Indications of the calcium dobezilate

It is used in such cases:

• when vascular lesions against the background of increased permeability and fragility of capillaries (diseases such as retinopathy of the diabetic type, as well as various forms of microangiopathy);
• with other microangiopathies arising due to pathological metabolic processes and diseases in the area of CCC (such as the steroid form of vasculitis, and bronchial asthma associated with hormones);

Pharmacodynamics

The drug has antiaggregant, as well as protecting the veins and capillaries by exposure.

Reduces increased capillary and arteriolic permeability, increases the elasticity of the walls of blood vessels, as well as erythrocytes, and improves microcirculation, rheological parameters of blood and drainage properties of lymph vessels. Together with this reduces blood viscosity, slightly reduces platelet aggregation and potentiates the effect of platelets (also antioxidant).

The drug is able to reduce the activity of plasma kinin (such as bradykinin and so on) and reduce tissue swelling, and besides it has antihemorrhagic properties.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is subjected to a fairly slow absorption within the gastrointestinal tract. With protein within the plasma is synthesized only by 20-25%. Peak values within the body are noted after a lapse of 5-6 hours. The drug almost does not pass through the BBB.

The half-life is 24 hours. Excretion is mainly through the kidneys during the 24 hours.

Dosing and administration

The drug is taken orally, with or after food. Dosage is 250 mg (the size of the first pill) with a dose three times a day, or 0.5 g (the size of 2 tablets) with a 1-2-time intake per day. This mode lasts for 2-3 weeks, after which the dose of the drug is reduced to 0.5 g for the whole day. This mode of admission lasts at least 3-4 weeks and a maximum of several months (duration depends on the effectiveness of drugs). If necessary, re-courses are allowed.

During treatment of diabetic form of retinopathy, as well as microangiopathy, it is required to drink 1 tablet 2-3 times a day for 4-6 months. The more precise duration of treatment depends on the course of the pathology and the effectiveness of the therapy used.

Interactions with other drugs

Calcium dobezilate potentiates the properties of heparin with indirect anticoagulants, as well as GCS. It also increases the antidiabetic effect of sulfonylurea derivatives. It is forbidden to combine the drug with lithium medicines, as well as methotrexate.

When combined with ticlopidine, it enhances its antiaggregant properties.
