Palprostes is a drug that regulates the functions of the male genitourinary system. ATC code G04C X02. Other trade names: Prostaplant, Prostaker, Unoprost, etc.

Indications Palprostes

Indications for the use of Palprostes are: prostatitis, prostate adenoma (I and II degrees), as well as functional urination disorders in men associated with an enlarged prostate gland.

Release form

Release form: soft capsules of 320 mg.

Pharmacodynamics

The pharmacodynamics of Palprostes is based on the action of the active substance of the drug - an extract from the fruits of one of the species of fan palms of the genus Sabal - the finely serrated palm Sabal Serrulata.

The extract's phytosterols affect the metabolism of the endogenous male hormone testosterone. By blocking the human steroidogenesis enzyme, 5-alpha-reductase, the process of testosterone biotransformation into dihydrotestosterone, a powerful stimulator of prostate cell proliferation, slows down. In addition, by activating the enzyme 3α-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase, which regulates the metabolism of dihydrotestosterone, its level in the prostate tissues decreases. This does not reduce the pathological growth of the prostate, but significantly alleviates the symptoms associated with its hyperplasia.

The probable (not clinically proven) ability of Palprotes to reduce the intensity of the inflammatory process in the prostate and relieve swelling of its tissues is associated with the inhibitory effect of the biologically active components of the drug on the enzymes cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase, which are catalysts for the synthesis of inflammation mediators (prostaglandins).

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, the extract contained in Palprostes is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is observed approximately 90 minutes after taking the drug.

Dosing and administration

Palprostes is taken orally - one capsule once a day (at the same time, after meals). The capsule should be swallowed whole with liquid.
