Calcium is a key chemical element that participates in the biochemical and physiological processes of functioning of a living organism. It is involved in the mechanism of blood clotting, muscle contraction, serves as a vehicle for delivering to the cellular membranes of various substances necessary for the processes occurring in the cell, in particular the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters. The need for this macronutrient at each age is different. The largest - in adolescence (1.3 grams per day), tk. The intensive growth of the skeleton requires more "building material". There is calcium in the body with food: milk, cottage cheese, beans, nuts, vegetables, a lot of it in poppy and sesame. Lack of substance affects the state of health and appearance: irritability, nervousness, fatigue, skin becomes faded, hair dull and brittle, muscle spasms appear, and sometimes their trembling. The most dangerous is the development of rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults. Calcium glycerophosphate is a remedy that eliminates calcium deficiency.

Pharmacodynamics

Calcium glycerophosphate normalizes calcium-phosphorus metabolism, stimulates the process of protein synthesis, replenishes the lack of mineral in the body. Pharmacodynamics of the drug is due to the ability of calcium ions to participate in various metabolic processes, which is necessary to maintain the work of the myocardium of the heart, in the processes of blood clotting, the formation of bone tissues.

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics of the drug is as follows: calcium absorption occurs mainly in the duodenum, there is the highest concentration of calcitriol - a hormone, whose biological role in the body is to promote the absorption of calcium and phosphate. This is why there is a fine mechanism for adjusting its production. It favors absorption and lactose, but prevents a number of fats: cow in milk, beef, palm oil. Such a natural adjustment scheme maintains in equilibrium the content of the substance in the body. It is excreted mainly through the intestine (80%), the rest - by the kidneys.

Side effects of the calcium glycerophosphate

The development of allergies, hypercalcemia and calciuria are the possible side effects of calcium glycerophosphate. Nausea, abdominal pain, and defecation can also occur.

Overdose

Overdose can cause hypercalcemia (more than 2.5 mmol / l in the blood serum), which manifests itself as nausea, diarrhea or constipation, pain in the abdomen, high blood pressure. Such symptoms require discontinuation of the drug and the use of intravenous calcitonin as an antidote.

Interactions with other drugs

Simultaneous reception of calcium preparations enhances the effect of tetracycline antibiotics and cardiac glycosides - cardiologic products based on plants: digitalis (digitoxin, digoxin), lily of the valley (korglikon), goricveta (tincture). Joint application with glucocorticosteroids, loop diuretics reduces the content of the substance in the body, but thiazide diuretics can lead to hypercalcemia.
