Zodak is a 2nd generation antiallergic drug with a prolonged type of therapeutic effect.
Indications Zodaca
It is used to eliminate the following disorders:
- hay fever;
- allergic conjunctivitis, as well as rhinitis (seasonal or year-round);
- an itchy form of dermatosis of allergic origin;
- urticaria (this includes the chronic stage of idiopathic urticaria);
- angioedema.
Release form
The medication is available in tablets, drops, and syrup.
The tablets are packaged in blister packs of 7 or 10 pieces.
The syrup is contained in glass bottles with a capacity of 100 ml. Inside the box there is 1 such bottle, which comes with a measuring spoon.
The drops are produced in glass bottles with a capacity of 20 ml. In addition to the bottle, the pack also contains a special dropper cap.
Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient cetirizine is a component of a group of competitive histamine antagonists. The component helps block the endings of H1 histamine, and at the same time has virtually no cholinolytic or antiserotonin effect. It has a strong antiallergic effect, while also having an antipruritic and antiexudative effect.
The drug reduces the severity of allergy symptoms already at an early stage. In addition, it reduces the degree of movement of inflammatory cells. The drug suppresses the processes of secretion of conductors involved in the manifestation of late signs of allergy.
At the same time, cetirizine eliminates smooth muscle spasms and strengthens capillaries, thereby preventing tissue edema. It helps reduce the severity of skin reactions to the use of histamine and specific allergens, as well as to hypothermia (if cold urticaria develops).
Using the medication in a therapeutic dose does not cause a sedative effect and does not lead to a feeling of drowsiness.
Pharmacokinetics
After taking drops, tablets or syrup, the active element is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The drug reaches peak values in the body 0.5-1 hour after administration.
Food intake has little effect on the extent of absorption, but taking the drug with food results in a slight decrease in the rate of absorption.
Synthesis with blood protein is about 93%. The drug does not penetrate into cells or through the BBB.
Metabolic processes take place inside the liver, resulting in the formation of inactive metabolic products.
When taking the drug in a 10 mg dose for 10 days, no accumulation of the active element inside the body is observed.
Most of the drug is excreted unchanged through the kidneys. After a single use of the drug, its half-life is about 10 hours. If the drug is taken by a child aged 2-12 years, the half-life of the substance decreases to 5-6 hours.
If the patient has problems with kidney function or if he undergoes hemodialysis procedures, the half-life is extended threefold, and the clearance rate is reduced by 70%.

People with kidney failure should reduce the dose by half. For elderly patients without kidney problems, no dose adjustment is required.
Mode of use of oral drops.
Before using the drops, they must be diluted in plain water. For adolescents from 12 years of age and adult patients, 20 drops of the drug are prescribed once a day. It is recommended to take the drug in the evening.

Overdose
Due to drug poisoning, patients may develop the following negative symptoms: a feeling of drowsiness, as well as inhibition, weakness and severe fatigue. Tachycardia and headaches also occur. A feeling of irritability, constipation, dry mouth and delayed urination may occur.
To eliminate an overdose, symptomatic measures should be taken. The medication has no antidote. Gastric lavage is performed and activated charcoal is prescribed.
Interactions with other drugs
When the drug is used in combination with theophylline (in a dose of 0.4 g/day), a decrease in the overall clearance values of cetirizine is observed, while the pharmacokinetics of theophylline remains unchanged.
Cetirizine does not affect the processes of warfarin synthesis with blood proteins. In the case of such a combination, the absorption rate decreases, but its volume remains unchanged.
