Panadol Extra is a combined drug that contains caffeine with paracetamol. The medication has analgesic and antipyretic properties.

Indications Panadol Extra

The drug is used to eliminate moderate or moderate intensity pain in patients (they can have different origins):

  • headaches, as well as attacks of severe migraine or migraine-like pain;

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacokinetics

Dosing and administration

Take the medicine you need inside. The tablet should be swallowed whole, without grinding or chewing, while washing with water. A drug like Solyubl needs to be dissolved in a glass with water before use. The duration of the treatment course, as well as the dosage should be selected individually - this is done by the doctor in charge.

For children from 12 years and adults, the dosage is usually 500-1000 mg of the drug (2 tablets) 3-4 times per day with an interval of at least 4 hours. Thus, a day can take no more than 4000 mg (or 8 tablets) of the drug.

Use Panadol Extra during pregnancy

Use Panadol Extra in pregnancy is allowed only if there is an urgent need.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the medication;
  • severe degree of disorder in the liver or kidneys, congenital form of hyperbilirubinemia, as well as a deficiency in the body G6FD.

Side effects Panadol Extra

The medicine is mostly transferred without complications, but in some cases such adverse reactions can be observed:

Overdose

Owing to an overdose of the drug, its hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic properties may manifest, and in addition to this, symptoms of disorders in the functioning of the hematopoietic system (anemia and agranulocytosis, and in addition thrombocyto-, pancito-, neutro- and leukopenia), as well as CNS (tremor, problems with day regimen (wakefulness / sleep), increased excitability, dizziness). Interactions with other drugs

It is forbidden to combine the drug with MAO inhibitors, β-adrenoreceptor blockers, and tricyclics. The interval between the course of treatment with Panadol Extra and the use of drugs from the category of MAO inhibitors should be at least 2 weeks.

In the case of drug combination with domperidone, as well as metoclopramide, the rate of absorption of paracetamol is increased. And when combined with cholestyramine - on the contrary decreases.

Due to the combination with warfarin and other anticoagulants of the coumarin series, the risk of bleeding increases.

As a result of simultaneous reception with barbiturates, the antipyretic properties of paracetamol are reduced.

Isoniazid, inducers of microsomal enzymes, and in addition hepatotoxic drugs increase the toxic effect of paracetamol on liver function.

In the case of the combination of Panadol Extra with diuretic drugs, the effectiveness of the latter is weakened.

It is forbidden to combine medicine with medications containing ethanol, and in addition to alcohol.

Caffeine contained in the drug enhances the properties of α- and β-adrenomimetics, and in addition to xanthine and drugs that have a simulating effect on the central nervous system.

Due to simultaneous use with oral contraceptives, cimetidine, and also isoniazid, the medicinal properties of caffeine are enhanced.

In combination with caffeine, the effect of drugs, suppressing the function of the central nervous system, is reduced.

Caffeine increases the concentration in the blood of lithium, increases the medicinal effect of thyrotropic drugs, and besides it increases the rate of absorption of ergotamine in the digestive tract.
