Pharmacodynamics
Testosterone is a direct participant in the processes of formation of seminal vesicles with testicles and prostate, and along with this takes part in the development of sexual characteristics of secondary and tertiary nature. In addition, this hormone affects the formation of the general body constitution and human sexual behavior. The element helps to increase sexual desire and potency, stimulates the activation of spermatogenesis processes, and also reduces the severity of climacteric manifestations in men.
Testosterone is an antagonist of the female sex hormone, estrogen. Its effect slows down the gonadotropic activity of the pituitary gland and suppresses the work of the mammary glands. A person undergoing treatment with this drug may experience signs of masculinization.
The drug acts as an anabolic: it increases the rate of protein binding, helps to potentiate calcium retention in bone tissue, increases hemoglobin levels in the blood and muscle mass, and in addition, activates renal production of erythropoietin.
The introduction of exogenous testosterone to a healthy man leads to the suppression of the production of natural, endogenous testosterone. This is due to a decrease in the secretion of LH. The use of large doses of the drug leads to the suppression of spermatogenesis, because it affects the reverse slowdown of the processes of FSH secretion.
During testosterone therapy in men with functional pituitary insufficiency, there is a potentiation of hypogonadism symptoms. But if impotence is not associated with hypogonadism, but with other factors, then the use of Omnadren will not be able to eliminate the problem.
Pharmacokinetics
Testosterone esters contained in the drug have different absorption and excretion rates, due to which a rapid medicinal effect and a long-term effect (approximately 1 month) are observed with 1-time use. For example, the effect of testosterone propionate develops within 1 day after use, and isocaproate with testosterone phenylpropionate begins to act only after 24 hours from the moment of use.
Testosterone capronate exerts its effect at a time when the effects of testosterone phenylpropionate and isocaproate are no longer recorded.
Protein synthesis of the drug inside the plasma is 98%. Metabolic processes occur inside the liver; in this case, 17-ketosteroids are formed, which are then synthesized with sulfuric or glucuronic acid. After that, they are excreted in the urine.
Approximately 90% of the drug is excreted by the kidneys as a metabolic product, and another 6% by the intestines, unchanged.
The half-life of testosterone is within 10-100 minutes.
Dosing and administration
The drug is used in a portion of 1 ml of the substance, administered once during a period of 28 days. The procedure is performed intramuscularly - the medicine is injected deep into the gluteal muscle. The size of the portion is selected by the attending physician, taking into account the prescribed indications and how the patient's body reacts to the use of the drug.
In the case of treatment of primary hypogonadism in men, the drug is administered intramuscularly once, with an interval of 7, 14 or 21 days. The frequency of the procedure is determined by the degree of insufficiency of the patient's sex gland function.
In case of male menopause, Omnadren is used once every 14 days. Then, when the effect of using the drug becomes noticeable, it is necessary to transfer the patient to using the drug once every 21 days.
During the treatment of infertility in men, 2 ml of the drug is administered once every 2 weeks. If pain in the penis during erection occurs during therapy, the treatment course should be discontinued.
During female menopause, the medication is used in a 1 ml dose, with 1 application every 2 or 3 weeks.
In oncology affecting the mammary glands or ovaries, the solution is used in a dosage of 1-2 ml, once every 1 or 2 weeks. This cycle continues for quite a long time.
Use Omnadrena during pregnancy
Omnadren should not be prescribed to nursing or pregnant women. If therapy is necessary during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued during this period.
Contraindications
Side effects Omnadrena
The use of the medication may cause some side effects:
- endocrine dysfunction: in women, hirsutism, dysmenorrhea or masculinization may occur, as well as a slowdown in the secretion of gonadotropin. In men, spermatogenesis may be impaired, as well as gynecomastia, oligospermia or priapism. When used in adolescent boys, overly active puberty may occur;
- problems with the reproductive system: libido disorder;
- lesions affecting the epidermis: male pattern alopecia and acne;
- digestive disorders: the occurrence of liver tumors or purpura, nausea, as well as problems with the liver and cholestatic jaundice;
- disorders of blood coagulation processes: inhibition of the activity of many blood coagulation factors within the plasma, and in addition, the development of bleeding in individuals using drugs that have an anticoagulant effect;
- problems associated with the functioning of the PNS or CNS: headaches, feelings of fear, paresthesia;
- metabolic disorders: increased cholesterol levels in blood plasma.
Local symptoms and pain may also develop at the injection sites.
Interactions with other drugs
When used together with an oral anticoagulant drug, the level of blood clotting should be monitored regularly and carefully.
In diabetics using androgenic drugs, the introduction of Omnadren may reduce blood sugar levels, and in addition, there may be a need to use insulin.
The use of the drug in combination with GCS or ACTH increases the likelihood of peripheral edema - for example, in people with liver pathologies or lesions affecting the cardiovascular system.
The effects of testosterone may be weakened when the substance is combined with drugs that stimulate the induction of microsomal liver enzymes.
Storage conditions
Omnadren should be kept in a place protected from sunlight, at temperatures between 15-25°C.
If a precipitate in the form of flakes appears in the solution, it is necessary to place the ampoule with it in ordinary water at a temperature of 37°C for a short period of time.

Reviews
Omnadren receives quite varied reviews. For example, some of the patients who used the drug report the development of individual side effects caused by the characteristics of the medication.
Among the observations - long-term therapy causes liver dysfunction, fluid retention and the appearance of pronounced acne on the epidermis. At the same time, due to the wide availability of the drug, it is often injected in too large portions - in an attempt to build muscle mass. It is the excessive excess of the permissible portion that leads to the occurrence of negative symptoms.
