Zoxon is a drug from the group of α1-adrenergic blockers.

Indications Zoxone

It is used to eliminate the following violations:

  • benign prostatic hyperplasia (with or without a strong increase in blood pressure);
  • increased blood pressure readings.

Release form

The drug is released in tablets of 1.2 and 4 mg, inside blister packs of 10 or 15 pieces. Inside the box - 1-3, as well as 9 or 10 plates.

Pharmacodynamics

The active element of the drug is a selective α1-adrenoreceptor blocker. It is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The treatment allows to significantly improve urodynamics, as well as reduce the severity of pathology signs. The positive effect develops by blocking α1-adrenoreceptors located inside the capsule, prostate stroma, and also the neck of the bladder.

At the same time, the use of Zoxon helps to reduce blood pressure values - the drug reduces the overall resistance inside peripheral vessels.

The drug achieves a medicinally significant antihypertensive effect after taking a single daily dose, maintaining its properties for 24 hours. The decrease in blood pressure is gradual. The maximum effect is recorded after 2-6 hours from the moment of taking the tablets.

The drug has a positive effect on blood lipid levels, helping to reduce triglyceride levels with cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of developing coronary heart disease. It has been found that the use of the drug reduces left ventricular cardiac hypertrophy, helping to suppress platelet aggregation and reduce the risk of thrombus formation.

When taking the drug, no negative impact on metabolic processes and important body systems was found. Because of this, the drug can be prescribed to the elderly, people with diabetes, gout, and bronchial asthma.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is completely absorbed in the body through the gastrointestinal tract. When taken with food, absorption is inhibited (approximately 60 minutes). It takes 1-2 hours to reach peak values of the drug in the blood plasma.

Protein synthesis is approximately 98%. During metabolic processes, inactive decay products are formed.

Excretion occurs in 2 stages – the drug is excreted in the form of metabolic products, as well as unchanged substance (a small part).

Dosing and administration

The medication is taken orally, 1 tablet per day. It should be swallowed whole and washed down with plain water.

To treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, against which there is no increase in blood pressure, the drug should be taken in a daily dose of 2-4 mg. In this case, no more than 8 mg of the drug is allowed per day.

To reduce elevated blood pressure, portion sizes are selected individually, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and the severity of the disease. Because of this, the daily dosage can vary between 1-16 mg.

Usually, therapy begins with a daily dose of 1 mg (it is recommended to take the drug in the evening, before bedtime, because after taking it, you need to lie down for 6-8 hours). This approach allows you to prevent the development of the "1-dose phenomenon". If this dose is insufficient for the development of the drug effect, after 7-14 days of therapy, it is allowed to increase the dose to 2 mg or more until the desired result is achieved.

Many patients feel better after taking a daily dose of 8 mg. However, it should be taken into account that the drug should not be taken in doses exceeding 16 mg. After achieving a stable medicinal effect, it is necessary to gradually reduce the dosage, bringing it to 2-4 mg.

Many patients are prescribed the drug in a 4 mg dose as a maintenance treatment. The medication is taken over a long course, which is determined by the attending physician.

Side effects Zoxone

At the initial stage of treatment with the drug, individual side effects may occur, developing in the area of different systems - digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, etc. Sometimes the symptoms include: fainting, orthostatic collapse, asthenia, edema, a feeling of malaise or fatigue, and in addition, headaches, runny nose, nausea and dizziness.

Along with this, signs of allergy, a feeling of stiffness in the musculoskeletal area, visual disturbances, etc. may also occur.

Overdose

In case of intoxication, a disorder such as a decrease in blood pressure may develop, which may lead to fainting.

To eliminate the disorder, it is necessary to first lay the victim horizontally, slightly raising his legs and lowering his head. After this, gastric lavage is performed. Activated carbon and other symptomatic measures may also be prescribed, which are carried out under the supervision of a doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

It has been found that doxazosin can potentiate the antihypertensive properties of antihypertensive drugs. At the same time, the drug is well combined with furosemide, thiazide diuretics, antibiotics, β-blockers, drugs that block slow Ca channels, indirect anticoagulants, antidiabetic and uricosuric drugs.

Combination with drugs that induce microsomal oxidation inside the liver may increase the effect of doxazosin. When combined with inhibitor drugs, the opposite effect is observed - a decrease in effect.

Use together with NSAIDs (such as intomethacin), as well as sympathomimetics and estrogens, weakens the antihypertensive properties of Zoxon.

Reviews

Zoxon receives quite a large number of different reviews. Most often, patients write that after using the drug, the condition improves significantly, although it is not possible to completely eliminate the developed disorders with its help.

Men treated with the drug for prostatitis underwent a full therapeutic course, which in addition to Zoxon included additional drugs and procedures. This scheme was quite effective, although the effect lasted only for a short period of time. After the end of therapy, all the negative symptoms (increased frequency of urination and a feeling of discomfort) gradually returned again.

When treating hypertension, a combination therapy regimen that affects the function of the cardiovascular system is often used. The portion size and the regimen for taking the drug are selected with great care, because in this case an individual approach is required.

Therapy using such drugs should be carried out very carefully. The use of the drug should be started only as prescribed by a doctor, after passing all the necessary diagnostic tests. At the same time, during the therapy, the patient should regularly visit his doctor for examinations. This approach will ensure optimal adjustment of the portions and treatment regimen, which determine the effectiveness of the treatment.
