Indications of the calcium lactate
Applicable in the following cases:
- with hypoparathyroidism, as well as hypocalcemia (also in the case of prolonged immobilization or prolonged dehydration);
- at illnesses of an allergic parentage, and also complications of allergic character owing to medicamental treatment;
- with high vascular permeability against a background of different pathologies (for example, in the exudative stage of inflammation, in radiation sickness or vasculitis having a hemorrhagic origin);
- with liver intoxication or parenchymal form of hepatitis;
- with eclampsia or nephritis;
- with hyperkalemia or periodic familial paralysis of the hyperkalemic type;
- with skin lesions (such as eczema, as well as skin itching or psoriasis);
- with a variety of bleeding;
- as an antidote for the control of intoxication with salts of ethanedioic or hydrofluoric acid or magnesium salts.
Pharmacodynamics
The medicine allows you to get rid of the complete or relative lack of calcium inside the body. Calcium ions are participants in the processes of impulses along the nerves, and in addition to this reduction of smooth, as well as skeletal muscles and myocardium, the function of blood circulation, the formation of bone tissues and other physiological processes, which helps to ensure the stable operation of many systems and organs.
The drug weakens the increased permeability of the vessels and tissues against the background of the disease, exhibits anti-allergic and hemostatic, as well as moderate anti-inflammatory effect.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, the drug is absorbed partially, mainly inside the small intestine. Part of the drug is excreted unchanged. The peak plasma level is observed after 1.2-1.3 hours after the drug has been applied.
Inside tissues with organs, the active substance is distributed fairly evenly. Inside the blood resides in the ionized, as well as the synthesized state. About 50% of total serum calcium is an ionized substance, and another 5% is an integral part of anion complexes. 45% of the drug is synthesized with protein.
The ionized form of calcium shows physiological activity, and its depot is bone tissue. The medicine passes through the placenta and gets inside the mother's milk.
The half-life of the substance from the plasma is 6-7 hours. Approximately 20% of the drug is excreted in the urine, and another 80% - through the intestine.
Dosing and administration
Calcium lactate is taken orally, before eating. It is required to grind or carefully chew the taken pill before swallowing.
For adults, the drug is prescribed in the amount of 1-3 g (taking 2-6 tablets) 2-3 times per day.
Children older than 1 year are required to drink 1-well pill (taking 0.5 g LS) once a day. This tablet is first ground or dissolved in plain water, and in addition fruit juice or milk.
Children aged 2-4 years are required to drink 2 tablets (the dose is 1 g).
Children within 5-6 years of age take 2-3 tablets (a dose of 1-1.5 g).
Children 7-9 years old drink 3-4 tablets (the dosage is 1.5 -2 g).
Adolescents aged 10-14 years - the dose is 2-3 g (4-6 tablets - 2-3 per day).
The therapeutic course is appointed by the doctor, and its duration is usually a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 1 month. If there is a need, the course is allowed to be repeated.
Use of the calcium lactate during pregnancy
It is allowed to apply to pregnant women.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- hypersensitivity to the elements of the medication;
- hypercalcemia, as well as hypercalciuria in a pronounced form;
- presence of thrombosis;
- marked degree of atherosclerosis;
- increased blood circulation;
- renal failure in severe degree.

Side effects of the calcium lactate
Taking drugs can cause some side effects:
- digestive disorders: vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea;
- defeat of SSS organs: development of bradycardia. These symptoms usually disappear on their own;
- disorders of metabolic processes: the development of hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria.
In the case of prolonged use of the drug, constipation may develop, and sometimes there are obstructive processes in the intestinal region that are caused by the formation of calcareous calculi.
Overdose
The main signs of intoxication: the development of dyspepsia. The likelihood of hypercalcemia and other toxic symptoms due to acute poisoning is very low.
In case of an overdose, you must abolish the use of drugs. The above symptoms often disappear after the drug is withdrawn. As an antidote, calcitonin can be used, administered iv in a method of 5.0-10.0 IU / kg / day.
Interactions with other drugs
As a result of combined reception with calcium drugs, the toxic and medicinal properties of cardiac glycosides can be enhanced, and in addition the degree of absorption of tetracyclines and the toxic effect of quinidine increases, and the degree of absorption of bisphosphonates from the digestive tract decreases.
GCS decreases the absorption of calcium.
Combined use of diuretics with diuretics or with calcium-containing drugs potentiates the likelihood of hypercalcemia. And diuretic drugs loop type, on the contrary, increase renal calcium excretion.
Calcium gluconate, combined with calcium blockers, weakens the effectiveness of the latter.
Special instructions
Reviews
Calcium gluconate has quite a few reviews, but they are all positive. The drug is well absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract, and is also tolerated without problems by patients. The development of side effects of the drug is extremely rare.
