Omitox is a drug with antiulcer properties.
Indications Omitox
It is used to treat the following disorders:
- various forms of ulcerative diseases;
- gastrinoma;
- NSAID-associated disorders;
- GERD;
- lesions caused by the activity of the microbe Helicobacter pylori.
In addition, the medication is used to prevent the development of gastric pathologies.
Release form
The drug is released in the form of capsules with a volume of 10 or 20 mg. The box contains 30 such capsules.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug slows down the activity of the enzyme H + K + -ATPase inside the gastric parietal glandulocytes, as a result of which the final phase of hydrochloric acid binding is blocked. As a result, the rates of stimulated and basal secretion processes are reduced (it does not matter what the nature of the irritating bacteria is).
When taken once (orally), omeprazole begins to act after 60 minutes, and its effect lasts for 24 hours. The peak of effectiveness is noted after 2 hours from the moment of administration.
After stopping the use of the drug, excretory activity is fully restored after 3-5 days.
Pharmacokinetics
Omitox is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract at a high rate, reaching the plasma Cmax level after 30-60 minutes. Bioavailability values are within 30-40%.
Protein synthesis rates are 90%. Almost all omeprazole undergoes metabolic processes within the liver.
Excretion of the substance occurs in the form of metabolic products, mainly through the kidneys.
Dosing and administration
The selection of the appropriate medicinal dose is carried out exclusively by a medical specialist. The capsules are swallowed whole, washed down with plain water.
During the treatment of an exacerbated intestinal ulcer, the medication is used in a dose of 20 mg with 1-time use per day. The therapy lasts 14 days, but if necessary, the course can be extended for another 14 days.
When treating an aggravated gastric ulcer or esophageal lesion of an inflammatory nature, the drug is taken at 20 mg per day, and this cycle lasts for 1 month.
In case of development of lesions caused by the use of NSAIDs, treatment with 20 mg of the substance per day is also continued for 1 month.
To get rid of the H.pylori microbe, the medication is taken in a dose of 40 mg per day for 7 days. Omitox must be prescribed in combination with antibacterial drugs.
To prevent ulcers, the drug is used in a dose of 10 mg per day. When preventing the development of GERD, the drug is prescribed in a dose of 20 mg per day. The treatment cycle in such cases is 0.5 years.
When treating gastrinoma, the dose is selected for each patient individually, but the course begins with a dosage of 60 mg. If necessary, it is increased to 120 mg. This dose should be taken in 2 doses.
People who have been diagnosed with liver dysfunction can be prescribed a maximum of 20 mg of the substance per day.
