Rennie is a drug from the antacid category and has an antacid effect.

The medication contains Ca carbonate and Mg carbonate, which provide long-term and rapid neutralization of large volumes of hydrochloric acid inside the gastric juice. Along with this, it has a protective activity against gastric mucous membranes. [1]

The therapeutic effect develops after 3-5 minutes, which is associated with the high dissolution rate of chewable tablets, as well as with high Ca values.

Indications Rennie

It is used to eliminate signs associated with increased gastric pH values, as well as with reflux esophagitis (this includes symptoms arising from an improper dietary regimen, the use of medications, as well as the abuse of alcohol, nicotine or coffee):

  • having a periodic nature of pain in the epigastric zone;
  • gastric overcrowding or heaviness ;
  • indigestion or heartburn;
  • belching that has a sour taste;
  • dyspeptic disorders in pregnant women.

Release form

The release of the drug element is made in tablets - 6 pieces inside the cell plate (2, 4, 8 or 16 plates inside the box) or 12 pieces inside the cell package (1, 2, 3, 4 or 8 packages inside the pack).

Pharmacokinetics

The interaction of the drug with gastric juice leads to the formation of Ca and Mg salts. The intensity of absorption of these salts is determined by the size of the received portion of the drug. The Cmax absorption values are 10% for Ca and 20% for Mg.

Low volumes of absorbed calcium and magnesium ions are excreted through the kidneys. Inside the intestine, soluble derivatives of the drug are transformed into insoluble components that are excreted in the feces.

Dosing and administration

The tablets of the drug must be chewed or kept in the mouth until they are completely dissolved.

It is necessary to take the medicine in a dosage of 1-2 tablets (unless the doctor has prescribed a different therapy regimen). If there is a need for repeated drug intake, it can be taken at least after 2 hours.

It is allowed to consume no more than 11 Rennie's tablets per day.

  • Application for children

It is forbidden to appoint children under 12 years of age.

Use Rennie during pregnancy

Rennie can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding in standard dosages.

Contraindications

The main contraindications:

  • severe kidney failure;
  • hypophosphatemia or hypercalcemia;
  • strong sensitivity associated with the elements of the medication;
  • nephrocalcinosis;
  • lack of sucrase, malabsorption of glucose-galactose and malabsorption of fructose.

Side effects Rennie

Of the side signs, manifestations of intolerance are noted: rashes, Quincke's edema and anaphylactic symptoms.

Overdose

Prolonged use of large portions of the medication in persons with renal lesions can provoke the appearance of hypermagnesemia or -calcemia, as well as alkalosis, the symptoms of which are nausea, muscle weakness and vomiting.

With such violations, you need to stop taking the medication for a while and consult with your doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

The decrease in gastric pH values associated with the use of antacids causes a weakening of the absorption rate and a decrease in its rate in other drugs that are used in combination. Because of this, other drugs should be used 90 minutes before or after using Rennie.

The combination with antacids causes a weakening of the absorption of tetracyclines, SG, fluoroquinolones, iron drugs, phosphates, levothyroxine and fluorides.

The introduction together with diuretics of the thiazide subtype requires constant monitoring of the blood parameters of calcium ions.

Storage conditions

Rennie needs to be kept out of the reach of small children. Temperature values - no higher than 25 ° C.

Shelf life

Rennie can be used within a 3 or 5 year term from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic substance.

Analogs

Analogs of the medication are Gastal, Almagel, Sekrepat forte with Alumag, as well as Maalox.

Reviews

Rennie receives positive reviews from most patients - the medication does an excellent job with heartburn, dyspeptic symptoms and stomach pain. Of the advantages of the drug, it is also noted that it can be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
