Oxycort is a combined drug for external use. It contains two pharmacologically active substances. These are the antibiotic oxytetracycline and the glucocorticosteroid hydrocortisone. The drug has found wide application in the fight against skin bacterial infections that were aggravated by an allergic component.
Indications Oxycort
Indications for use of Oxycort are infectious diseases of the skin. But this is far from the entire "spectrum" of this drug. Basically, it fights microorganisms that are sensitive to oxytetracycline. Most often, these are staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. Against their background, allergic reactions can develop, such as pyoderma and bullous dermatitis in newborns.
The product fights exfoliative dermatitis of newborns, folliculitis, furunculosis, carbunculosis, allergic dermatoses. The medicine can eliminate first- and second-degree burns, varicose ulcers in the shin area, frostbite and the effects of insect bites.
You can take the medicine either as recommended by your doctor or on your own. The main thing is to follow the instructions and not exceed the prescribed dosage. In this case, Oxycort will really help, and will not make the situation worse. But a consultation with an experienced specialist is still necessary, especially if we are talking about serious damage to the skin.
Release form
The release form is ointment and aerosol. In both of these variations, the product can be taken externally only. So, the ointment is released in a tube. One gram contains 30 mg of oxytetracycline and 10 mg of hydrocortisone. The tube contains 10 grams of ointment. It is placed in a cardboard package, which also includes instructions.
The aerosol is in a canister, the volume of which is 55 ml. It contains 300 mg of oxytetracycline and 100 mg of hydrocortisone. The canister is equipped with secondary packaging, which is a cardboard box. Naturally, there is an instruction manual for use of the product inside.
Each patient decides for themselves what form to use the product in. The effect is absolutely the same. It is just more convenient for some to use the ointment, for others the aerosol is much better. There is no significant difference in this. Naturally, if there are open wounds on the skin, then regarding the use of one or another form, you need to consult a doctor. Oxycort is a truly effective remedy.
Pharmacodynamics
Pharmacodynamics Oxycort - the main component of the drug is oxytetracycline. This is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is designed to act on pathogenic microorganisms that provoke bacterial infections. Naturally, it copes with its main task perfectly.
The drug's action extends to both gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci, clostridia, listeria) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, shigella, salmonella, neisseria), as well as chlamydia, rickettsia and mycoplasma.
The medicine has a second, no less effective component, hydrocortisone. By the way, it is also an antibiotic. It has an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effect. It is able to stabilize the state of cell membranes. Thus, an obstacle appears to the release of inflammation mediators into the intercellular space. The component does not allow leukocytes and lymphocytes to penetrate into the inflammation site. That is why Oxycort is considered a truly effective remedy.

Pharmacokinetics
The pharmacokinetics of Oxycort have not been fully studied. The main components of the drug are two antibiotics, oxytetracycline and hydrocortisone. Together, these components have a powerful effect on the body as a whole.
They fight infections that affect the skin and completely eliminate them. In particular, oxytetracycline has a great effect on pathogenic microorganisms and thereby completely eliminates them. This reduces the risk of developing a bacterial infection.
The action of hydrocortisone is aimed at relieving inflammation and allergic reactions. The component completely stabilizes the state of cell membranes. Thus, it is possible to create a good barrier to the release of inflammation mediators into the intercellular space. Together, these two components perfectly fight many infectious diseases. Oxycort is the best medicine "in its field". It is widely used in medicine, and it has earned particular popularity, in particular due to its effectiveness.
Dosing and administration
The method of application and dosage are prescribed by the attending physician. Thus, the drug is used exclusively for local application. The medicine is applied to dry affected skin and areas. This should be done in a thin layer, and without rubbing. It is enough to treat the surface 2-3 times a day in order to notice a positive result.
It should be noted that the use of the drug under an occlusive dressing is unacceptable. Treatment should be carried out for 2 weeks without interruption. If the damaged area is on the skin of the face, this period is significantly reduced. No more than one tube should be used per week. An increased dosage can cause the development of side effects, which is extremely unacceptable.
The duration of treatment directly depends on the problem that torments a person. This issue is handled by the attending physician. He conducts an examination, selects the optimal form of the drug and announces the expected duration of treatment. Oxycort is a truly effective drug that can cope with any infection.

Use Oxycort during pregnancy
The use of Oxycort during pregnancy is not excluded. The fact is that this drug is taken exclusively externally, so it cannot have any negative impact on the body of the mother and child.
But, despite this, you should not take it without consulting a doctor. Cases are different and it is quite possible to develop an allergic reaction. This, in turn, can lead to taking other medications that are highly undesirable to use during pregnancy.
If we talk about breastfeeding, then in this case there are no restrictions either. However, if the lesion is on the breast itself, then you should stop breastfeeding. After all, particles of the product can remain on the woman's nipples and thus safely penetrate the baby's body. This is extremely unacceptable! Therefore, during breastfeeding and pregnancy, you cannot resort to self-medication. All this can negatively affect both the health of the woman and the child. After all, Oxycort contains antibiotics.
Contraindications
There are contraindications to the use of Oxycort and they are quite pronounced. Thus, according to the results of many studies, cases have become known in which the drug should not be used under any circumstances. First of all, this is an individual intolerance to the main components of the drug. This can cause a serious allergic reaction on the part of the body.
The product does not help in the presence of a viral infection on the skin. This refers to cases where the nature of the problem is not bacterial. The ointment cannot be used in case of tuberculosis, dermatomycosis, syphilis and the risk of developing or having skin cancer. Naturally, a special place is given to the period of lactation and pregnancy. The medication can be taken only on limited areas of the skin. But it is better to refuse it completely. Children under 2 years of age should be extremely careful when taking it. In all other cases, Oxycort can be safely taken, but you should not do this without consulting a doctor.
Side effects Oxycort
Side effects of Oxycort may occur if a person uses the drug in an overdose. Moreover, unpleasant symptoms may also appear if there is hypersensitivity to some components of the drug. The fact is that not many people try to take the drug according to the instructions. This is why all sorts of negative reactions occur.
The most common symptoms are itching and skin irritation. This is mainly due to intolerance and increased dosage. No special cases of severe side effects have been recorded.
If any symptoms appear, you should seek help from a doctor. He will adjust the dose or stop taking the drug completely. Usually, after finishing the course of treatment with this ointment, all unpleasant symptoms subside on their own. Therefore, you should not worry too much. But if the side effects are strong, further use of Oxycort is questionable.

Overdose
An overdose of the drug is possible, especially if it is used for a long time. Usually, it manifests itself in the form of increased local side effects. Edema, hypertension, hyperglycemia and increased sensitivity to infection are possible.
In case of overdose, it is necessary to stop taking the drug. There is nothing terrible in this phenomenon. But it is worth understanding that an overdose does not just happen. Usually, this phenomenon is preceded by its own factors. Thus, an increased dosage and incorrect use, all this can cause the development of side effects. Moreover, the presence of hypersensitivity to some components of the drug plays a special "danger" in this case. This can enhance the effect and lead to a worsening of the situation.
That is why any drug should be taken after consulting a doctor. It is always worth following the prescribed dosage and not exceeding the duration of treatment. In this case, Oxycort will not cause any harm.
Interactions with other drugs
Oxycort interactions with other drugs are possible. But you need to understand that you cannot use this product with other medications with a similar effect. This can significantly worsen the situation. After all, in this way there is a risk of greatly increasing the dose of some components and thus leading to a reverse reaction.
During treatment, it is recommended to carry out preventive vaccinations. It should be noted that the ointment can enhance the effect of immunosuppressive drugs and inhibit the effect of immunostimulating drugs.
Therefore, taking this medication should be fully agreed with the attending physician. Moreover, if a person takes any other medications aimed at eliminating the infection, this should be mentioned when prescribing treatment. After all, there is always a risk of developing unwanted side effects. Oxycort is far from an exception, so it should be taken strictly according to a certain scheme, in which case no negative reactions from the body will occur.
Storage conditions
The storage conditions of Oxycort must be fully observed. This will allow the medicine to be used for the specified period of time. Thus, the product must be stored in a place inaccessible to children. They will not be able to cause any particular harm to themselves, but if they swallow the ointment, the consequences can really be serious. The aerosol is especially dangerous. It can easily be sprayed, and on the eyes and in the mouth. That is why children should not have access to medicines.
It is also necessary to observe the temperature regime. The optimum temperature is 25 degrees. The product cannot be stored in the refrigerator. It should be a dry and warm place. Humidity and direct sunlight are immediately excluded. Under such conditions, the drug can be used for 2-3 years. Everything depends on the form of release. It is also worth noting the fact that the aerosol should not be affected by high temperatures, because it can easily ignite. Oxycort is not particularly capricious in terms of storage conditions, but they must still be observed.
Special instructions
There are special instructions regarding the intake and "handling" of the drug. Thus, during use, the duration of the course of treatment must be strictly observed. Because exceeding the dose can give the opposite effect, which is extremely unacceptable. Especially if the damaged area is on the face. Here the skin is too tender and sensitive and any influence can, on the contrary, worsen the situation.
It is necessary to note the fact that the antibiotic hydrocortisone significantly reduces the immune function of the body. Therefore, during treatment with this drug, possible vaccination should be completely excluded. It will not have the necessary effect.
There are no special instructions regarding the use of the drug. Naturally, the issue of using medications during pregnancy is especially acute. In this case, everything depends on the damaged area and the characteristics of the body. Taking Oxycort without consulting a doctor is prohibited, it can significantly harm the body, and this is unacceptable.
Shelf life
The shelf life of the medicine is 2-3 years, depending on its form of release. In fact, these are just numbers. You need to pay attention to the appearance of the product and its smell. If these indicators have changed, and the expiration date is still normal, then most likely the storage conditions were not observed. In this case, the product cannot be used.
That is why storage plays a significant role. It is important to observe a special temperature regime, it is enough not to go over 25 degrees Celsius. Some people store ointments in the refrigerator, partly this is correct, but on the other hand, not entirely. There are medications that require such conditions. Therefore, you need to read the instructions more often. Oxycort cannot be stored in the refrigerator.
It is important that the packaging or bottle is not damaged. Such a violation reduces the safety of the drug several times. It cannot be taken after the expiration date. Oxycort can be stored freely for 2-3 years, but special conditions are required for this.
