Pharmacodynamics
Zinc oxide is a substance with anti-inflammatory properties and is used topically. It is an amorphous powder with a low level of toxicity. The component contributes to the simulation of protein denaturation, and also helps the formation of albumins. After treatment with this substance affected areas of the skin, the severity of exudative symptoms decreases, and besides this, irritation and inflammation in the tissues disappear. Also zinc oxide forms on the surface of the skin a protective layer that prevents the impact of irritating exogenous factors on it.
The medicine is applied only externally. Since it adsorbs surpluses of sweat and fat from the surface of the skin, it helps to prevent the development of diaper dermatitis in infants, and at the same early stage prevents the development of inflammation.
In addition, the drug forms a protective barrier in the affected areas, which helps to neutralize the negative impact on the skin of salts, urine and other irritants, and at the same time contributes to the softening of the skin.
The therapeutic effect and drug efficacy of the drug are due to the activity of its constituent elements - zinc oxide, as well as fat, taken and cod liver, which are evenly distributed at the fat stage, consisting of white petrolatum with anhydrous lanolin.
Because lanolin and fish oil with petroleum jelly are products having a natural nature, the layer formed on the skin after the treatment with ointment resembles a natural fatigue layer with protective functions.
This film is perfectly retained on the mucous membranes and skin surface, while retaining its properties for several hours. Such an effect is extremely important at night, when the baby's skin is in contact with diapers and wet clothing the longest.
At the same time, Desitin has a moderate astringent effect, due to which it can be used to reduce the degree of severity, as well as to eliminate the inflammatory process that develops with minor damage to the integrity of the skin (cuts or scratches) and burns. A similar effect is also observed when using drugs to eliminate signs of eczema.
Dosing and administration
In the treatment of diaper dermatitis in infants, the course should be started after the appearance of such manifestations as irritation, rashes and intertrigo on the skin surface. Affected areas are treated with ointment three times a day. If necessary, the number of processing procedures can be increased.
Before the procedure begins, prepare the skin - wash it using warm water, and then carefully dry it. Use the drug is usually recommended during the change of diaper or diaper. For a day it is recommended to treat the affected area within 4-6 times.
Usually, to eliminate the diaper form of dermatitis it takes 2-3 days, after which the medicine can be used as a prophylaxis. In this case, the ointment is applied to areas that are then covered with diapers / diapers, and which potentially will be in contact with feces and urine.
To apply the ointment for prophylaxis is most expedient in the evening, before going to bed, and besides this, when it is assumed that the baby will have to stay for a long time dressed (for example, when traveling to a polyclinic or walking / hiking after shopping).
To prevent the development of diaper dasg, a medicine can be used for a long time. It is also acceptable to treat ointment of healthy skin areas with ointment.
A similar method is used in the treatment of diathesis, rash allergic and other nature, as well as atopic dermatitis in infants, and in addition to eliminating diaper rash in newborns.
People with acne should be treated with ointment 1-2 times / day (for example, in the morning and then in the evening), for 7-14 days. During the day, it is necessary to cleanse the skin surface of the residual ointment to allow it to breathe for at least 60 minutes (the best option is to spend this time on the street).
If a patient has only single pimples, they need to be treated point-by-point, before bed. Applying the ointment without interruption is allowed during the first month.
To remove burns and wounds, it is necessary to treat the affected area with a thin layer of medicinal substance, and then, if necessary, close it with a bandage or a sterile gauze cloth.
It must be remembered that the medicine is allowed to be used solely to eliminate superficial injuries of an uninfected nature. If there is an infection in the affected area, it is forbidden to use the ointment.

Reviews
Desitin, for the most part, receives positive feedback from patients, because it demonstrates a pronounced medicinal effect almost immediately after application.
The use of ointment contributes to the rapid elimination of rash, acne and acne, accelerate the processes of remission with atopic dermatitis, and besides this regenerating processes for burns and skin surface lesions. Also, the ointment completely removes or reduces the signs of inflammation. It is these properties that are noted by the patients who used Desitin.
Along with this, the forums often write about the positive effects of the drug in the treatment of newborns. Most mothers of infants write that the medicine copes with redness, intertrigo and rashes, when other medicines did not have the desired effect.
At the same time, the advantages of drugs are noted:
- the possibility of applying over an extended period of time;
- efficiency in eliminating negative symptoms even at high air temperatures;
- the possibility of using people with extremely sensitive skin.
There are, of course, and negative feedback, but mostly they say only about not too pleasant smell of ointment. Also, in some people, the use of the drug led to increased skin dryness, although this is only noted singly and is mainly due to strong individual intolerance to the drug.
