Bikonase is a pharmaceutical used for seasonal allergic diseases. Consider the features of the drug and the rules for its use.
The drug is a topical glucocorticosteroid in the intranasal form. It has anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous properties. Suppression of inflammation is associated with exposure to cells through inhibition of receptors that respond to DNA for changing target genes that regulate the synthesis of protein molecules of the inflammatory process.
Active components block the formation of leukotrienes and inhibit the synthesis of genes that regulate: COX, phospholipase A2, EDN1 allergic process. The antiallergic effect is based on the suppression of receptor sensitivity to biologically active substances and mechanical stimuli, which affect nonspecific nasal hyperreactivity, restores the sense of smell.
Indications Baconazine
Intranasal spray is used to treat and prevent pollinosis. It is prescribed for allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis. Indications for the use of baconase are related to the mechanism of action of its components. Effective in the complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the nasal passages and paranasal sinuses.
With special care is prescribed in combination with systemic steroids, since there is a risk of disruption of adrenal function. The use of the drug after recent surgical interventions in the nasal cavity, injuries or ulcers of the nasal mucosa is possible with appropriate medical control.
In spite of the fact that Baconase cures the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, especially severe cases associated with an increased amount of allergens require auxiliary treatment. Additional therapy is also necessary for pathological symptoms on the part of the organs of vision.
Release form
The hormonal drug has the form of release - a nasal spray. Its active component is beclomethasone dipropionate. Each dose contains 50 μg of this substance. The drug is available in 100 and 180-dose vials. Polypropylene vials with dosing device, nose adapter and lid.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug is intended for topical use. Its pharmacodynamics indicates a powerful anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive effect. The active component of beclomethasone dipropionate is an analogue of GCS. In the process of metabolism is transformed into an active metabolite beclomethasone-17-monopropionate with a high local anti-inflammatory effect. Its regular use prevents allergy symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
After application, it is quickly absorbed on the nasal mucosa. Pharmacokinetics indicates that about 5% of the inhaled dose enters the systemic circulation and undergoes full biotransformation when first passed through the liver.
Bioavailability is low. Minimal absorption reduces the risk of adverse reactions with prolonged use of baconase. Half-life takes 12-15 hours, about 15% is eliminated by the kidneys, 35-75% is excreted with feces in the form of inactive metabolites.
Dosing and administration
The drug is intended for intranasal use. The method of administration and dose of baconase depends on the severity of the symptoms of allergy and individual characteristics of the patient's body. Therefore, before using it is better to consult with your doctor.
For treatment of children older than 6 years and adults, one dose (3-4 instillations) per day is recommended per nostril. The maximum dosage is two doses-injections per day (400 mkg). A persistent therapeutic effect is observed 5-7 days after the first application.

Use Baconazine during pregnancy
Intranasal spray has a pronounced local activity and minimal systemic effects. Use of baconase during pregnancy is possible with a high probability of benefit to the mother. The use of the spray during lactation is also allowed, since the accumulation of active components in breast milk is minimal.
Contraindications
Baconase has a number of contraindications to use, consider them:
- Intolerance of the components of the agent
- Children's age of patients
- Severe attacks of bronchial asthma
- Candidamycosis
- Tuberculosis
The use of a spray in the presence of contraindications is dangerous, since it can cause uncontrolled reactions from many organs and systems.
Side effects Baconazine
Antiallergic spray may cause side effects. Baconase provokes such reactions:
- On the part of the immune system: rashes, hives, itching, shortness of breath, bronchospasm, swelling, anaphylactic reactions.
- On the part of the organs of vision: cataract, increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma.
- From the side of the nervous system: a violation of taste sensitivity, the presence of unpleasant taste or smell.
- On the part of the respiratory system: irritation, dry nose and throat, nosebleeds, cough, dyspnea, in rare cases, there is perforation of the nasal septum.
Prolonged use or use of increased dosages, can cause candidiasis, osteoporosis, a decrease in the function of the adrenal cortex.
Overdose
Increased doses of baconase cause reversible suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal regulation. Overdosing requires emergency care. There is no specific antidote, so it is necessary to consult a doctor and adjust the therapeutic dose of the medicine. Restoration of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system occurs within 36-48 hours.
Interactions with other drugs
Active components of the spray can enhance their effect when used with other glucocorticosteroids or b-adrenoreceptors. To prevent undesirable side reactions, any interaction with other drugs should be controlled by the attending physician.
Storage conditions
Shelf life
Baconase must be used within 36 months from the production date. Shelf life of the open spray is 28 days. At the end of this date, the drug must be disposed of. This is associated with the risk of developing adverse reactions and the loss of its drug efficacy.
