In Russia, more than 20,000 people living in natural plague foci (Altai, Dagestan, Kalmykia, Tuva, etc.) are at high risk of contracting the plague. These people, as well as people working with live cultures of the plague pathogen, should be vaccinated against the plague. Cases of the plague are registered annually in countries bordering Russia (Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China).

The following are used: Plague vaccine live dry for oral use - lyophilized live culture of the vaccine strain of the plague microbe EB line NIIEG with a stabilizer and filler. One tablet contains one vaccination dose of (40±10)10 live microbes. Release form: 40 and 90 tablets in glass jars made of light-protective glass. The drug is stored at a temperature of minus 20°±2° for 3 years, storage at a temperature of 2-6° for 1 year is allowed. Transported at a T° not exceeding 10°.

The live dry plague vaccine is used from the age of 2 years, it is a lyophilized live culture of the vaccine strain of the plague microbe EV line NIIEG with a stabilizer, it looks like a dry porous mass of grayish-white color. Release form: 2 ml in an ampoule (vial). The package contains 10 ampoules (vials). Store at a temperature not exceeding 6 °. Shelf life is 3 years.

Method of administration and dosage of plague vaccination

The oral vaccine is administered from the age of 14, once: one tablet must be actively sucked or thoroughly chewed for 5-7 minutes and then do not drink, eat or smoke for 30 minutes. Swallowing the tablet whole is PROHIBITED!

The live dry vaccine against plague is administered once in 3 ways. Inhalations are carried out in a special room. In adults, simultaneous vaccination with one of the plague vaccines and cutaneous vaccination against brucellosis and tularemia on different areas of the outer surface of the upper third of the shoulder is allowed.

Both vaccines induce the development of immunity lasting up to 1 year. Revaccination with both vaccines is carried out after one year, in unfavorable epidemic conditions - after 6 months with the same dose.

Reactions to administration and contraindications

Local reactions to the oral plague vaccine: limited, mild hyperemia of the oral mucosa in the tonsil area and minor pain felt when swallowing for 1-3 days and lasting 2-3 days. General reactions: fever for 1-2 days, malaise, headache, weakness, muscle pain. Before mass use, each batch of the vaccine is tested in a group of 50-100 people equal in age and health to the main contingent of those vaccinated. Vaccines are used if the frequency of local reactions does not exceed 45%, general weak (T° 37.1-37.5°) up to 3%, moderate (T° 37.6-38.5°) no more than 2%, strong (T° above 38.5°) no more than 1%.

Reactions to vaccinations with a live dry vaccine are described in the instructions attached to the vaccine. Thermometry on the day of vaccination is mandatory; at 37° and above, it is postponed. Contraindications for the oral plague vaccine, in addition to the general ones, are:
