Pharmacodynamics

The drug acts by depolarizing the cell walls, which causes neuro-muscular paralysis in parasites. The result is a spasm of the musculature of helminths, which are then excreted during peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract.

Pharmacokinetics

Pyrantel is poorly absorbed inside the intestine, primarily due to the low solubility of pyrantel pamoate. After ingesting a dosage of 10 mg / kg orally, the serum Cmax value is approximately 0.005-0.13 μg / ml and is noted after 1-3 hours.

Part of the drug is involved in intrahepatic metabolic processes, after which it is excreted in an unchanged state and in the form of derivatives. A maximum of 7% of the substance is excreted with urine.
