The drug Uzara is classified as an antidiarrheal drug used by gastroenterologists to treat adult patients and children over 12 months. The main purpose of Uzara is to suppress intestinal motility.

Uzara is produced by the German pharmaceutical company Stada Arzneimittel AG.

Indications usaries

The medicine is used to quickly provide assistance in acute non-specific diarrhea, including allergic diarrhea, as well as diarrhea caused by a stressful situation, or associated with a violation of the diet or an unusual composition of food.

As an additional agent, Uzara can be prescribed for the treatment of diarrhea of infectious etiology.

Release form

The drug Uzara can be produced in various dosage forms:

  • in the form of coated tablets, 20 pcs. per package;
  • in the form of a transparent brownish syrup for oral administration, 100 ml bottle;
  • as an oral solution, 100 ml or 30 ml bottle.

The active component of the drug is a plant extract of the root of the uzara (Xysmalobium undulatum).

Additional substances:

  • the tablet form is supplemented with calcium carbonate, glucose, ground seeds of the Constantinople pods, lactose, magnesium oxide and stearate, glycol wax, castor oil, sucrose, silicon dioxide, talc, starches and titanium dioxide;
  • The syrup contains propylene glycol, flavorings, macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, glucose, and purified water.

Uzara is packed in cardboard boxes. A measuring cap-dispenser is provided with the syrup.

Pharmacodynamics

Uzara is an antidiarrheal agent of natural composition, the action of which is aimed at inhibiting the motor function of the intestine. Biological plant components of the drug effectively eliminate spasms, weaken peristalsis, have a tanning effect, and inhibit the secretory activity of the digestive system.

The drug's action scheme is based on the influence of the active components on the sympathetic nervous system.

The pharmacokinetic properties of the drug Uzara have not been studied.

Dosing and administration

The method of administration and dosage of Uzar depend on the course of diarrhea, the age of the patient and the form of the drug.

Uzara is intended for internal use, regardless of the time of food consumption.

  • The syrup for adults is prescribed in a dose of 25 ml at a time, then (if necessary) 5 ml up to 6 times a day until intestinal function stabilizes.

For children under 16 years of age, the first dose is about 5 ml of the drug, then 3 ml up to 6 times a day.

Children under 6 years of age are prescribed 1 ml of the drug up to 6 times a day.

Children from 12 months to 2 years are prescribed ½ ml three times a day.

  • Adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed tablets in a dose of 5 tablets at a time, then (if necessary) 1 tablet up to 6 times a day until bowel function is normalized.

Children under 12 years of age are prescribed 1 tablet three times on the first day of therapy, then 1 tablet up to 3 times a day until the condition stabilizes.

The maximum duration of therapy is 5 days.

Use usaries during pregnancy

During special studies, specialists did not find any negative impact on the course of pregnancy, as well as on the condition and development of the fetus. To this day, there have been no reports of cases of abnormalities in the unborn child after the mother used this drug.

However, due to the fact that not enough time has passed since the studies to draw final conclusions about the safety of the drug, the use of Uzar during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

In some cases, it is permissible for pregnant women to use Uzara, but only if the expected benefit is greater than the possible risks and dangers of the consequences. Do not take the drug during pregnancy without a doctor's prescription.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Uzar are:

  • allergic sensitivity of the body to individual components of the drug;
  • taking cardiac glycoside medications;
  • heart rhythm disturbances;
  • disorder of absorption of lactose, galactose and glucose components, as well as their intolerance;
  • hypersensitivity to fructose and sucrose;
  • lack of potassium and magnesium in the blood;
  • children from birth to 12 months.

The drug in tablet form is indicated for children aged 6 years and over.

The drug should be used with caution if intestinal obstruction is suspected.

Patients with gluten intolerance and diabetes should remember that the tablet preparation Uzara contains starches and glucose syrup.

If diarrhea continues for more than 2 days, blood is found in the stool, or the body temperature rises, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Side effects usaries

Side effects of Uzar include:

  • allergic processes as a response to some components of the drug (redness, swelling and rashes on the skin);
  • dyspeptic symptoms in the form of nausea and vomiting;
  • cardiac disorders (arrhythmia), convulsive states.

If side effects develop, it is recommended to stop taking the drug.

Overdose

When taking large therapeutic doses of the drug, the following phenomena may occur:

  • allergy;
  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;
  • headache;
  • sleep disorder;
  • arrhythmia;
  • irritability.

If an overdose is suspected, the patient should be given activated charcoal or the gag reflex should be stimulated.

It is essential to monitor cardiac activity and electrolyte balance, as Uzara has an effect similar to cardiac glycosides.

Interactions with other drugs

It is not recommended to use Uzara with medications containing calcium, as well as with osmotic diuretics and cardiac glycosides, due to the possible occurrence of cardiac dysfunction.

It is not recommended to take the drug together with alcoholic beverages, as their interaction has not been studied.

Storage conditions

The drug is stored at normal temperature, not exceeding 25°C. Children should not be allowed near the places where the medicines are stored.

Shelf life

The shelf life of Uzara is up to 5 years. After the expiration date, the drug should be thrown away.
