In modern society, where women are so concerned with their appearance that they forget about their true purpose and the need to take care of their health, there is always room for inexplicable and sometimes rather stupid facts. Just such an “indigestible” fact can be considered the use of non-specific means, such as, for example, “Senade” for weight loss for a long time, adhering to the instructions for the treatment of chronic constipation. To what extent this is advisable, we will discuss in our article.
Indications Senade for weight loss
In order to understand where the wind is blowing from, it would be necessary to understand what this “miracle remedy” with an unusual name is, to read the reviews of those who have lost weight and doctors, as well as the results of the correct and incorrect use of the remedy, so actively used for the purpose of weight loss.
So, let's start with the fact that "Senade" is not a weight loss product by its vocation. It has a completely different task. The drug is designed to improve bowel function and facilitate the passage of feces.
The indications for the use of the drug "Senade" do not indicate its use for weight loss and weight correction in obesity. The use of the drug is justified only in the following cases:
- if the patient suffers from constipation caused by weak intestinal motility, when the walls of this organ contract very sluggishly, not facilitating the movement of feces to the anus,
- if the process of defecation is complicated by certain pathologies, in which hard stool can cause pain or even complications of the disease, as happens with proctitis, hemorrhoids, cracks in the anal area, ulcerative colitis and some other conditions (for example, periods after surgery or childbirth).
The medicine "Senade" has only one form of release - tablets based on a plant extract of brown color with small inclusions. The raw material for the tablets were the leaves of a plant from the legume family, popularly known as senna or cassia (hence such a peculiar name of the drug). And the whole point is that this plant is considered the strongest laxative, which has no analogues in its effectiveness.

Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacodynamics of the drug "Senade" is due to the laxative effect of senna. Senna raw materials contain glycosides A and B, which pass through the stomach and small intestine, practically unchanged. But getting into the large intestine, they are broken down by intestinal bacteria. As a result, compounds (antrones and anthronols) are formed, which have an irritating effect on the receptors located on the walls of the large intestine, causing active contraction of the intestinal muscles.
In addition, anthrones and anthronols are able to prevent the absorption of liquids (water and electrolytes), and also stimulate the penetration of water molecules into the intestinal lumen. Due to this action, feces soften and their volume increases.
Thus, due to the dual action of senna leaves, intestinal peristalsis is improved and the passage of feces is facilitated. At the same time, the drug "Senade", used by some people for weight loss, promotes deep cleansing of the intestines from stagnant feces and harmful substances formed as a result of stagnation.
Pharmacokinetics
Despite all its effectiveness, the drug does not have an enviable speed of action. The result of its work can be seen 8 or even 10 hours after taking the pills, which, however, is very convenient: take the medicine at night and experience the desired relief in the morning. The drug is excreted from the body partly by the kidneys, but mainly through the intestines.
Dosing and administration
To begin with, let's consider the method of application and dosage of the drug "Senade", which will be effective both for the treatment of constipation and for weight loss, if you can call it that. As already mentioned in passing, it is advisable to take the drug in the evening before going to bed, so that in the morning you can easily get rid of excesses, which, along with feces, include harmful toxins and "ingrained" slags.
The tablet is swallowed whole with a glass of water or any other liquid. The dose is selected individually. Adults should start with 1 tablet, but if the result is negative, the dosage can be doubled or tripled (2-3 tablets).
The dosage for children (6 to 12 years) is half that of adults. The initial dose is half a tablet, the maximum is 2 tablets.
The peculiarity of taking the drug is that, starting with the minimum dose, after a few days it will need to be increased by half a tablet. And so on until the dose is maximum. If therapy with the maximum dose of the drug for 3 days does not lead to bowel movement, a repeated consultation with a specialist doctor (therapist or proctologist) is required.

Use Senade for weight loss during pregnancy
The use of "Senade" during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not prohibited by the instructions for the drug developed by the manufacturer, but still, special care must be taken when treating the drug during this period. However, this condition also applies to patients with kidney and liver diseases, as well as those who have recently undergone abdominal surgery.
Contraindications
No one will argue with the statement that constipation is not only unpleasant, but also dangerous to health. Stagnant feces pollute and poison our body with toxic substances. It would seem that there is a way out, the drug "Senade" will easily solve this problem. But everything is not so simple.
The thing is that such an unpleasant phenomenon as constipation can have various causes. If we are talking about atony of the large intestine, the consequence of which is low peristalsis and constipation, taking Senade will be just right. But if constipation is caused by spasms of the smooth muscles of the intestine (spastic constipation), laxatives are unlikely to help, rather they will even harm, increasing motility and provoking new painful spasms. For this reason, it is not recommended to take such drugs before an accurate diagnosis is made.
Stimulation of intestinal peristalsis may also be dangerous in the case of intestinal obstruction, even if the passage of the food bolus is only partially obstructed, incomprehensible pain in the gastrointestinal tract, acute inflammatory processes localized in the abdominal cavity, in particular with peritonitis, uterine bleeding, and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
Contraindications to the use of the drug are also: cystitis, strangulated hernia, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. "Senade" is not used for constipation or weight loss if the patient has been diagnosed with a violation of water-electrolyte metabolism, as well as if he is under 6 years old.

Side effects Senade for weight loss
The drug "Senade" belongs to the group of herbal preparations with rare side effects, which are observed mainly due to non-compliance with the rules for taking the drug. If all precautions are observed, but side effects make themselves known, it is better to stop taking the drug for a while until consulting a doctor, who will either adjust the dosage or prescribe another drug.
So, what side effects can be observed when taking Senade for weight loss or treatment (prevention) of constipation:
- The digestive system may react to the drug intake with flatulence, accompanied by severe bloating and intestinal spasms. If the drug is used for a long time or in large doses, nausea may occur, often accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases, melanin deposition on the inner walls of the intestine.
- the urinary system, with long-term treatment with large doses of the drug, in turn, can express its “dissatisfaction” with symptoms such as an increase in the concentration of protein in the urine (albuminuria), a change in the color of the urine and the appearance of blood in it (hematuria).
- The effect of "Senade" for constipation and weight loss on the central nervous system can be observed in the form of increased fatigue, and in some cases, convulsions and confusion. This is the result of a violation of water-electrolyte metabolism due to incorrect therapy with the drug.
- The cardiovascular system may respond to prolonged drug therapy with cardiac collapse.
Taking the drug against the background of hypersensitivity to its components may be accompanied by a response of the immune system in the form of allergic reactions (skin rashes); in rare cases, anaphylactic shock or Quincke's edema is observed, which requires the intervention of a medical specialist.
If Senade is taken for a long time, there is a high risk of developing a potassium deficiency in the body (hypokalemia), which will remind you of itself with muscle weakness and muscle cramps. Due to the above circumstances, it is not recommended to use Senade for more than 14 days.

Overdose
Further increase in the dose of the drug "Senade", used both to improve bowel function and for weight loss, can lead to the phenomenon of overdose, which manifests itself in the form of diarrhea, which entails dehydration of the body. In this case, it is recommended to cancel the drug and drink more fluids to relieve the symptoms of dehydration. Sometimes, for this purpose, it is even necessary to resort to intravenous administration of plasma substitutes.
Interactions with other drugs
Any medical preparations, even herbal medicines, can react with various components of other medicines, as a result of which the effect of both drugs can either increase or decrease. And in some cases, the simultaneous use of incompatible drugs can lead to tragic consequences.
It is for this reason that for the effective and safe use of various drugs, it is always necessary to take into account the drug interaction with other drugs, which is necessarily described in the instructions for the drugs. And "Senade" for bowel cleansing and weight loss is no exception.
Since Senade acts primarily on the intestines, increasing the oscillatory movements of its walls and causing symptomatic diarrhea, and most drug forms begin to be absorbed and act there, there is a high probability that the drugs will not achieve their intended purpose, their effect will be significantly weakened due to low absorption in the intestines.
If the drug is taken in parallel with licorice root-based products, thiazide diuretics or glucocorticosteroids (GCS), the risk of hypokalemia increases significantly. Therefore, these drugs are not prescribed simultaneously.
Again, long-term use of significant doses of the drug "Senade" can provoke an increase in the action of cardiac glycosides and an indirect effect on the pharmacodynamics of antiarrhythmic drugs, which is associated with a high probability of developing hypokalemia.

Storage conditions
But it is not only drug interactions that affect the effectiveness and safety of drug therapy. Compliance with storage conditions plays a major role in preserving the beneficial properties of drugs.

So what is the grand plan?
As we can see, "Senade" is a common medicine for constipation. So where did the idea of using it for weight loss come from? The situation here is in many ways similar to the appearance of the "famous" worm pills for weight loss. It was noted that a person who has parasites in their body noticeably loses weight. So why not use this fact in the fight for an ideal figure?
In relation to "Senade" for weight loss, the situation was approximately the same. Treatment of constipation is accompanied by thorough cleansing of the intestines from feces, toxins and other harmful substances. This is done for health purposes. But in the matter of losing weight, you can't do without cleansing the gastrointestinal tract, because only in this way can you seriously and permanently normalize your metabolism. Hence the idea of using a laxative for weight loss.
This idea was supported by the understanding that a herbal preparation, which is "Senade", cannot cause serious harm to health, but the benefits from it are obvious. But, carried away by the very idea of a beautiful figure, few people think that any medicine, even the same herbal preparation, has its own contraindications for use, which cannot be ignored.
In addition, having carefully read the instructions for the drug "Senade", you can see that long-term use of the drug (for 2 weeks or more) is fraught with certain health problems even if the problem (constipation or other pathologies in which hard stool is contraindicated) is obvious. And what can we say about daily "preventive" cleansing of the body for several days, supposedly preventing the absorption of fats and carbohydrates, because food passes through the intestines at high speed, without having time to be absorbed (hence the effect of weight loss).
And again, how justified and safe is such a preventive measure? If a person has no problems with stool, the intestines work well, why provoke disruptions in its work? Another matter, if as a result of some measures for weight correction (strict diets, fasting, fasting days) difficulties with defecation appeared. Or the retention of feces in the body is caused by improper nutrition, insufficient amount of fluid entering the body, and a sedentary lifestyle. Then the use of "Senade" is quite justified at the first stage of working on yourself.
It is important to understand that when talking about losing weight with laxatives, it is not the process of losing weight that is meant, but a good bowel cleansing for 1 - maximum 2 days, but not regular intake of the drug for one or two weeks. The method of application and doses in which Senade is taken for weight loss correspond to the therapeutic doses for the corresponding age. For adults, the optimal dosage is 1-2 tablets. The weight that a person loses during the period of preventive cleansing of the gastrointestinal tract is equal to the weight of feces and harmful substances removed from the body during these 1-2 days.
And then the process of losing weight will go on its own, but not without the active participation of the patient. Sitting in a chair with a piece of fatty pork or a high-calorie dessert, it is impossible to lose weight, even if the body is completely cleansed. Proper nutrition plus physical activity are the main conditions for losing weight, and cleansing only helps to start this process.
The effectiveness of "Senade" for weight correction
How effective the drug "Senade" is in the matter of weight loss can be judged by the reviews of those who have lost weight and by their results, which women happily share on the Internet.
Many women are pleased to note a moderate weight loss of 1.5-3.5 kg within 2-3 days of therapy with the drug "Senade". For some, the use of "Senade" for weight loss was accompanied by unpleasant sensations such as bloating, pain and diarrhea. However, most of those who took the drug for 1-3 days note positive results of bowel cleansing: well-being improved, stool normalized, the lost weight did not return later.
All these reviews, no matter how much we would like to think otherwise, only say that "Senade" is an excellent remedy for normalizing bowel function, and the optimization of metabolism and slight weight loss are only useful "side effects" of the drug. This is also evidenced by the reviews of doctors.
Most doctors, by the way, are against such experiments on their bodies, especially those carried out without a doctor's supervision. Some nutritionists, however, note the high efficiency and benefits of the herbal medicine "Senade" for weight correction, again insisting on a short-term (1-2 days) intake of the drug.
Most of the negative reviews about Senada for weight loss are related to long-term use of the drug or excessive doses, as a result of which weight loss was simply unnoticed against the background of the health problems that women earned by thoughtlessly using the drug for other purposes. If you want to avoid problems with the liver, kidneys, stomach, pancreas and other organs and systems of the body, which are mentioned in negative reviews, listen to common sense or at least to the opinion of a nutritionist.
