Pharmacodynamics

Helmintox is an anthelmintic medication that provokes neuromuscular blocking in helminths, as well as spastic muscle paralysis. Further, these helminths are excreted from the body with faeces by intestinal peristalsis.

The drug effectively acts on both immature and mature helminths of both biological sexes: on ascarids with pinworms, as well as hookworms. The medicine does not have an exciting effect, therefore it does not cause migration of parasites. Does not affect migratory larvae of parasites.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is not practically absorbed from the digestive tract. Peak indices inside the blood are noted during 1-3 hours.

Part of the active substance undergoes the process of hepatic metabolism. Approximately 93% of LS is excreted by the intestine, and the remaining 7% of the substance is excreted through the kidneys.

Dosing and administration

Use of tablets.

Tablets are used orally, at any time of the day. Can not be taken on an empty stomach. Concomitant administration of laxatives is not required.

To eliminate enterobiosis or ascariasis - the size of a child's dose: 1 tablet with a volume of 125 mg / 10 kg. For adults weighing less than 75 kg, a dose of 3 tablets with a volume of 0.25 g is required. People with higher weight values should take 4 tablets with a volume of 0.25 g.

Use of a drug suspension.

Before use, shake the suspension vial thoroughly. Inside 1 ml of LS contains 50 mg of the active ingredient, and in the 1st measuring spoon, 125 mg of the substance.

During therapy with ascariasis or enterobiosis, the size of the child's dosage is a single dose of 1 spoon / 10 kg. An adult with a weight below 75 kg is required to consume 6 spoonfuls of medicinal product, and to persons with a weight exceeding 75 kg, 8 spoonfuls per 1 reception. After 3 weeks of therapy, you should repeat the use of drugs in similar portions - in order to prevent the new infection.

The course of treatment for ankylostomiasis lasts 3 days. The size of a child's dose is 0.25 mg / 10 kg. For adults with weight values exceeding 75 kg, the daily portion is 2 g.

During the de-worming period, it is required to clean the room thoroughly and wash the children's toys in the house. In addition, every day you need to change your underwear and iron the bed. Therapy should be conducted for each of the family members. To prevent re-invasion, you need to change your clothes every day, wash your hands thoroughly and avoid scratching the areas of your skin in your crotch. After the end of the course, a control test of feces is performed.

Use of the helmintox during pregnancy

Pyrantel-containing medications are not recommended for pregnant women. Use Helmintox is only allowed in situations where it is not possible to use a safer alternative for a pregnant woman.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

• the period of breastfeeding;
• the presence of hypersensitivity to the drug;
• myasthenia gravis;
• hepatic pathology or liver failure.

Side effects of the helmintox

Interactions with other drugs

Pirantel increases the value of theophylline inside the blood.

Combined use with sorbents can lead to a weakening of the properties of the active element of the preparation.

It is forbidden to combine medicament with piperazine or levamisole.

Shelf life

Helminthox (both suspension and tablets) can be used for 3 years after the release of the drug.

Application for children

The drug in tablets is allowed to prescribe to children over the age of 6 years.

Suspension is allowed to prescribe to children younger than 6 years of age with a weight of more than 12 kg.

Analogues of the drug are Pirantel preparations, as well as Nemocide (both drugs are in suspension and tablets).

Helmintox is the medicine of choice during treatment of enterobiasis with ascariasis (together with Pirantel). Helminthiases are a fairly common disease, which mainly develops in children, so this drug is used quite often. Clinical tests of its efficacy showed very high rates (94-100%) in the treatment of the above-mentioned infestations. Another advantage of the drug, judging by the many reviews, is its good tolerability in children.

Thanks to the convenient dosage form and a pleasant aftertaste (suspension), it can be given without problems to children without causing a negative reaction. With the above pathologies, a one-time use of drugs is sufficient, so that after it tests for the presence of worms in the child give a negative result. There are some reports of the development of adverse symptoms in the form of weak abdominal pains and diarrhea, as well as minor nausea.

Often the same therapy was conducted without the development of negative reactions - this is due to the fact that Helmintox only immobilizes parasites, and, as is known, when they die, the release of toxic elements that cause the same development of side effects.
