An effective drug for the treatment of bladder inflammation is Furadonin. In cystitis, it stops the proliferation of bacteria and speeds up recovery.
Cystitis is one of the most common diseases of the genitourinary system among women. According to medical statistics, about 80% of cases occur in the female sex. The painful condition occurs due to many pathological causes that lead to inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bladder.
Treatment depends on a number of factors, which are classified according to the following criteria:
- Type of pathogen: bacterial (chlamydia, ureaplasma, gonorrhea, staphylococci, streptococci and others) and non-bacterial (toxic, medicinal, allergenic).
- Nature of the course: acute and chronic.
- Morphological changes in the organ: ulcerative, catarrhal, cystic.
- Localization of pathology: mucous membrane of the urinary bladder, submucosal layer, muscular layer.
Treatment is carried out by several specialists at the same time: a urologist, a nephrologist and a gynecologist. With a correctly selected treatment regimen, recovery occurs in 7-12 days. Most often, the disease develops due to the action of pathogenic microorganisms. To destroy them, specific therapy with antibacterial and antimicrobial drugs is carried out.
Furadonin is an antimicrobial agent from the pharmacological group of nitrofurans. Each tablet contains 50/100 mg of the active substance nitrofurantoin. The active component disrupts the permeability of cell membranes and protein synthesis in bacterial cells. It has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect.
The drug exhibits high activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It is most effective against the following pathogens: Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella paratyphi A, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi B, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Proteus, Shigella sonnei. The drug is available over-the-counter, but should only be taken with the consent of the attending physician.
Fast treatment of cystitis with furadonin
Cystitis is an unpleasant disease that both women and men face. It manifests itself as discomfort in the lower abdomen, painful urination and a burning sensation in the genitals. It is better to treat the disease in the early stages, since as the inflammation progresses, it becomes chronic.
The choice of therapy method depends on the cause of the disease: infection, hypothermia, fungal infection. A urine test is indicated to select an effective drug and determine the cause of the disorder.
If the inflammation is caused by an infection, then antimicrobial and antibiotic agents are indicated. Furadonin is one of the most effective drugs for the rapid treatment of cystitis. The drug not only fights infection, but also stops the inflammatory process. It has a wide range of antimicrobial action. It is used only as prescribed by a doctor, as it can cause side effects and has contraindications.
Indications Furadonin for cystitis
Furadonin is an antimicrobial agent from the pharmacological group of nitrofurans. The main indications for its use are infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug:
- Cystitis.
- Pyelitis.
- Urethritis.
- Pyelonephritis.
The drug is also used as a prophylactic agent in urological operations, cystoscopy, and catheterization.
Furadonin for acute cystitis
Very often, inflammation of the bladder occurs in an acute form. The unpleasant condition is manifested by frequent and painful urination, the presence of pus and blood in the urine, and subfebrile body temperature.
Treatment should be comprehensive. Furadonin for acute cystitis is prescribed with systemic anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antibacterial drugs. The drug's action is aimed at destroying pathogenic microorganisms and reducing inflammation. Interaction with other drugs provides a stable therapeutic effect for a short period of time. The average course of treatment is 5-7 days.

Pharmacodynamics
A drug from the nitrofuran group with antimicrobial properties. Disrupts the permeability of cell membranes and protein synthesis in bacteria. Has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect.
Highly active against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, especially Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella paratyphi A, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi B, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Proteus, Shigella sonnei.
The active substance is nitrofurantoin, belongs to the nitrofuran group, uroantiseptic. Creates increased concentrations in urine, which is especially effective in cases of urinary tract lesions.
How quickly does furadonin help with cystitis?
According to reviews from many patients who were prescribed Furadonin for cystitis, the therapeutic effect appears 3-4 hours after taking it. The active components affect only the excretory system, without affecting the intestines and other organs. Due to this, the inflammatory process and other painful symptoms are reduced.
The medicine has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial action. To completely eliminate the infection, the drug must be taken for 5-7 days. If the tablets are used for preventive purposes, then take 1 capsule before bedtime for 3 days.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, nitrofurantoin is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is about 50%, food intake increases this value. Plasma protein binding is 60-95%. The active components are partially metabolized in the liver. About 30% is excreted unchanged in the urine, since the drug has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect on the urinary tract.
Therapeutic concentrations in tissues and blood do not occur. The half-life is about 60 minutes. High levels of nitrofurantoin in urine persist for 12 hours. The components of the drug penetrate the placental and blood-brain barrier, as well as into breast milk.
Dosing and administration
The drug is taken orally during or after meals, with plenty of water. The dosage depends on the characteristics of the course of cystitis. For adults and patients over 12 years of age, the following doses are recommended:
- Acute infections: 100 mg 2 times daily for a week.
- Severe chronic recurrent infections: 100 mg 3-4 times daily for 7 days.
- Prevention of infections during surgical interventions and diagnostic procedures: 100 mg 2 times a day before the procedure and 3 days after.
The dosage for children under 12 years is calculated as 5-8 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 doses. The maximum single dose is 300 mg, daily dose is 600 mg. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease.
How to take furadonin correctly for cystitis?
The treatment regimen is selected individually for each patient. According to the instructions for use, Furadonin should be taken 1-2 tablets (100-150 mg) 3-4 times a day. The duration of therapy is 5-10 days. Moreover, the earlier the treatment is started, the higher the therapeutic effect. Many patients note relief of the painful condition on the 2-3 day. Despite the positive results, treatment should not be stopped, as the disease may recur or become chronic.
When using a medicinal product, a number of features of antimicrobial therapy should be taken into account:
- The drug is prescribed with caution to patients with impaired renal function. Reduced excretion of the active substance and impaired concentration in urine may increase the level of nitrofurantoin in the blood plasma. This is dangerous due to intoxication of the body.
- It is used with caution in the treatment of patients with anemia, endocrine diseases, electrolyte and B vitamin imbalance, lung diseases, and general exhaustion of the body.
- During long-term treatment, it is necessary to monitor respiratory functions, especially in elderly patients, since there is a risk of deterioration of pulmonary reactions.
- During long-term therapy, liver function tests and blood counts should be monitored. There is a risk of developing chronic hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice.
- The medication disrupts the normal microflora of the colon, and therefore may cause diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile.
- In rare cases, long-term therapy leads to bacterial resistance. To normalize the condition, you should stop taking the drug and choose another antibacterial agent.
Furadonin does not affect psychomotor reactions when working with mechanisms or while driving a vehicle.

How many days should you take furadonin for cystitis?
In order for the antimicrobial agent to have the maximum therapeutic effect without harming the body, it is necessary to choose the correct dosage and duration of therapy. If cystitis occurs without complications, then the following treatment regimen is indicated:
- Children under 12 years old – 5-8 mg/kg per day. The dose is divided into 4 doses.
- Patients over 12 years of age – 100 mg 2-3 times a day.
- Persons over 16 years of age – 100 mg 4 times a day for 7 days.
On average, tablets are taken for 5 to 10 days. If the drug is used for preventive purposes, it can be a single dose of 100 mg or longer therapy.
When using Furadonin, it is important to take it correctly. Tablets are taken during or immediately after meals. Capsules are not chewed and are washed down with plenty of water. If the next dose is missed, the next one is taken without changing the dosage. Most patients experience relief of the painful condition after 2-3 days of treatment.
Furadonin for the prevention of cystitis
When treating infectious inflammation of the bladder, special attention is paid to preventive measures. To prevent exacerbations of cystitis, a maintenance dose of Furadonin is recommended - 50-100 mg once a day, preferably before bedtime.
The duration of such therapy is determined by the doctor. As a rule, prevention lasts from 3 to 12 months. In addition to drug therapy, it is important to follow basic rules of personal hygiene and adhere to a gentle diet. This can significantly reduce the risk of recurrence of the infection.
Furadonin for cystitis in women
Inflammation of the bladder is most often diagnosed in women. The prevalence of cystitis is explained by their anatomical features. Women have shorter urinary tracts than men, and the opening of the canal is located near the anus, which leads to bacteria entering the urethra. The disease is also closely associated with hormonal changes in the female body.
Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and other medications are used for treatment. If the inflammation is caused by an infection, antimicrobial agents are used. Furadonin belongs to this category of drugs. It has bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties. It is effective for acute and chronic cystitis. As a rule, women are prescribed 100-150 mg 3-4 times a day for 5-7 days. The drug can also be used to prevent inflammation.
Furadonin for cystitis in men
The prevalence of cystitis among men is much lower than among women. Patients over 40 years of age often face inflammation of the bladder. The disease can be caused by urological problems, that is, it can develop after inflammatory or infectious diseases.
Taking medications is a mandatory component of therapy and is practically no different from the treatment of women. Furadonin is effective in cystitis caused by pathogenic microorganisms: gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic bacteria.
The tablets are taken orally. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the characteristics of the disease. If the inflammation is uncomplicated, then 100-150 mg is prescribed 3-4 times a day for 5-10 days. Relief of the painful condition is observed on the 2-3 day of treatment.
Furadonin for children with cystitis
Treatment of cystitis in pediatric practice has a number of difficulties, since many effective drugs are contraindicated. As for Furadonin, its use for children under 12 years of age should be justified by strict indications. The drug is prohibited for babies under 1 month of age.
The dosage for patients under 12 years old is calculated at 5-7 mg/kg per day. The daily dose is divided into 4 equal doses. For children over 12 years old – 100 mg 2-3 times per day. The duration of treatment is 5-7 days.

Use Furadonin for cystitis during pregnancy
The use of nitrofuran derivatives is contraindicated for the treatment of pregnant women in the early stages of gestation. Despite the fact that Furadonin is a drug with low toxicity, its active substance penetrates the placental barrier and can have a toxic effect on the fetus. This is dangerous due to intrauterine mutations and other fetal developmental disorders.
The drug is permitted from the second trimester and in very small doses - 0.1-0.5 mg 3-4 times a day. When using the drug during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued, since the active substances penetrate into breast milk. The decision on the advisability of using an antimicrobial agent should be made by the attending physician, taking into account the expected therapeutic effect for the woman and the risks for the child.
Contraindications
Furadonin is prohibited to use in case of individual intolerance to its active components and other nitrofurans. Also, the drug is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Chronic renal failure.
- Chronic heart failure stage II-III.
- Cirrhosis.
- Chronic hepatitis.
- Acute porphyria.
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
Pulmonary fibrosis. - Pyelonephritis.
- Oliguria.
- Anuria.
- Chronic hepatitis.
- Neuritis and polyneuropathy.
The drug is not used for treatment during pregnancy and lactation. It is also prohibited for patients on hemodialysis and for children under 1 month of age.
Side effects Furadonin for cystitis
Failure to follow the recommendations for taking the medicine is dangerous due to the development of various types of side effects. The antimicrobial agent can cause the following symptoms:
- Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
- Nervous system: headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, increased intracranial pressure.
- Immune system: hypersensitivity reactions and autoimmune reactions.
- Respiratory system: chest pain, shortness of breath, fever.
- Liver and biliary tract: cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis.
- Skin and blood vessels: hyperemia, rashes, itching, angioedema, inflammation of the salivary glands.
- Hematopoietic and lymphatic systems: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia.
Most often, side effects develop when the dosage and duration of therapy are not followed. The appearance of the above symptoms requires a doctor's consultation and temporary refusal to take the pills.
Overdose
Long-term use of the drug or exceeding the dose prescribed by the doctor is dangerous due to the development of side effects. Most often, an overdose is manifested by the following symptoms:
- Nausea.
- Vomit.
- Headache and dizziness.
- Polyneuritis.
- Skin allergic reactions.
There is no specific antidote. For treatment, it is recommended to take large volumes of liquid to speed up the elimination of the drug. You should also take enterosorbents, antihistamines, and group B drugs. In particularly severe cases, gastric lavage or hemodialysis is necessary.
Interactions with other drugs
Very often, a complex of different medications is used to treat bladder inflammation, which complement each other and eliminate the cause of the disease. When drawing up a treatment plan, the possibility of interaction of all drugs and the risk of developing side effects are taken into account.
When using Furadonin, its compatibility with the following drugs should be taken into account:
- Antacids and nalidixic acid preparations reduce the antibacterial effect of the drug.
- Incompatible with fluoroquinolones, as they block tubular secretion, reducing the concentration of nitrofurantoin in the urine and reducing its therapeutic effect. At the same time, the toxicity of the drug increases.
- Uricosuric agents increase the concentration of nitrofurantoin in the blood by disrupting its excretion. This reduces the antimicrobial effect of the drug and increases its toxicity.
- Interaction with contraceptives leads to a decrease in the contraceptive effect.
- Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors significantly reduce the antibacterial activity of the drug.
- The antibacterial effect of nitrofurantoin is reduced in alkaline urine, so it should not be combined with agents that increase urine pH.
- When used simultaneously with penicillins and cephalosporins, the antibacterial effect of all drugs increases. Interacts well with tetracycline and erythromycin.
During treatment, it is prohibited to consume any alcoholic beverages, as they increase the manifestation of side effects and reduce the effectiveness of nitrofurantoin.

Shelf life
According to the instructions for use, the shelf life of the antimicrobial agent is 60 months (5 years) from the date of its production. After this period, Furadonin should be disposed of. An expired drug is prohibited for use as it can cause uncontrolled side effects.
Reviews
Many patients taking Furadonin for cystitis leave positive reviews about this drug. The drug has a relatively low cost, but effectively copes with inflammation caused by pathogenic microorganisms. It is also noted that increased doses of the drug and its long-term use cause side effects from the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain) and the nervous system.
