You can use it either internally (before eating) or by injection (intramuscularly).
The dosage is determined by the patient’s well-being and the severity of the pathological process from which he suffers.
- Psychosomatic pathologies and severe depressive illnesses:
In this case, Chlorprothixene is prescribed as an additional medication in combination therapy. As a rule, after a couple of uses, the daily dose reaches a value of sixty to ninety milligrams.
- Psychoses, schizophrenia, manic disorders:
At the beginning of treatment, Chlorprothixene is used from fifty to two hundred milligrams per day, then the dosage is increased to two hundred fifty - three hundred milligrams. In exceptional cases, the dosage can be increased to 1200 mg (but when dividing into single doses, it is worth remembering that the majority, about forty percent, should be taken in the evening).
Maintenance treatment is taking one hundred to two hundred milligrams per day.
- Neuroses:
The medication should be taken before bed, ten to fifteen, sometimes thirty, and in exceptional cases forty-five milligrams.
- Withdrawal syndrome ("hangover", post-drug state):
Five hundred milligrams of the drug should be divided into three doses during the day. It should be taken this way for five to seven days. To reduce the likelihood of relapse, as a maintenance dose, after completing treatment, the dose should be reduced to 15 - 45 mg per day.
- Elderly patients with severe hyperactivity, irascibility, confusion, and nervous overexcitement:
Treatment begins with fifteen to ninety milligrams per day, and gradually increases until the desired effect is achieved.
- A sleep disorder that manifests itself as insomnia:
An hour before the desired bedtime, you need to take fifteen to thirty milligrams of Truxal.
- Childhood behavior disorders:
The dose is calculated based on the child’s weight according to the formula:
Dose = 0.5 – 2 mg x child’s weight (in kg)
On average, the recommended dosage is:
- for nervousness – 5-30 mg per day;
- for psychosis – 100–200 mg per day.
- To increase the effectiveness of pain-relieving medications:
In combination with analgesic medications, it is worth taking from fifteen to three hundred milligrams per day.
- Itchy skin (regardless of the cause):
Dividing the daily dose into four doses, consume from fifteen to one hundred milligrams per day.
- Risk of miscarriage, premature birth:
Fifteen milligrams two to three times a day for two to three days. Then, for seven to ten days, you need to take a reduced dose of the drug.
In the form of an injection, Truxal can be prescribed by the attending physician either at the beginning of treatment, or if the patient cannot (or refuses) to take tablets.

Overdose
If the patient significantly exceeds the recommended dosage of the drug, he may experience the following symptoms: convulsions, hypotension, shock, coma, increased excitability, uncontrolled motor activity, increased heart rate, and respiratory dysfunction.
To save the patient, it is necessary to immediately wash out the stomach, give medications with a laxative effect or adsorbents. In parallel, depending on the severity of the symptoms, it is worth taking measures to maintain the patient's health. Hemodialysis in this case will not have an effect.
If the patient has severe cardiovascular symptoms, he should never be given Adrenaline, as this will greatly reduce the pressure.
Convulsions are relieved with Diazepam.
In case of uncontrolled movements, Bioperiden should be used.
Due to the possibility of vomit entering the respiratory tract, the patient should not be induced to vomit.
Interactions with other drugs
If Truxal is used together with anesthetics, narcotic analgesics, sedatives, neuroleptics, alcohol-containing substances, the depressant effect of the medication will increase.
With anticholinergic, antiallergic and antiparkinsonism drugs – increased anticholinergic effect.
Blood pressure lowering drugs increase their effectiveness when taken simultaneously with Truxal.

If you summarize absolutely all opinions, you can say with confidence that this drug has an excellent sleeping effect, which helps with psychosis.
The main complaints of patients are increased sleepiness and slight inhibition. It is worth noting that there are also people who, after taking this medication, experienced severe anxiety and even hallucinations. Most of the reviews are positive.
Doctors note the medication as an excellent neuroleptic, but with strict indications for use. Truxal should never be combined with alcohol.
