Omezin is a medication used to treat GERD and various ulcerative lesions. It belongs to the category of drugs that slow down the activity of the proton pump.
[ 1 ]
Indications Omezina
It is used to eliminate the following violations:
- ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as GERD;
- functional dyspepsia;
- hyperacid form of gastritis, which has a chronic stage (in the acute phase);
- destruction of H.pylori bacteria (in combination with other antibacterial drugs);
- gastrinoma.
Release form
The drug is released in capsules of 20 mg, 10 pieces per strip. The box contains 1, 3 or 10 such strips.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug has antiulcer and antisecretory properties, slows down the activity of H/K-ATPase (proton pump). It has a blocking effect on the final stage of hydrochloric acid secretion inside the parietal glandulocytes, and in addition, slows down the pentagastrin-stimulated or basal secretion.
Due to the significant and long-lasting reduction in gastric pH, ulcerative lesions heal much faster.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug taken orally is fully and quickly absorbed. About 90-95% of the drug is synthesized in the blood plasma with its protein. The medicinal effect lasts for at least 24 hours.
Excretion of the metabolic products of the substance is carried out through the kidneys.
Dosing and administration
Omezin is prescribed for oral use to adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over:
- for gastric ulcers (Helicobacter pylori bacteria is absent) – take 1 capsule twice a day for 0.5-1.5 months;
- for ulcers in the intestinal area (H.pylori is absent) – use 1 capsule twice a day for 0.5-1 month;
- for the treatment of GERD - take 1 capsule twice a day for 1-2 months. At the same time, maintenance treatment includes taking 1 capsule once a day for 1 year;
- in the chronic stage of hyperacid gastritis (exacerbation phase) – take 1-2 capsules of the drug per day for 2-3 weeks;
- to eliminate functional dyspepsia – take 1-2 capsules per day for 2-3 weeks;
- to destroy the H.pylori bacteria – take 1 capsule twice a day (in combination with antibacterial drugs (such as tetracycline and amoxicillin with metronidazole, clarithromycin and furazolidone), as well as bismuth drugs);
- in gastrinoma therapy - the initial portion size is 3 capsules per day. If necessary, the dosage is increased later. In general, portion sizes are selected for each person individually.

Use Omezina during pregnancy
Omezin is not allowed to be prescribed to pregnant women.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- the presence of severe intolerance to medicinal elements;
- lactation period.
Side effects Omezina
If the medicine is used for a short period of time, side effects develop only occasionally. At the same time, they are often mild and short-lived. Severe forms of disorders are observed only occasionally.
Among the negative reactions:
- skin lesions: occasionally itching or rashes may occur. Alopecia, erythema multiforme or photosensitivity may develop;
- disorders affecting the functioning of the musculoskeletal system: pain in the muscles or joints, as well as muscle weakness, may occur;
- disorders of the PNS or CNS function: headaches. Occasionally, paresthesia, vertigo, insomnia, dizziness and a feeling of drowsiness appear. It is possible to develop hallucinations, a state of depression, a feeling of excitement and treatable confusion;
- problems with digestive activity: constipation, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea. It is possible to develop stomatitis or candidiasis in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as dryness of the oral mucosa;
- liver damage: liver enzyme values occasionally increase. Hepatitis or encephalopathy may develop (if severe forms of liver disease are observed);
- endocrine system disorders: sometimes gynecomastia develops;
- disorders of hematopoietic functions: sometimes thrombocyto-, pancyto- or leukopenia appears, as well as agranulocytosis;
- others: occasionally there is a feeling of general weakness;
- signs of allergy: urticarial rashes occasionally develop. Bronchial spasms, anaphylaxis, angioedema, fever and tubulointerstitial nephritis may occur. Blurred vision, hyperhidrosis and taste disturbances also sometimes develop, peripheral edema appears and the sodium level in the blood decreases.
Overdose
Omeprazole in a 360 mg dose has excellent tolerability. The drug has no antidote, and is excreted weakly by dialysis, because the substance is synthesized with blood plasma protein. Therefore, in case of intoxication, it is necessary to perform gastrointestinal lavage, and in addition to this, carry out supportive and symptomatic measures.
Interactions with other drugs
The drug may interact with medications that are metabolized in the liver with the participation of hemoprotein 450 enzymes. When combined with Omezin, the values of phenytoin, disulfiram, and also aminopyrine with diazepam, warfarin and nifedipine may increase. Usually, if omeprazole is taken in recommended doses, such an increase has no medicinal significance, but it is necessary to monitor the patient's condition at the initial stage of therapy and after its completion, adjusting the dose of the drug if necessary.
The combination of the drug with clarithromycin may lead to a simultaneous increase in their levels in the blood plasma.
Low gastric pH values may alter the absorption of ketoconazole with ampicillin and iron preparations.
The combined use of the drug with amoxicillin, lidocaine, antacids, metoprolol, and also quinidine, theophylline and digoxin does not lead to the development of any significant drug interactions.
Storage conditions
Omezin should be kept in a place protected from sunlight, moisture, and access by small children. Temperature marks – within the range of 8-25°C.
[ 7 ]
Shelf life
Omezin can be used for 3 years from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic agent.
