Pharmacodynamics
At the basis of the pharmacodynamics of Palprostes is the action of the active substance of the preparation - an extract from the fruits of one of the species of fan palm trees of the genus Sabal - a small-billed palm Sabal Serrulata.
Phytosterols extracts affect the metabolism of the endogenous male hormone testosterone. As a result of blocking the enzyme of human steroidogenesis - 5-alpha-reductase - the process of biotransformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone - a powerful stimulator of proliferation of prostate cells - is slowing down. In addition, by activating the enzyme 3α-hydroxysteroid-oxidoreductase, which regulates the metabolism of dihydrotestosterone, its level in the tissues of the prostate gland decreases. This does not reduce the pathological proliferation of the prostate, but greatly alleviates the symptoms associated with its hyperplasia.
The probable (clinically unproven) ability of Palprotes to reduce the intensity of the inflammatory process in the prostate and to remove the swelling of its tissues is associated with the inhibitory effect of the biologically active components of the drug on cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes, which are catalysts for the synthesis of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins).
