Setegis has an α-adrenolytic effect.

The drug helps block the activity of α1-adrenoreceptors located inside the smooth muscles of the prostate, some part of the urethra, and also the neck of the bladder; as a result, there is a decrease in resistance relative to the urinary flow and an improvement in the overall urodynamics in people who suffer from prostate adenoma. At the same time, the drug does not affect the size of the prostate.

Indications Setegis

It is used in the following situations:

  • combination therapy for prostate adenoma;
  • reduction of elevated blood pressure (in combination with other medications or as a monotherapeutic agent).

Release form

The release of the therapeutic component is realized in tablets of 1, as well as 2 or 5 mg. There are 10 tablets inside the cell plate; there are 3 such plates in the box.

Pharmacodynamics

The basis of the hypotensive effect of the drug is the expansion of arterioles with venules. The drug reduces the post- and preload in relation to the heart muscle, reduces the values of blood pressure and total peripheral vascular resistance, and in addition, reduces the return of venous blood to the heart.

The maximum therapeutic effect of the drug is observed after 2-3 hours after its oral use and continues for 24 hours. The drug has almost no effect on the rate of CF, renal perfusion and cardiac output. With prolonged use of the substance, reflex tachycardia does not develop. When used in medicinal doses, terazosin reduces the overall level of blood cholesterol by 2-5%.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is rapidly and almost completely absorbed within the gastrointestinal tract; absorption is not dependent on food intake.

Terazosin bioavailability values are about 90%. The drug is 95% synthesized with blood protein. Blood Cmax values for oral administration are noted after 1 hour.

Excretion occurs through the kidneys and intestines.

Dosing and administration

The tablet must be swallowed whole, without chewing. In case of therapy with increased blood pressure values, the dose of the drug is selected individually, taking into account the blood pressure level.

The initial dosage is 1 mg; the medicine should be taken in the evening, before going to bed. Since there is a possibility of a strong decrease in blood pressure after taking the first dose, the initial dosage must not be exceeded. Later, the daily dose is gradually increased until normal blood pressure is reached. The dose is approximately doubled at 5-7-day intervals.

The maintenance dosage in case of increased blood pressure values is 2-10 mg per day (1-time intake). Subsequent increase in the daily dose does not increase the drug effectiveness.

In case of prostate adenoma, it is necessary to use 5-10 mg of the medicine once a day. Since dosages higher than 10 mg per day do not bring the required result, they are not used.
