Urological drug Tamsulosin.
Release form
Tamsulosin is produced in the form of capsules, which are characterized by a modified release. The capsules are yellow-green in color, and also have small light inclusions.
The cardboard pack contains three blister plates, 10 capsules in each plate.
The active medicinal component of the drug is tamsulosin. One capsule contains 0.4 mg of the active component.
Pharmacodynamics
The medicinal property of tamsulosin is explained by selective competitive connection with postsynaptic alpha 1a -adrenoreceptors. The connection provokes a decrease in the tone of smooth muscle fibers of the prostate, the neck of the bladder and the prostatic part of the urethra, as well as an improvement in the passage of urinary fluid.
After taking Tamsulosin, the signs of compression and irritation of the urethra, which were caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, are relieved. The drug does not lead to a significant decrease in blood pressure in men with stable cardiovascular indicators.
Pharmacokinetics
The active component Tamsulosin is well absorbed in the intestinal cavity. Absorption may be slowed down if the medicine is taken on a full stomach. For uniform release of the active component, it is recommended to take Tamsulosin every morning after eating a meal.
The drug Tamsulosin belongs to substances with linear kinetic properties. The maximum content of the drug in the bloodstream is observed six hours after the standard intake of Tamsulosin. The balanced state is detected on the fifth day of treatment, with the maximum content in the blood serum being 2/3 higher than after the first dose.
The amount of tamsulosin in the blood serum may vary in different patients - this applies to both the first dose taken and further long-term use.
The binding to plasma proteins reaches 99%. The distribution volume is relatively small and is about 0.2 l/kg.
Metabolic processes after taking Tamsulosin occur in the liver: metabolites with less pharmacological activity are formed.
Metabolic products and tamsulosin are excreted mainly in urine (about 9% in unchanged form).
The half-life of the drug Tamsulosin can be about ten hours.
Dosing and administration
Typically, adult patients should take one capsule of Tamsulosin every morning, after the morning meal.
The medicine Tamsulosin is swallowed whole, in no case crushing the capsule. It is recommended to wash down the medicine with half a glass of water or a dairy product.
Use Tamsulosin during pregnancy
Tamsulosin is not intended for use by women. This drug is intended exclusively for the treatment of urological disorders in male patients.
Contraindications
Tamsulosin should not be prescribed:
- in case of hypersensitivity to the drug;
- for orthostatic hypertension;
- in severe liver dysfunction;
- female patients;
- in childhood.
Side effects Tamsulosin
Among the side effects when taking Tamsulosin, the most common are:
- dizziness, headache;
- increased heart rate.
Less frequently, other unpleasant symptoms are observed:
- runny nose;
- indigestion;
- allergic reaction;
- ejaculation disorders, asthenia.
There have been isolated cases of iris instability during cataract surgery (in patients who have been treated with Tamsulosin for a long time).
Overdose
To date, there have been no cases of overdose with Tamsulosin. However, there is theoretically a possibility of a sharp drop in blood pressure readings.
If this has happened, then it is necessary to direct treatment actions towards restoring the functioning of the cardiovascular system.
To normalize blood pressure and cardiac activity, the patient must be placed in a horizontal position. If necessary, it is worth giving injections of vasoconstrictors, as well as solutions to restore the volume of circulating blood. Kidney function is monitored at the same time.
Hemodialysis is considered ineffective in case of excessive intake of Tamsulosin.
If a large amount of Tamsulosin was taken relatively recently, then vomiting should be induced in the patient. You can wash the stomach and intestines, use laxatives, activated carbon.

Interactions with other drugs
Concomitant administration of Tamsulosin and Nifedipine, Enalapril and Atenolol does not lead to drug interactions.
Taking Tamsulosin and Cimetidine may lead to a slight increase in the level of Tamsulosin in the blood serum. A decrease in the content of Tamsulosin is observed when taken together with Furosemide.
The free fraction of the drug Tamsulosin in the blood serum does not change under the influence of Diazepam, Diclofenac, Warfarin, Propranolol, Simvastatin, etc.
No drug interactions with Salbutamol, Finasteride, Amitriptyline were detected.
