Rennie is a drug from the antacid category and has an antacid effect.

The drug contains Ca carbonate and Mg carbonate, which provide long-term and rapid neutralization of large volumes of hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice. At the same time, it has protective activity against gastric mucosa. [ 1 ]

The therapeutic effect develops after 3-5 minutes, which is associated with the high rate of dissolution of chewable tablets, as well as high Ca levels.

Indications Rennie

It is used to eliminate symptoms associated with increased gastric pH values, as well as reflux esophagitis (this includes symptoms that arise due to an improper diet, medication use, and abuse of alcohol, nicotine or coffee):

  • pain in the epigastric region that is periodic in nature;
  • stomach fullness or heaviness;
  • dyspepsia or heartburn;
  • belching with a sour taste;
  • dyspeptic disorders in pregnant women.

Release form

The medicinal element is released in tablets - 6 pieces inside a cell plate (2, 4, 8 or 16 plates inside a box) or 12 pieces inside a cell package (1, 2, 3, 4 or 8 packages inside a pack).

Pharmacokinetics

The interaction of the drug with gastric juice leads to the formation of Ca and Mg salts. The intensity of absorption of these salts is determined by the size of the dose of the drug taken. The Cmax absorption values are 10% for Ca and 20% for Mg.

Low amounts of absorbed calcium and magnesium ions are excreted via the kidneys. Within the intestine, soluble derivatives of the drug are transformed into insoluble components excreted in the feces.

Dosing and administration

The tablets of the drug must be chewed or held in the mouth until they are completely dissolved.

The medicine should be taken in a dosage of 1-2 tablets (unless the doctor has prescribed a different treatment regimen). If the medicine needs to be taken again, it can be taken at least 2 hours later.

It is allowed to consume no more than 11 Rennie tablets per day.

  • Application for children

It is prohibited to prescribe to children under 12 years of age.

Use Rennie during pregnancy

Rennie can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding in standard dosages.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • severe renal failure;
  • hypophosphatemia or hypercalcemia;
  • severe sensitivity associated with elements of the drug;
  • nephrocalcinosis;
  • sucrase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption and fructose malabsorption.

Side effects Rennie

Side effects include manifestations of intolerance: rashes, Quincke's edema and anaphylactic symptoms.

Overdose

Long-term use of large doses of the drug in individuals with renal impairment may cause hypermagnesemia or -calcemia, as well as alkalosis, the symptoms of which are nausea, muscle weakness, and vomiting.

If such disorders occur, you should stop taking the medication for a while and consult your doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

The decrease in gastric pH associated with the use of antacids causes a decrease in the intensity and speed of absorption of other drugs used in combination. For this reason, other drugs should be taken 90 minutes before or after Rennie.

Combination with antacids causes a decrease in the absorption of tetracyclines, CG, fluoroquinolones, iron preparations, phosphates, levothyroxine and fluorides.

Administration together with thiazide diuretics requires constant monitoring of blood calcium ion levels.

Storage conditions

Rennie should be stored in a place closed to small children. Temperature values - not higher than 25°C.

Shelf life

Rennie can be used within a 3- or 5-year period from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic substance.

Analogues

Analogues of the drug are Gastal, Almagel, Secrepat forte with Alumag, and Maalox.

Reviews

Rennie receives positive feedback from most patients - the drug copes well with heartburn, dyspeptic symptoms and stomach pain. Another advantage of the drug is that it can be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
