. But in case of increasing dosage or prolonged therapy, hypophosphaturia or hypophosphatemia may occur.

Interactions with other drugs
Use together with allopurinol can reduce its medicinal activity (the level of uric acid inside urine increases).
In addition, the combination of Gelusil-lac with such agents as diclofenac, iron drugs, metronidazole with ketoconazole, as well as tetracycline with ciprofloxacin, inhibits their resorption. That is why it is required to observe the interval between the use of these medicines, which is at least 2 hours.
