Nasonex for adenoids in children is one of the drugs that is used today as a drug of choice. The effectiveness of this drug is studied in many studies and proven in practice. To explain the effect of the drug, it is important to know the mechanism of its action and indications.
What are adenoids and how does nasonex work?
Adenoids are a chronic disease characterized by an enlargement of the pharyngeal tonsil, which leads to difficulty breathing through the nose and other similar symptoms. This condition constantly bothers the child, and during viral infections the tonsil enlarges even more, which disrupts the child's normal breathing. The tonsil is a cluster of lymphoid tissue that reacts to an infectious agent and is part of the body's local immune defense. It is very difficult to influence the child's immune system, so treating adenoids has always been difficult.
Today, it is recommended to start treatment of adenoids with intranasal corticosteroids. Several mechanisms are proposed to explain the reduction of adenoids under the influence of these drugs: direct lympholytic action, suppression of inflammation with a decrease in concomitant edema of the adenoids, as well as an indirect effect on the nature of the adenoid microflora. It has now been proven that intranasal corticosteroids can reduce the symptoms of adenoids, regardless of the child's atopic status. And even if the child does not have allergic rhinitis, the use of such treatment can reduce the degree of hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsil.
For the purpose of such local treatment, many intranasal hormonal preparations can be used, one of which is Nasonex. The mechanism of action of this preparation for adenoids is to reduce swelling and reduce sensitization of the pharyngeal tonsil. This leads to a decrease in its activity and, accordingly, its reduction in size.
Indications Nasonex for adenoids in children
Nasonex is a drug whose active ingredient is the hormonal drug mometasone furoate. It is a glucocorticoid in the form of a local agent for the treatment of adenoids and other pathologies of the ENT organs. Indications for the use of Nasonex are not limited to adenoids. The drug is also indicated in the complex treatment of acute sinusitis and allergic rhinitis, as well as for the prevention of exacerbations in seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Release form
The drug is available in a nasal spray with a special detachable nozzle. One bottle of spray contains 120 doses of the drug. This form of release allows it to act specifically in the nasopharynx and reduces the risk of systemic manifestations from the use of the hormonal agent.
The names of the drug may be “Nasonex” or “Nasonex sinus”, they are identical drugs.
Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacodynamics of Nasonex is its local action on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity. The drug is a synthetic hormone, which, when it gets on the mucous membrane, reduces the synthesis of leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators. This in turn reduces the manifestations of allergic hypersensitivity in the nasal cavity.

The drug should also not be used for children under two years of age. In the presence of an acute purulent process in the nasal cavity, Nasonex should also not be used without treatment with other drugs, since it inhibits the inflammatory process.
