Many of those who care about the "cleanliness" of their body have probably encountered a drug such as "Sodium thiosulfate". And it does not matter whether this is related to the treatment of some disease or this is how ordinary care for one's health manifests itself. The main thing is that this drug, despite its relatively low price, is highly effective, giving the body the strength to resist diseases. And perhaps that is why more and more doctors are inclined to use this "cleansing" agent in the fight against difficult-to-treat pathologies. Thus, sodium thiosulfate for psoriasis is able to mobilize the body's defenses in such a way that such a strange disease in understanding the causes and methods of treatment, frightened by such a confrontation, retreats, giving patients a chance for a healthy life.
Indications of sodium thiosulfate for psoriasis.
There are many diseases and pathological conditions in nature, in which the action of slags and toxins accumulated inside the body significantly slows down the recovery process, not allowing this very body to fight the disease on its own. But it has been proven that we are able to defeat many diseases without resorting to medication. But the main condition for this is a strong immune system, which is the guardian of our health.
It is also a well-known fact that most diseases are simply a consequence of reduced immunity. The disease can hide in the body for years without showing itself, but as soon as the immune system fails, an attack on various body systems begins.
But often we ourselves become the culprits of our troubles, not caring about timely cleansing ourselves from within, and this becomes one of the reasons that with age we have more and more diseases. True, this state of affairs does not mean that young people are not susceptible to diseases due to good immunity. Poor ecology and food saturated with "chemicals", constant stress can undermine the immunity even of a child, constantly poisoning the fragile organism. And this once again speaks in favor of its cleansing.
Sodium thiosulfate is deservedly considered one of the safe and effective means for cleansing the body of intoxication and strengthening its defenses, which has recently been increasingly used for psoriasis. But it is not so easy to cope with this non-infectious, practically incurable disease with a vague etiology. Even temporary relief, which is very valuable for such patients, is achieved with difficulty as a result of multifaceted treatment using internal (systemic) and external agents, despite the fact that almost all manifestations are visible on the surface of the body.
Indications for the use of sodium thiosulfate in psoriasis are the appearance of the first signs of the disease, which indicate that the patient's body's defenses are weakened and the disease is actively advancing. Such signs, indicating the development of an early stage of psoriasis, include the appearance of unusual pink seals on the skin, which, according to medical terminology, are called papules. They can most often be found on the edge of the hair in the head area or in the area of the joints on the arms and legs.
Yes, these manifestations are similar to a common allergic reaction in the form of a virtually painless and almost non-itchy rash. However, an experienced dermatologist will be able to quickly recognize the disease by examining and scraping the papules, which subsequently transform into unaesthetic psoriatic plaques scattered over the body and limbs, which also visibly itch and flake, causing patients a lot of discomfort.
But all of the above does not mean that the use of sodium thiosulfate makes sense only at an early stage of the disease. It helps to significantly alleviate the condition of patients with psoriasis even in advanced cases, performing a "dry cleaning" of the entire body both inside and outside, being a kind of filter for blood, lymph, interstitial and intercellular fluids. Even if it is impossible to cure psoriasis, which is a chronic disease with seasonal exacerbations, with the help of sodium trisulfate, but stable remission in this pathology is already a great achievement.
By the way, psoriasis is not the only indication for the use of this interesting drug. It is useful wherever additional measures to cleanse the body are required to improve the patient's condition and improve the absorption of medicinal forms during the treatment of diseases. Sodium trisulfate has proven itself in the complex treatment of such diseases as asthma, arthritis, neuralgia, tuberculosis. It helps to relieve symptoms in the following pathologies: atherosclerosis, cholecystitis, osteochondrosis, etc.
Sodium thiosulfate has also proven itself in the treatment of allergies, various ulcers and purulent wounds, scabies. It can be used to reduce cravings for alcohol, as well as restore the structure of nails and hair. Sodium thiosulfate has also become widespread in the field of health and beauty of the female body, i.e. in gynecology (health of the reproductive system), cosmetology (clean skin) and dietetics (slim figure).
And, of course, the drug is truly an emergency aid for poisoning, conducting a deep cleansing of virtually all fluids in the body, and accordingly, the tissues that they nourish. Moreover, its effectiveness as an inexpensive but very effective antidote has been proven even in severe poisoning with iodine, bromine, mercury, lead, as well as hydrocyanic acid and cyanides.

Release form
When it comes to the chemical element called "sodium", many immediately think of salt. Perhaps because it is this element that gives the compound NaCl such a unique taste. Sodium thiosulfate is something else, although in appearance (transparent crystals or granules) it resembles the well-known salt. Like table salt, sodium thiosulfate is odorless, and its taste is salty with a pronounced bitterness.
Sodium thiosulfate crystals can be dissolved in water without any problems, but they are not affected by alcohol, remaining virtually in their original form. If the powder is placed in an acidic environment, a decomposition reaction occurs with the release of sulfur.
Sodium thiosulfate is obtained as a result of the reaction of sodium and salts of thiosulfuric acid (thiosulfates). It is the latter that determine the remarkable antitoxic properties of the drug.
Sodium thiosulfate release forms:
- a fine crystalline powder that is usually diluted in water 1:1,
- solution for external use with 60% sodium thiosulfate content,
- 30% solution used for intravenous injection.
The 30% solution is the most convenient to use, as it is used both for injections and for internal use in a diluted form. It is this form of sodium thiosulfate that is most often used for psoriasis.
Pharmacodynamics
Sodium thiosulfate is highly valued for its detoxifying properties, but this does not mean that the benefits of the drug are limited to them. For example, the use of sodium thiosulfate in psoriasis, in addition to the antitoxic effect, is also due to the noticeable anti-inflammatory property of the drug, as well as the ability to relieve unpleasant sensations in the form of itching, and it is a pity that its use during pregnancy and lactation is unacceptable due to insufficient research in this area.
By the way, the antipruritic effect of the drug is due to the reaction of sodium thiosulfate with acid, resulting in the formation of sulfur, which has a detrimental effect on microorganisms that cause itching.
Due to its desensitizing effect, sodium trisulfate reduces the body's sensitivity to foreign substances entering the body, which is very valuable in the treatment of allergies. And the antipruritic effect of sodium thiosulfate is very useful here, as well as in psoriasis.
The antiparasitic or otherwise antimicrobial property of the drug is useful in the treatment of ulcers and purulent wounds. It is especially effective in the treatment of staphylococcal infections.
Pharmacokinetics
When sodium thiosulfate enters the body in various ways, it immediately begins to cleanse the body. When administered by injection, the solution immediately begins to cleanse the blood and lymph, and when taken orally, it first carries out its work in the gastrointestinal tract, where toxic substances from food, medicines, again from the blood and lymph, and, finally, the body's waste products "flow".
Sulfur molecules, which are part of thiosulfates, are able to bind toxic substances and heavy metals and remove them through the intestines, while simultaneously restoring the body's tissues.
Sodium thiosulfate helps speed up the process of removing harmful substances from the body due to its inherent laxative effect. Positively affecting intestinal peristalsis and loosening stool, the drug normalizes the functioning of the entire body, and in particular the digestive organs.
Among other things, sodium thiosulfate, being a non-toxic substance, does not allow toxins that have entered from the outside or formed during life to quickly penetrate from the intestines into the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, poisoning it from the inside.
Sodium thiosulfate is excreted unchanged from the body via the kidneys. The half-life of the drug is less than an hour.
Dosing and administration
Although almost all psoriasis symptoms are visible to the naked eye and are on the surface, it is necessary to influence them both from the outside and from the inside. For local treatment of psoriatic plaques, a 60% solution intended for external use only is perfect. The best effect is achieved by compresses or lotions with sodium thiosulfate, which should be done 2 to 3 times a day.
To cleanse the body of waste and toxins in order to increase the body's resistance to psoriasis, sodium thiosulfate is administered orally in two ways: by intravenous injection or orally.
The method of administration and dosage of sodium trisulfate for internal use in psoriasis are determined by the attending physician, based on the severity of the condition, age, weight and other characteristics of the patient.
Sodium thiosulfate is prescribed intravenously for psoriasis only in severe cases or if oral administration does not produce the desired effect. A 30% sterile solution is intended for intravenous injections, which is packaged in transparent glass ampoules of 10 ml. The injection route of administration gives quick results, but you need to be able to calculate the dose and give injections correctly, so such manipulations are carried out mainly in a hospital as prescribed by a doctor.
In psoriasis, the speed of action is not as important as, for example, in case of poisoning with toxic substances, so it is more convenient to use a solution of sodium thiosulfate for internal use by swallowing. It can be prepared from powder, but at home it is more convenient to use a ready-made solution in ampoules, as with intravenous injections.
But you need to know how to drink sodium trisulfate for psoriasis correctly, so as to both weaken the disease and not harm yourself. A sick person, tormented by psoriasis, is often ready to do anything to get rid of the hated plaques as soon as possible. But in medicine, “more” does not mean “better and faster”, this is a direct path to an overdose and even greater problems. True, in the case of sodium thiosulfate, there have been no reported cases of overdose. But this is not a reason to test its possibility on yourself.
The solution from the ampoules cannot be taken orally in its pure form. An effective but safe concentration of the drug is achieved if the contents of 1-2 ampoules (10-20 mg depending on the patient's weight) are dissolved in a glass of water. The resulting solution is enough for 1 day of treatment. It is recommended to take half a glass on an "empty" stomach in the morning, and leave the second for dinner. It is better to drink the medicine at least half an hour before meals or a couple of hours after a meal.
The course of treatment depends on the patient's body and the extent to which the disease has affected the body. Sometimes a 5-day course is enough, in other cases the treatment may last up to 12 days.

Contraindications
According to the instructions for the drug, therapy with it is not carried out in patients with increased sensitivity to the components of the solution. No other contraindications to the use of sodium thiosulfate have been noted.
True, there is a note that no studies have been conducted on pregnant or breastfeeding women. There is no such practice with regard to animals. It remains unknown whether sodium thiosulfate can in any way affect the development of the fetus or the course of pregnancy, and whether it will harm a baby who is fed with mother's milk.
The drug is completely excreted by the kidneys, which may indicate that it should be taken with caution by patients with severe renal dysfunction, a tendency to edema, as well as hypertension and some other heart diseases.
Side effects of sodium thiosulfate for psoriasis.
Taking sodium thiosulfate for psoriasis may be accompanied by allergic reactions due to poor tolerance of the drug. With large daily doses (20 ml), there is a noticeable loosening of the stool, which can also be considered a side effect of the drug. Normalization of the consistency and frequency of bowel movements occurs when the daily dose is reduced to 10 ml.
Changes in the color and smell of feces are not a reason to stop the drug or adjust the dose. These are manifestations of the normal biological process of cleansing the body of toxins, which patients observe at the exit.

Interactions with other drugs
Since sodium thiosulfate is a full-fledged drug capable of reacting, when prescribing it, it is necessary to take into account drug interactions with other drugs. It is not recommended to use sodium thiosulfate in parallel with drugs related to bromides and iodides, since it significantly weakens the effectiveness of the latter.
Caution should be exercised when administering sodium thiosulfate and nitrates or nitrites together, which often occurs in cases of severe intoxication. These drugs should be administered separately, without mixing the solutions in the same syringe.
Storage conditions
By observing the storage conditions of the drug, you protect your health and ensure the safety of your family.
[ 16 ]
Shelf life
Sodium thiosulfate has a fairly long shelf life. The drug is considered a "long-liver" with a shelf life of 5 years. But in order for the medicine to remain effective and not spoil during this entire period, it must be stored at a temperature no higher than 20 degrees in a place where bright sunlight and curious children have no access.
Doctors' reviews
The effectiveness of sodium thiosulfate for psoriasis during the expiration date is confirmed by doctors' reviews. In their opinion, it is impossible to cure this unusual chronic disease completely with this remedy. And scientists have not yet found such an effective remedy that would help get rid of psoriasis forever. But the drug is just capable of bringing about the onset of remission and prolonging its course. Doctors who use sodium thiosulfate to treat patients with psoriasis note that an improvement in the patients' condition is observed after 3 days from the start of treatment, and after a week, most of them have almost clear skin.
