Padevix is recommended for the treatment of colds or flu. The drug has two active ingredients: dextromethorphan and paracetamol.
Paracetamol – has an analgesic effect, reduces temperature, alleviates the condition during fever, has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. Dextromethorphan – an antitussive.
Release form
Padevix is available as effervescent tablets that dissolve in water. The tablets are flat, cylindrical, white with a dividing line, and have a lemon-orange scent.
Pharmacodynamics
Padevix is a combination drug that effectively helps to cope with cold symptoms. One of the main components of the drug, paracetamol, reduces temperature, eliminates fever, helps to cope with muscle pain, joint pain, headaches that often occur with flu. Dextromethorphan helps to cope with dry cough, suppressing the corresponding centers in the brain, it also helps to reduce the excitability of the cough center.
Pharmacokinetics
Paracetamol, which is one of the main active ingredients of Padevix, is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. After taking the drug, the maximum concentration is observed in the blood after 15-50 minutes. The distribution of the drug in tissues occurs evenly, binding to plasma proteins is weak. Paracetamol is excreted by the kidneys, the half-life of the substance in the body is observed from one to three hours. The drug is completely excreted from the body within 24 hours.
Dextromethorphan is the second active substance, also well absorbed in the digestive system, and is excreted unchanged and as metabolites by the kidneys.
Dosing and administration
Padevix is intended for internal use. The drug is taken once a day, 30 ml, preferably before bedtime. If there is renal or hepatic insufficiency, it is necessary to reduce the recommended dose. The course of treatment with Padevix is 3-4 days, it is not recommended to exceed the duration of treatment without the advice of a specialist.

Use Padevix during pregnancy
Padevix is not used during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, and the drug is contraindicated during breastfeeding. In the second and third trimesters, the drug is used with caution, only as prescribed by a specialist, when the expected therapeutic effect outweighs the possible risks to the fetus.
Contraindications
Padevix is not used in cases of hypersensitivity to some components of the drug, severe forms of renal and hepatic insufficiency, bronchial asthma, blood diseases, respiratory depression, some forms of bronchitis (obstructive, chronic, etc.), pneumonia, epilepsy, under the age of 16 years.
The drug should be used with caution in cases of cough with an abundance of sputum, some congenital hyperbilirubinemia, and the simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Side effects Padevix
Taking Padevix may cause a strong feeling of fatigue, dizziness, nausea or vomiting. All these sensations disappear immediately after stopping taking the drug.
In some cases, drug dependence and reddening of the skin may develop (allergic reactions occur extremely rarely). Also, after taking the drug, a violation of the hematopoietic function is possible (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, etc.).
In patients with a predisposition to bronchospasms, hypersensitivity reactions to the drug are possible (shortness of breath, sweating, angioedema, decreased blood pressure, shock).

Overdose
In case of overdose, Padevix causes an increased feeling of excitement, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, increased heart rate, increased muscle tone, respiratory depression, and impaired coordination of voluntary muscles.
Increased doses of paracetamol cause intoxication of the body. Liver cell necrosis leads to dysfunction, including coma (even death is possible). There is also a risk of necrosis of the renal tubules, which can lead to the death of the patient. Overdose symptoms on the first day are nausea, heavy sweating, general malaise. The next day, there is some improvement in well-being, mild abdominal pain. The liver increases in size, bilirubin activity increases, the daily amount of urine decreases. On the third day, yellowing of the skin appears, blood clotting functions are impaired, blood sugar decreases, and hepatic coma occurs.
In case of an overdose of the drug, gastric lavage is necessary in the first six hours, followed by symptomatic treatment, administration of SH-group donors, dialysis (removal of end products of metabolism and excess fluid from the body).
Interactions with other drugs
Padevix, when taken simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and other drugs that depress the central nervous system, increases their toxicity and therapeutic effect.
Drugs that stimulate microsomal oxidation in the liver (rifampicin, ethanol, classical antidepressants, etc.) can lead to severe intoxication even with a minor overdose of paracetamol.
Taking paracetamol together with zidovudine increases the risk of developing neutropenia (a disease in which the number of cells in the blood that destroy foreign bacteria in the body decreases).
Myelotoxic drugs increase the likelihood of hematopoietic dysfunction.
When taken with anticoagulants, strict medical supervision is required.
The elimination of chloramphenicol is slowed when taken with paracetamol.
