Restoration of vaginal microflora is usually carried out using vaginal suppositories. Such preparations are no less effective than tablets and contain the same components (but in lower concentrations). Suppositories for restoring microflora act locally, therefore they provide a faster therapeutic effect.

Release form

The most popular suppositories for restoring vaginal flora are Bifidumbacterin, Ginoflor, Lactocide, Atsilakt, Lactozhinal, etc.

Suppositories with lactobacilli to normalize microflora

Suppositories with lactobacilli are used as a preventive measure for gynecological diseases that develop as a result of vaginal microflora disorders. These medications have a positive effect on local immunity. Research results have shown that such suppositories are useful for HIV prevention, as they help activate the defenses of the cells most vulnerable to this infection, and also normalize the vaginal pH level.

Suppositories with lactobacilli eliminate itching, discomfort and dryness in the vagina that occur during pregnancy or as a result of frequent douching. By eliminating pathogenic organisms, they promote rapid recovery.

If the patient has bacterial vaginosis that developed as a result of stress, immune system disorder, hormonal imbalance or taking antibiotics, she may be prescribed suppositories with lactobacilli (such as Lactobacterin or Laktonorm). These drugs stabilize the microflora, replenishing the lack of beneficial microorganisms that died under the negative influence of external irritants.

The properties of suppositories for restoring microflora are discussed using the example of the preparations Acylact and Ginoflor.

Pharmacodynamics

Acilact has a strong antagonistic activity against opportunistic and pathogenic bacteria - these are intestinal bacteria (enteropathogenic), staphylococci, and also Proteus. Such medicinal action helps to restore the bacteriocenosis of female genitalia.

Pharmacokinetics

After insertion of the suppository into the vagina, the effect of estriol and dry bacteria begins. A study on the absorption of estriol from the drug was conducted in postmenopausal women. With repeated insertion of the suppository, the concentration of estriol in the plasma was equal to the same indicator of internal unbound estriol. After 12 days of using Gynoflor (1 suppository per day), the maximum saturation of unbound estriol in the blood plasma was the same as the initial figures. This indicates that there is no systemic absorption of the drug.

The use of these suppositories does not affect the concentration of the sex hormones estradiol and estrone in the blood plasma, since estriol itself is the end product of the metabolic process of these substances.

Dosing and administration

Bifidumbacterin suppositories should be inserted into the vagina 2-3 times a day. The duration of the treatment course depends on how the microflora changes. On average, it lasts about 7-10 days.

Gynoflor is inserted deep into the vagina from a lying position with slightly bent knees. It is recommended to perform the procedure before bedtime. To stabilize the vaginal microflora after complex or local use of various antimicrobial drugs or antibiotics, it is necessary to insert 1-2 suppositories daily for 6-12 days.

Suppositories Laktozhinal for stabilization of vaginal microflora after the process of treatment of bacterial vaginosis are used in the following dosage - 2 suppositories daily (morning and evening) for 7 days or 1 suppository per day for 14 days (this method is usually used by patients who have recently undergone antibacterial treatment).

Lactobacterin is used to stabilize the microflora after eliminating thrush - 1 suppository twice a day should be administered for at least 10 days. A repeated course should be carried out for 3-4 months, taking breaks of 10-20 days.

Use suppositories to restore the microflora during pregnancy

Imbalance of vaginal flora often accompanies pregnant women, and the process of treating this problem in this case should be approached with special care, since many medications cannot be used in this situation. But at the same time, infectious diseases should be treated quickly, since they can negatively affect pregnancy and the fetus.

Now the pharmaceutical industry produces new drugs (in the form of suppositories) that help restore vaginal microflora, which are completely safe for both the health of the mother and the health of her baby. Terzhinan, Nystatin, and Polygynax suppositories are suitable for pregnant women. Clindamycin can be prescribed with some precautions. Such drugs as Bifidumbacterin and Lactobacterin help restore the balance of beneficial bacteria.

Contraindications

Suppositories are contraindicated in the following cases:

  • In case of individual hypersensitivity to the active drugs of the medicine;
  • In case of estrogen-dependent malignant tumors in the uterus, breast, vagina or ovaries (already diagnosed, present in the anamnesis, or if there is a suspicion of them);
  • Endometriosis (if suspected or already diagnosed);
  • For vaginal bleeding of unknown origin;
  • For girls who have not yet started having sex;
  • For untreated endometrial hyperplasia.

Interactions with other drugs

Atsilakt suppositories are approved for use in combination with antiviral, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory drugs. Taking this drug together with intravaginal antibiotics is not recommended.

Since lactobacilli acidophilus are easily affected by most antibacterial drugs (both systemic and local), their combined use can significantly reduce the effectiveness of Gynoflor suppositories. This medication should also not be used together with spermicidal drugs.
