Manifestations of cystitis (pain in the lower abdomen, cramps when urinating, frequent urging to the toilet) cannot be ignored, it should be treated. The most common cause of the disease are infectious pathogens - gram-positive and gram-negative enterobacteria, fungi, viruses, and hypothermia, injury, hormonal disorders, and vitamin deficiencies are the impetus for their development. One of the effective drugs of antibacterial action is metronidazole. Can it be used to treat inflammation of the bladder mucosa and does it help with cystitis?
Indications Metronidazole
Under the action of the drug are infections caused by a large group of organisms that are sensitive to it, called aero-organisms, including those resulting from surgery. They are treated with urogenital trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amebic dysentery, nonspecific vaginitis. Successfully used the tool and urinary tract infections.

Release form
Metronidazole is produced in tablets, suppositories, gels. Usually it is prescribed in tablet form for oral administration, but other forms are included in the treatment of cystitis in women. This is caused by the special physiological structure of their urinary organs: the urethra is located in close proximity to the anus, it is short and wide, and therefore vulnerable to the penetration of E. Coli. The introduction of a gel or suppository into the vagina speeds up the healing process.

Pharmacodynamics
Pharmacokinetics
Once in the body, metronidazole creates high concentrations in tissues and biological fluids. Just an hour after taking 80% of the substance is absorbed into the blood. The average half-life is 10 hours. Metabolism is carried out in the liver by oxidation. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys (the urine turns brown in this case), partly with feces.

Dosing and administration
The dose of drug treatment is determined by the doctor individually, depending on the severity of the disease, other features of the body. Usually it is 1 tablet (250mg), 2 times a day. If necessary, the intensity of treatment is increased up to 3 times with intervals between doses of the drug for at least 8 hours.
For women, the treatment with metronidazole for cystitis can be supplemented with suppositories or gel in the first 2 days of therapy (morning and evening). Before their use, hygiene procedures are required.
Treatment of children with a drug is carried out with a dose calculated by the formula of 30-40 mg per kilogram of body weight in 2-3 doses.
How much do metronidazole drink with cystitis? The time of therapy takes up to 10 days, it is impossible to exceed this period.

Application for children
Children under 6 years old are not prescribed. For older age, the dosage is calculated based on body weight.
Use Metronidazole during pregnancy
Studies on the effect of the drug on the development of the fetus during pregnancy were carried out only on animals and did not reveal its teratogenic effect. Probably, to give a clear answer regarding people, additional observations are needed. It is believed that if there is a real threat to the life of the future mother, it can still be used and this is decided by the doctor.
Metronidazole penetrates into breast milk, which becomes an obstacle to its appointment during breastfeeding. Another option is to stop lactation at the time of treatment.
Contraindications
Metronidazole is not prescribed or immediately discontinued in case of an allergic reaction to it. It is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age, pregnant, lactating mothers.
