Olint is a local vasoconstrictive drug used in the treatment of diseases of the ENT organs. Included in the category of α-adrenomimetics.

Indications of the olinta

It is shown in such cases:

  • treatment of pollinosis, sinusitis, acute form of infectious rhinitis and allergic rhinitis;
  • preparation of the nasal cavity for diagnostic activities;
  • inflammation of the middle ear (as an additional drug - remove the edema in the nasopharynx).

Release form

Available in drops, nasal gel, and also spray.

Gel 0.1%, contained in a tube of 5 g. Inside the package contains 1 tube of gel.

Drops are available in vials of 10, 15, 20 or 30 ml (0.1% and 0.05%), 1 bottle per package.

Spray is produced in vials of 10 or 20 ml (0.1% and 0.05%), 1 bottle in one pack.

Pharmacodynamics

As a result of the application of the drug to the mucous membranes, narrowing of the vessels takes place, which makes it possible to weaken the swelling and reduce local hyperemia. In the treatment of colds, the drug helps to facilitate breathing through the nose.

Dosing and administration

The drug in all its forms is used by the intranasal method.

The gel can be applied no more than 4 times a day, with the last application recommended at least 15 minutes before bedtime.

For children aged 6-12 years, it is required to prescribe a spray, as well as drops with a concentration of 0.05%. Teenagers from 12 years of age can use a spray and a drop, whose concentration is 0.1%.

It is necessary to dig in drops in the amount of 2-3 times in each of the nostrils.

In the case of spray application, it is required to carry out 1 injection in each of the nostrils.

Children under the age of 6 years instilled 1-2 drops in each of the nostrils. A drug with a concentration of 0.05% is used.

Use of the olinta during pregnancy

Do not use Olint during pregnancy.

Contraindications

Among the main contraindications:

  • the presence of intolerance to xylometazoline and other additional elements of drugs;
  • severe form of atherosclerosis;
  • high level of blood pressure;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • available in anamnesis operations on the brain;
  • hyperthyroidism, glaucoma and tachycardia;
  • children should not be prescribed a gel and a solution having a concentration of 0.1%.

Precautions should be taken when:

  • diabetes mellitus, angina pectoris, prostate adenoma;
  • lactational period.

Drops with a concentration of 0.05% for children under 2 years of age are prescribed only in the absence of an alternative.

Side effects of the olinta

Due to the use of the drug, the following side effects may occur:

  • dryness or irritation of the nasal mucosa;
  • local burning;
  • development of paresthesias and paradoxical hypersecretion;
  • swelling of the nasal mucosa, sneezing;
  • tachycardia and arrhythmia, as well as an increase in blood pressure;
  • visual disturbances, headaches, depression;
  • increased excitability and vomiting.

Interactions with other drugs

As a result, the combination of Olint with non-selective inhibitors of reverse monoamine capture, as well as MAO inhibitors, increases the likelihood of an increase in pressure.
