Release form
Comfrey ointment is produced in the form of an external preparation - a brownish ointment with a specific aroma.
One gram of the drug contains:
- comfrey tincture 0.1 g (in 40% ethyl alcohol);
- oil solution of tocopherol 98%;
- additional substances in the form of petroleum jelly, flavorings, corn oil, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, glycerin, etc.
The ointment is available in a quantity of 40 g in a tube (in a cardboard package) or 25 g or 50 g in a jar (in a cardboard package).
Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacodynamics of Comfrey Ointment is determined by the main components of the product: comfrey components and tocopherol.
The effect of comfrey rhizomes on damaged tissues can be explained by the presence of allantoin in them. This substance is capable of healing wound surfaces, stimulating granulation and regeneration processes in tissues. The drug has the property of dissolving serous and purulent discharge from the wound, tightening ulcer surfaces, for example, in varicose veins.
Comfrey contains a significant amount of enveloping and astringent substances, and thanks to the presence of silicic acid, even very old wound surfaces heal.
The effect of tocopherol is to improve cell nutrition and strengthen their protection from adverse factors.
In general, the drug has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, activates regenerative processes in epithelial and bone tissue, reduces bleeding and accelerates recovery and restoration of damaged tissues.
Dosing and administration
Adults and children over 12 years of age should apply comfrey ointment in a sufficient layer and rub it well into the damaged area up to 3 times a day. The ointment can be used for compresses: in such cases, the preparation is applied to the skin, a bandage is applied on top and wrapped in cellophane, left for several hours or overnight.
The duration of therapy with the ointment may depend on the degree of tissue damage and the general condition of the body, but it is not recommended to use the drug for more than 1.5 months during the year.
Before using Comfrey Ointment for the first time, you should test the preparation on a small area of skin. If there is no allergic reaction, you can use the preparation without fear.
Avoid contact with eyes and wash your hands thoroughly after using the product.
