Indications Calcium lactate

It is used in the following cases:

  • in hypoparathyroidism, as well as hypocalcemia (also in case of prolonged immobilization or prolonged dehydration);
  • for diseases of allergic origin, as well as complications of an allergic nature due to drug treatment;
  • with high vascular permeability against the background of various pathologies (for example, at the exudative stage of inflammation, with radiation sickness or vasculitis of hemorrhagic origin);
  • in case of liver intoxication or parenchymatous form of hepatitis;
  • with eclampsia or nephritis;
  • in hyperkalemia or familial periodic paralysis of the hyperkalemic type;
  • for skin lesions (such as eczema, as well as skin itching or psoriasis);
  • for various types of bleeding;
  • as an antidote to combat intoxication with salts of ethanedioic or hydrofluoric acid or magnesium salts.

Pharmacodynamics

The medicine allows to get rid of complete or relative calcium deficiency in the body. Calcium ions are participants in the processes of impulse conduction along the nerves, and in addition to this, the contraction of smooth and skeletal muscles and myocardium, the function of blood clotting, the formation of bone tissue and other physiological processes, which helps to ensure the stable operation of many systems and organs.

The drug reduces the increased permeability of blood vessels and tissues due to the disease, exhibits anti-allergic and hemostatic, as well as moderate anti-inflammatory effects.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, the drug is partially absorbed, mainly in the small intestine. Part of the drug is excreted unchanged. Peak plasma levels are observed after 1.2-1.3 hours after administration of the drug.

The active substance is distributed fairly evenly within tissues and organs. It is in the ionized and synthesized state within the blood. About 50% of total serum calcium is an ionized substance, and another 5% is a component of anion complexes. 45% of the drug is synthesized with protein.

The ionized form of calcium has physiological activity, and its depot is bone tissue. The drug passes through the placenta and gets into the mother's milk.

The half-life of the substance from plasma is 6-7 hours. Approximately 20% of the drug is excreted in the urine, and another 80% through the intestines.

Children aged 2-4 years are required to take 2 tablets (the dose is 1 g).

Children aged 5-6 years take 2-3 tablets (dose 1-1.5 g).

Children aged 7-9 years take 3-4 tablets (dosage is 1.5-2 g).

Adolescents aged 10-14 years – the dose is 2-3 g (4-6 tablets – 2-3 times a day).

Side effects Calcium lactate

Taking medications can cause the development of some side effects:

  • digestive disorders: vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea;
  • damage to the cardiovascular system: development of bradycardia. These symptoms usually disappear on their own;
  • metabolic disorders: development of hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria.

In case of prolonged use of the drug, constipation may develop, and sometimes obstructive processes in the intestinal area are observed, which are caused by the formation of calcium stones.

Overdose

The main signs of intoxication are the development of dyspepsia. The probability of hypercalcemia and other toxic symptoms as a result of acute poisoning is very low.

In case of overdose, discontinue use of the drug. The above symptoms often disappear on their own after discontinuing the drug. Calcitonin can be used as an antidote, administered intravenously at a rate of 5.0-10.0 IU/kg/day.

Interactions with other drugs

As a result of combined administration with calcium drugs, the toxic and medicinal properties of cardiac glycosides may increase, and in addition, the degree of absorption of tetracyclines and the toxic effect of quinidine increases, and the degree of absorption of bisphosphonates from the gastrointestinal tract decreases.

GCS reduce calcium absorption rates.

Combined use with thiazide-type diuretics or calcium-containing drugs potentiates the likelihood of hypercalcemia. Loop-type diuretics, on the contrary, increase renal excretion of calcium.

Calcium gluconate combined with calcium blockers weakens the effectiveness of the latter.
