Alcoholism is one of those diseases that are rarely recognized by the patients themselves. And if a person does not believe that he is sick, then he refuses to be treated, although the situation with the craving for alcohol is gradually becoming more catastrophic. The fight against the green serpent falls entirely on the shoulders of the relatives and close people of the alcoholic. Popular drunkenness is not one century old and at all times they have tried to fight it in one way or another. Hellebore water for alcoholism is not a novelty. This medicine is the experience of our ancestors, dressed in a modern scientific shell.

Indications for use

This product is obtained by infusing roots and rhizomes in 70% medical alcohol (ethanol), after which they are diluted in a 1: 1 ratio with purified water. As the name suggests, hellebore water comes to pharmacy shelves in the form of solutions suitable for external use. This is a yellowish-brown liquid, slightly cloudy, sedimentary deposits may be observed.

Main indications for use:

  • Pediculosis is a parasitic infection of the skin and scalp.
  • Parasitic disease of the pubis.

But as already noted above, hellebore water for alcoholism is not a myth, it is reality.

Pharmacodynamics

But to be sure of the effectiveness of any pharmacological agent, it is necessary to know the mechanism of its effect on the body. The studied pharmacodynamics allows us to understand the degree of influence and the effectiveness of the final result.

Lobelia (Cherataria lobeliana) is a fairly poisonous substance, especially its roots. Therefore, the easy availability of this drug in any pharmacy is somewhat surprising (the drug is sold without a prescription). But such availability is explained by the fact that the drug in question is intended for external use, so it is unlikely that someone unfamiliar with its properties would think of consuming this drug internally.

The pharmaceutical industry produces hellebore water as an anti-pediculosis (antiparasitic) agent. The solution shows a high neurotoxic effect on adult lice.

All components of this plant contain alkaloids that belong to the class of glycoalkaloids or cyclopentane perhydrophenanthrenes. These compounds are natural poisons that have characteristics of both pure alkaloids and steroid saponins. Their percentage is especially high in the roots of this plant, which belongs to the lily family – up to 2.4%. At the same time, this indicator can vary: in the summer it is lower, while in the spring it shows maximum figures, which makes the plant most dangerous during this period.

In medical practice, medicines from the chokeberry are used as a highly effective solution in the fight against ectoparasites, that is, those microscopic parasitic organisms that settle on the human skin, usually in the hairy part.

Studies have shown a high anti-scab effect of the drug. In veterinary medicine, decoctions of this plant are used as a means of inducing vomiting or normalizing the digestive process (depending on the administered dose and concentration).

As observations have shown, taking the drug helps to reduce blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic) with a parallel increase in the intensity of heart contractions. Tincture of the kukolnik can provoke coughing and sneezing attacks.

This drug, when taken orally, can cause bradycardia, an increase in the cross-sectional area of blood vessels, briefly reducing blood flow volumes.

Hellebore water for alcoholism reduces the level of excitability of the vasomotor center and inhibits the pressoreceptors of the carotid sinus.

But the mass use of the alkaloids of the puppeteer is not allowed due to their high toxicity. Therefore, medicines based on them are used only for external treatment.

Preparations based on the components of this plant stimulate the activity and tone of skeletal muscles, have a stimulating effect on the patient's nerve receptors, relieve pain symptoms in various types of neuralgia, arthritis, rheumatism, myositis, and so on.

When rubbed into the scalp, it eliminates dandruff and stimulates hair growth.

Despite the ban, hellebore water is used for alcoholism. This method of fighting the green snake has been known since ancient times. The essence of this method is based on the pharmacodynamics of hellebore water for alcoholism, which, when taken orally, causes severe intoxication. To do this, the drug, without the patient's knowledge, is added to an alcoholic drink. As a result of a person's alcohol intake, he is poisoned, which over time forms a persistent rejection of the "fiery liquid".

The alkaloids nervin, protoveratrine and others, which are part of the herb, initially stimulate the receptors of the central nervous system, after which they rapidly suppress them, which leads to the appearance of negative symptoms. These are the following manifestations:

  • The appearance of a strong gag reflex.
  • Signs of diarrhea (loose stools).
  • Weakness throughout the body.
  • Deterioration of general condition.
  • Increased muscle tone, turning into spasms.
  • The appearance of tachycardia, acute heart failure.

Pharmacokinetics

Such a patient is subject to immediate hospitalization (in one hundred percent of cases). Without medical care, which is provided only in a hospital setting, the human body is not able to cope with this situation on its own.

This method of treatment is designed to ensure that, having suffered from severe poisoning, which only doctors were able to cope with, a patient suffering from alcoholism will refuse further consumption of strong drinks.

But doctors are skeptical about the method in question, warning that the human body may simply not cope. And such treatment can end in the death of the patient.

Method of application and dosage of hellebore water for alcoholism

If we consider the drug from the point of view of taking hellebore water for alcoholism, then in this case we are talking about oral administration of herbal tincture. It is easy to prepare at home. To do this, you need:

  • Purchase the roots and rhizomes of the plant, dry and grind them.
  • Pour one teaspoon into a quarter glass of just boiled water.
  • Let it brew for about an hour.
  • Then strain the mixture.
  • After this, top up to the original volume by adding approximately 50 ml of boiling water.
  • Store the prepared medicine in the refrigerator or any other cool place.
  • The resulting product can be stored for no more than five days.

But if you don't want to bother with the preparation, you can opt for ready-made hellebore water for alcoholism, which can be purchased at any pharmacy. The instructions attached to the tincture indicate that this is a remedy for external use, but it is its toxicity that is the focus.

The method of application and doses of the added medicine are simple. The liquid should be mixed into all non-alcoholic drinks during the period when the drinker takes alcohol.

The treatment procedure should be started with two drops two to three times a day. Subsequently, if positive dynamics are not observed, this dosage can be increased, but this should be done gradually and in small additions (one drop at a time). The volumes of the administered medicine should be within reasonable limits (not exceeding 15 drops).

After taking the drug, the alcoholic's body is subjected to severe intoxication, muscle tissues are cramped. This is the reaction that "doctors" are counting on. The patient believes that this condition happened to him precisely because of the alcohol he drank. The essence of the method is the incompatibility of the components of this infusion with any alcohol.

At the same time, the drug has neither taste nor smell, which makes its presence in the drink unnoticeable. Poisoning occurs only when alcohol enters the human body, which gives the patient reason to think that intoxication is the result of taking "fire water".

When first confronted with this reaction of the body, an alcoholic may attribute it to a poor-quality drink. However, after some time, he will have to be convinced that this is the result of alcohol consumption. The craving for alcohol will weaken, and the desire to drink will gradually pass.

During the “course of treatment,” the drinker develops a persistent aversion to alcohol and its smell (as a response of the body – the appearance of nausea and vomiting).

If a person does not drink on any of the days, then there is no point in adding more tincture. This will allow the correct laxative-vomiting reflex to develop.

If the increased dosage is still ineffective, treatment should be stopped and a specialist should be consulted.

Contraindications for use

It should be noted once again that taking the drug internally is dangerous for any person. But there are also official contraindications to the use of hellebore water for alcoholism if the patient's medical history includes:

  • A woman is pregnant or breastfeeding her newborn baby.
  • The presence of damage to the skin and infection of wounds (with external use). Prolonged rubbing of the solution in question into the skin can also cause signs of intoxication, since its components are able to penetrate into deep tissue structures.
  • Young age of the child up to 2.5 years (this does not apply to alcoholism, but is a contraindication even for external use).

Side effects

Quite rarely, but the use of hellebore water for alcoholism can provoke side effects that can be expressed as:

The occurrence of an allergic reaction:

  • Itching and burning.
  • Hives.
  • Erythema.
  • The appearance of a tingling sensation over the entire surface of the skin.
  • Intense painful spasms in the head area.
  • The occurrence of painful symptoms in the epigastric region.
  • Increased excitability.
  • Problems with hearing and vision.
  • A variety of disorders in the functioning of the digestive organs.
  • Loss of consciousness.

Symptoms of Overdose of Hellebore Water

But it is worth remembering that such a load on the body is dangerous. It is unlikely that you will be able to manage without the help of a doctor in the matter of stopping the consequences of intoxication. With such treatment, there is a high probability of developing serious complications with the patient's health. The combination of these factors can even cause a fatal outcome.

Therefore, it is necessary to use the drug with strict adherence to the dosage. If it is violated, an overdose of the drug is possible, which leads to major health problems for the person using the drug.

As studies have shown, when hellebore water for alcoholism is ingested directly into the stomach, 1 g of the drug is enough to cause death.

In case of long-term treatment or uncontrolled increase in dosage, the human body will respond:

  • Severe nausea and diffuse vomiting.
  • A sharp drop in blood pressure, which can lead to collapse.
  • Weakness and cramps in muscle tissue.
  • Increased volume of saliva and sweat secreted.
  • All the signs of diarrhea.
  • Asthmatic breathing.
  • Paleness of the skin.
  • Bradycardia (decreased heart rate).
  • By constricting the pupils.
  • Depression of cardiac muscle function.
  • Strong thirst.
  • If large amounts of alkaloids enter the circulatory system, taking the drug can lead to cardiac arrest.

It is for this reason that representatives of medical circles are categorically against the use of tincture of the green snake in the treatment of patients with an addiction to the green snake.

When the first signs of poisoning appear, it is necessary to provide the person with first aid and call an ambulance.

  • First, it is necessary to wash the stomach. It is advisable to do this with a tannin solution.
  • At the same time, give the victim any sorbent orally. For example, it could be activated carbon.
  • In case of damage to the mucous membrane, spraying with a 2% solution of novocaine is used.
  • It is possible to use a laxative (for example, saline).

If we analyze the relief measures, we can conclude that we cannot do without the help of a doctor, since the treatment is very specific.

The doctor will add medications that will support the work of the heart (intravenous 0.1% atropine solution), take care of the restoration of water-salt balance, support the digestive tract and cardiovascular system.

Interactions with other drugs

In order not to harm the body, before taking any drug, it is necessary to clearly understand how the medicine will behave when taken together with drugs of other groups. To date, interactions with other drugs of hellebore water for alcoholism have not been observed.

Storage conditions

In order not to lose high pharmacological characteristics, the drug in question must be stored in appropriate conditions. Storage conditions for hellebore water for alcoholism require:

  • The solution should be kept in a glass container with darkened glass.
  • The room temperature should not exceed 20°C.
  • Protect from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
  • The tincture should be kept, as a poisonous substance, in a place that is out of the reach of small children.

Best before date

It is also necessary to adhere to the terms of effective work. The shelf life of a factory drug is two years from the date of manufacture. The date of manufacture and end of use is necessarily reflected on the packaging of the drug.

When making a medicinal tincture at home on your own and meeting all storage requirements, the shelf life of such a medicine is only five days.

Hellebore water for alcoholism is quite effective, but at the same time very dangerous. When using it, it is advisable to adhere to all precautions, especially in the administered dosage. During the "treatment" period, it is worth paying special attention to the condition of the "patient" and at the slightest exit of the situation from under control, or a significant deterioration in the health of the patient, it is necessary to immediately call an ambulance.
