Tizine contains the element tetrizoline, which is a sympathomimetic that has a direct stimulating effect on the α-adrenergic receptors of the sympathetic NA. At the same time, it has little or no effect on β-adrenergic receptors.

After getting tetrizoline on the nasal mucosa, as a sympathomimetic amine, it demonstrates anti-edematous and vasoconstrictor activity, due to which the small arterioles of the nasal passages are narrowed, secretion decreases and the swelling of the nasal mucosa is weakened.

Indications Tizine

It is used to eliminate signs of pharyngitis , runny nose, hay fever and sinusitis , and in addition to weaken the swelling of the nasal mucosa during diagnostic procedures.

Release form

The release of the drug substance is realized in the form of nasal drops (0.05% or 0.1%), inside vials equipped with a pipette with a capacity of 10 ml. Inside the pack - 1 such bottle.

Pharmacodynamics

The vasoconstrictor effect of tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride (tetrizoline), as well as a decrease in the swelling of the nasal mucosa under its influence, develops approximately after 1 minute from the moment of using the drug, and lasts for a period of 4-8 hours.

After local use, tetrizoline is almost not absorbed, although systemic absorption in persons with damaged epithelium and mucous membranes should not be excluded.

Dosing and administration

Tizine 0.1% is used in the amount of 2-4 drops - to be instilled into each of the nostrils.

Children's drug (0.05%) is used for children aged 2-6 years - 2-3 drops, 3-4 times a day.

You need to use the medicine as needed, but a maximum of 1 time per 4-hour interval.

It is allowed to bury the medication with a long period of time, because its effect often lasts quite a long time (up to 8 hours). When using drugs before bedtime, a restful sleep is provided for the whole night, without additional administration of drops. The drug does not lead to insomnia by central stimulation.

It is forbidden to use Tizin for more than 5 days, except for situations when the doctor considers it necessary to take longer treatment. It is allowed to use the medication again only after several days.

When instilling drops, the head should be tilted back a little.

  • Application for children

The drug in 0.1% form is not used in children under 6 years of age. Drops with a volume of 0.05% are not used in children under 2 years of age.

Use Tizine during pregnancy

Due to the risk of developing systemic negative manifestations, Tizin during pregnancy or HS is prescribed only after a careful study of the benefits and possible negative effects of the drug.

Contraindications

The main contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to the elements of the medication;
  • dry form of the common cold;
  • glaucoma (especially of the angle-closure type).

Side effects Tizine

Among the side symptoms:

  • hyperemia of the reactive type and a burning sensation in the mucous membrane;
  • chronic form of mucosal edema in the case of prolonged treatment;
  • sometimes systemic signs appear (headaches, sweating, tachycardia, tremors, increased blood pressure and weakness).

With excessively frequent and prolonged use of the drug in large portions, repeated swelling of the nasal mucosa may develop.

Overdose

Signs of intoxication include nausea, pulmonary edema, mydriasis, muscle twitching and fever, and in addition, arrhythmia, cyanosis, mental disorders, increased blood pressure, asystole and respiratory dysfunction.

Sometimes, with excessive absorption of imidazole derivatives by α-sympathomimetics, it is possible to suppress the action of the central nervous system, in which bradycardia, apnea, drowsiness, coma and shock-like hypotension develop, and in addition, the temperature decreases.

There is no antidote to tetrizoline. The use of stimulating substances is prohibited. Despite the fact that the manifestations of an overdose of a medication are quite dangerous, they often proceed easily, with a quick recovery. If required, oxygen, activated charcoal and gastric lavage can be used, and the fever can be treated and anticonvulsants are used.

To reduce blood pressure, 5 mg of phentolamine (dissolved in an electrolyte isotonic fluid) is injected at a low speed. Also, this substance can be taken orally in a portion of 0.1 g. It is forbidden to use vasoconstrictors for hypotension.

If anticholinergic symptoms are noted, physostigmine is used as an antidote.

Interactions with other drugs

The combination of Tizine with tricyclics or MAOIs can provoke an increase in blood pressure values, which is associated with the vasoconstrictor effect of the drug.

Storage conditions

Tizine should be kept out of the reach of small children. Temperature values - no more than 25 ° С.

Shelf life

Tizine is allowed to be used within a 5-year term from the date of sale of the medicinal product.
