Indications Sodium thiosulfate
It is used as an antidote in cases of poisoning with salts of elements such as As with I, Hg and Br, as well as Pb, and also in cases of intoxication with hydrocyanic acid or cyanides.
In addition, the drug is used to eliminate scabies, SLE, arthritis with neuralgia, and allergic pathologies.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug forms harmless compounds for humans, possessing weak toxicity, with the following elements: halogens, cyanides, and in addition, salts of heavy metals. For medicinal purposes, a solution of this substance is used as an antidote to phenols, I, aniline, Hg, mercuric chloride, Cr, hydrocyanic acid, and benzene.
As a result of intoxication with compounds of the elements Pb or Hg or As, non-toxic sulfites are formed. If intoxication with hydrocyanic acid or its salts occurs, the detoxification process is carried out by removing cyanide. This element, with the participation of the enzyme rhodonase (which has the maximum effect inside the liver), is converted into a relatively non-toxic component, thiocyanate ion.
The body can eliminate the dangerous effects of cyanide on its own, but natural detoxification is an extremely slow process, so the rhodonase system is not active enough to perform detoxification in the case of cyanide intoxication.
To activate the rhodonase response, it is necessary to introduce external sulfur donors into the body (sodium thiosulfate is also among them).
The anti-scabies effect of the drug is achieved due to the fact that sodium thiosulfate, being in an acidic environment, can disintegrate, forming sulfur with sulfur dioxide. Both of these components have a destructive effect on both adult scabies mites and their eggs.
Dosing and administration
The medicine is administered intravenously and can also be used orally and externally.
External treatment is used to treat scabies. To do this, use a 60% solution, which is used to treat the skin on the body and limbs. After it dries, the treated areas must be moistened using a 6% solution of hydrochloric acid.
Oral and intravenous use of drugs is prescribed for the detoxification procedure in case of poisoning.
The drug is administered intravenously in the form of a 30% solution. The portion size ranges from 5 to 50 ml. The dose depends on the type of substance that caused the intoxication, as well as on the severity of the poisoning.
Orally, a 10% solution is required. A single dose is 2-3 g of the substance.
Use of drugs in gynecological diseases.
To eliminate gynecological disorders, the drug is often used as an auxiliary element, complementing the main therapy.
Intravenous injections of the solution are used as part of treatment programs for endocrine infertility. In this case, the patient is injected with actovegin intramuscularly, and plasmapheresis is also used, as well as transorbital electrophoresis with niacin.
To remove a cyst inside the ovary, the medicine is used in combination with Vishnevsky liniment, and in addition, dimexide or diclofenac.
During the treatment of genital tuberculosis, the drug becomes a component of non-specific treatment: a woman should use enzyme agents (lidase or ronidase), sodium thiosulfate, and antioxidants (tocopherol). The drug is administered intravenously in a dose of 10 ml every other day. During the entire therapeutic course, 40-50 infusions of the solution should be made.
Sometimes the medicine is also used in the form of special microclysters. There are doctors who recommend using this method to eliminate adhesions in the pelvic area, as well as for inflammation of the reproductive organs.
The procedure is performed using a 10% solution. A single dose is 30-50 ml. Before introducing the medicine into the anus, the solution should be heated in a water bath - it should reach 37-40ºC. It should be taken into account that this is not a cleansing enema, so it is necessary for the substance to be completely absorbed inside through the intestinal mucosa.
Application of the solution for the treatment of psoriasis.
This course of medication lasts for 5-12 days. The daily dose is 10-20 ml (a more precise figure depends on the patient's weight and tolerance to the drug).
Before use, dilute the solution in plain water (100 ml). To remove the unpleasant taste of the medicine, you can add a little lemon juice to the solution. It is better to drink the drug at night, before going to bed. If a strong laxative effect is observed, the dosage should be reduced to 10 ml/day.
Oral administration of sodium thiosulfate.
Oral administration is intended to cleanse the lymph with blood flow. Thanks to this procedure, the general health, nails with skin and hair improve. In addition, the drug helps to eliminate depression and many allergic symptoms.
To cleanse the body, you should drink the solution in a 0.5 ampoule portion for 10 days. The medicine should be dissolved in plain water (100 ml).
The first dose should be taken before breakfast (0.5-1 hour), and the second – before dinner (also 0.5-1 hour or 2 hours after it).
Use Sodium thiosulfate during pregnancy
The drug may be prescribed to pregnant women only if there are vital indications. Animal tests for the effect of the drug on reproductive activity have not been performed.
There is currently no information on whether sodium thiosulfate can cause adverse effects on the embryo if used during pregnancy. There is also no information on whether it has a negative effect on human reproductive capacity.
Contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of this drug is intolerance to its active ingredient.

Interactions with other drugs
The combination of the drug with drugs whose metabolism involves the process of thiocyanate formation can cause a decrease in the effect of the latter.
Medicines that belong to the iodide or bromide group, when used in combination with sodium thiosulfate, are not able to exert their medicinal effect.
It is prohibited to mix sodium thiosulfate, as well as nitrite and nitrate solutions, in the same syringe.

Reviews
Sodium thiosulfate, used for intravenous injections, receives positive reviews - it is considered extremely effective in cases of intoxication, as well as in eliminating alcohol addiction.
People who use the solution to treat psoriasis, to eliminate gynecological diseases and allergic pathologies also speak positively about the medicine.
Also, on forums, there are often messages about the effectiveness of using LS as a good method for losing weight, as well as for completely cleansing the body. But at the same time, reviews from people who used the drug for these purposes show that this method does not bring any special results.
