Salmodil is a drug from the discharge of medicines with anti-asthmatic properties. This syrup, due to the combination of the two main active ingredients in the optimal ratio, bromhexine and salbutamol, combines both the best characteristics of its expectorant effect and produces a pronounced bronchodilator effect.

The first of its main pharmacologically active components - bromhexine is a mucolytic agent that demonstrates its effectiveness in the treatment of respiratory function disorders that are caused by the release of a significant amount of mucus and an excessively viscous texture.

Salbutamol, which is a sympathomimetic synthetic amine, produces a stimulating effect against beta-adrenergic receptors, and promotes better sputum discharge, activates mucus production processes and acts in the bronchi as a stimulant for the functioning of their ciliated epithelium. Salbutamol is able to produce a stimulating effect more on bronchial muscle tissue, uterine and smooth vascular muscles, rather than on cardiac beta receptors.

Due to the fact that Salmodil is presented in the medicinal form of the syrup, it is very convenient and easy to use.

Indications Salmodil

Indications for Salmodil are the prevention of bronchospasm in patients with bronchial asthma. And in cases of its occurrence, the use of the drug is justified as one of the whole complex of medical influences aimed at stopping this condition.

In addition to contributing to the elimination of such a critical condition of the patient and its subsequent normalization, Salmodil can not be assigned the last role insofar as possible in order to prevent the development of prerequisites for the emergence of provocative factors or so-called bronchospasm triggers. Reception of the drug is shown not only in connection with the achievement of favorable conditions, in which the remission of the disease occurs and its symptomatology goes away, but also suggests minimizing the possibility of the appearance of such symptoms in the future.

Disturbances of respiratory functions against the background of bronchial asthma are caused by reversible airway obstruction. This pathological phenomenon is characterized by the appearance of difficulties in the process of forced breathing, and as a result, the forced exhalation slows down. Reversible airway obstruction in addition to the fact that inherent in bronchial asthma is a frequent case also in the chronic stage of bronchitis. Here is another use of Salmodil.

Indications for use Salmodil, therefore, are reduced to the advisability of its use mainly to prevent asthmatic attacks and bronchospasm, as in bronchial asthma, and in chronic bronchitis, as well as to stop them in case of occurrence. Actually, these features and determines the definition of the drug in the category of antiasthmatics.

Release form

The release form of Salmodil is presented as a pleasantly smelling syrup for oral use, having a pink color and having a transparent consistency.

In 5 ml of the drug there is salbutamol (like salbutamol sulfate) - 2 mg, which is equal to 5 milliliters, and in the amount of 4 mg or accordingly also 5 ml - bromhexine in the form of its hydrochloride.

In addition to these two main active ingredients, there are other components: sodium citrate, citric acid monohydrate, aspartame, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, cherry flavor, carmosine E122, menthol, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose E 4 M, purified water.

The syrup is contained in a vial having a volume of 100 ml. The bottle is closed with a screwed metal cover, on top of which is placed a special removable cap made of polyvinylchloride with a graded scale. The purpose of this cap is to act as a measuring container in order to ensure convenient, accurate dispensing of the preparation. 1 line of grading on the cap corresponds to the volume of syrup equal to 2 and a half milliliters.

The bottle is placed in a cardboard box, where together with it the manufacturer puts a folded sheet with instructions for use.

The salmodil release form, which has the appearance of a syrup, promotes the absorption of this drug in the human body and the beginning of its positive action in the short term after adoption.

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacodynamics Salmodil is manifested by the combined pharmacological action of the two main active ingredients in its composition.

The first of these is salbutamol, which is a synthetic sympathomimetic amine with properties of beta-adrenomimetics, as well as producing a tocolytic effect. The effect of salbutamol is to stimulate predominantly beta-adrenergic receptors, and with respect to alpha-adrenergic receptors, its effect is expressed either to a very insignificant degree, or completely without any influence on its part. Salmodil has a similarity to beta adrenergic receptors and, as a result of the increase in enzyme activity, adenyl cyclase promotes stimulation of cyclic adenosine 3 ', 5'-monophosphates - AMP. One of the key features of AMP is that they act as a link in many reactions within the cell. If we compare the effect to cardiac beta-1 receptors with a measure of the effect on the beta-2 receptors of smooth muscle tissue of the vessels, in the bronchi and the uterus, then it should be noted that the stimulating effect of salbutamol has a high degree of severity, mainly in the latter case.

Bromhexine, the second of the main ingredients of the preparation, is a mucolic agent that is properly applied to promote the normalization of respiratory functions, which may be impaired due to the large amount of mucus secreted or its viscous consistency too high.

Pharmacodynamics Salmodil, on the basis of this, allows us to characterize this remedy as a combined preparation with bronchodilator properties, which is demonstrated by salbutamol, as well as by the expectorant effect produced by bromhexine.

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics Salmodil at the present stage of development of medical science is not sufficiently studied.

Dosing and administration

The dosage and dosage of Salmodil vary depending on the age of the patient to whom the drug is administered.

The age of the child, in which the use of this remedy is allowed, must be at least 7 years. 7-year-olds and older are prescribed to take the syrup orally three to four times a day at a dose of 2.5 to 5 milliliters.

Adults should take 3-4 doses of the drug throughout the day in an amount equal to 5-10 ml.

For greater convenience and accuracy of the determination of doses, a gradual gradation is applied to the cap of the vial with Salmodil syrup. One mark is 2.5 ml respectively.

Use Salmodil during pregnancy

The use of salmodil during pregnancy is one of the list of existing contraindications to the use of the drug. In addition, it is recommended to refrain from Salmodil during lactation and lactation.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of salmodil may be of an individual nature and, first of all, are associated with the presence of hypersensitivity or poor tolerance of any of the constituent components of the drug in a particular patient.

Further, the factors that classify salmodil in the category of drugs unacceptable to use are the presence of severe diseases of the cardiovascular system, as well as gastric ulcer. The drug should not be used during pregnancy and during the period during which the baby is breastfed.

In addition, Salmodil is not assigned to children that have not reached the age of 7 years.

In addition, there are a number of clinical cases that do not stipulate a categorical prohibition, but they require careful weighing of the "For" and "Against", and with greater caution to resemble the purpose and use of the drug. This, in particular, glaucoma, peptic ulcer, diabetes mellitus.

Whatever it is, and how many positive feedbacks about the results of use would not have to be met, nevertheless, we should not forget that the rash self-designation of the drug instead of the expected beneficial effect is quite capable of being harmful. One of the reasons for this is often insufficient attention or ignoring the contraindications to use Salmodil.

Side effects Salmodil

Side effects Salmodil manifested in the emergence of all kinds of negative phenomena in an unfavorable combination of circumstances that can develop in connection with the use of the drug.

Often the side effects of Salmodil are expressed in the appearance of tachycardia, pain in the heart, sometimes in the appearance of a tremor.

The result of exposure to the central nervous system is that the person taking the drug may be in a state of increased irritability.

With a negligible frequency, a negative response may occur on the part of the digestive system. So the gastrointestinal tract reacts to the use of salmodil by the appearance of nausea and vomiting.

Overdose

Overdose Salmodil has a symptom similar to that characteristic of poisoning. It is distinguished by the appearance of such negative phenomena as nausea and vomiting.

The therapeutic measures aimed at treatment of overdose are symptomatic and consist in neutralizing the factor of intoxication. For this, first of all, it is necessary to help reduce the concentration and excretion of the substance that has a harmful effect on the body. For this purpose, a patient with an overdose of the drug must take activated charcoal inside, and also he needs to rinse the stomach.
