Naxodzhin is a nitroimidazole derivative. It is used for amoebic dysentery and other protozoan infections.
Indications Naxojina
It is indicated for the elimination of infectious processes caused by vaginal trichomonas, as well as in the treatment of amoebic dysentery, giardiasis, vaginitis (caused by Gardnerella vaginalis), and acute Vincent's gingivitis.
Release form
Available in tablets, 6 pieces per bottle. One package contains 1 bottle of tablets.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug is a chemotherapeutic agent that destroys vaginal trichomonas and other protozoa (such as intestinal giardia, Lamblia intestinalis and dysenteric amoeba). In addition, Naxodgin affects the following anaerobes: Bacteroides fragilis and Gardnerella vaginalis.
The minimum level of trichomonacidal effect varies in the range of 0.3-3 μg/ml.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug has a high absorption rate after oral administration.
When taking 1 g of the drug three times a day (3 consecutive doses with an interval of 12 hours), the level of the substance in the body reaches 16 mcg/ml 3 hours after the first dose. After 25 hours, this figure is 28 mcg/ml, and after the last dose, it is 7.5 mcg/ml.
Excretion of the active ingredient occurs mainly in the kidneys. In vaginal secretions and urine, the level of the substance and its main decay products is several times higher than the trichomonacid concentration.
With three-time use of the drug in a dose of 1 g (three doses with intervals of 12 hours), the drug level in vaginal secretions, which was determined at the 24th, 48th, and 72nd hour, was equal to 129, 95, and 4 mcg/g, respectively.
Dosing and administration
The medicine is taken orally, immediately after meals.
For trichomoniasis, the adult dosage is 2 g (or 4 tablets) in one dose, immediately after meals. The dosage can also be divided into 3 times a day (with an interval of 12 hours) of 1 g (2 tablets) or 3 times of 250 mg (0.5 tablets). The duration of treatment is 5-7 days. The dosage for children is 15 mg/kg in 3 doses per day (the therapy period lasts 5-7 days).
For amoebic dysentery, the adult dose is 500 mg 2 times a day for 5-10 days. The pediatric dose is 20 mg/kg per day in two doses for 5-10 days.
For giardiasis, the adult dose is 500 mg (1 tablet) taken twice a day for 5-7 days. Children's doses are 15 mg/kg taken twice a day for 5-7 days.
For infectious processes caused by Gardnerella vaginalis, adult dosages are 1 tablet (500 mg) 2 times a day during the first week or 2 g per dose.
For the acute form of Vincent's gingivitis, the adult dose is 1 tablet (500 mg) 2 times a day for 2 days.

Usually the drug is tolerated quite well, and the side effects listed below are mild or moderate, and therefore there is no need to stop taking the drug if they develop. By taking Naxodgin immediately after meals, you can minimize the risk of developing negative consequences.
Possible disorders include heartburn and nausea. Occasionally, dizziness, diarrhea, tongue coating, drowsiness, vomiting, and skin rashes, dry mouth, and a metallic taste in the mouth may occur. Stomatitis or glossitis may develop, urine may darken, and transient leukopenia of moderate severity may occur.
When using metronidazole (the drug has a similar composition to Naxodgin), there was occasional information about the development of pseudomembranous colitis. In addition, metronidazole caused neuropathy (tingling in the limbs, as well as numbness) and epileptiform seizures associated with the use of drugs in high doses or with a long therapeutic course.
Overdose
Signs of overdose include the following disorders: discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract (vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, and nausea) and dizziness. In addition, neurological manifestations may develop - tingling in the limbs, numbness, seizures, and paresthesia.
To get rid of the disorder, gastric lavage and treatment aimed at eliminating pathological symptoms will be required.
Interactions with other drugs
Nimorazole can increase the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, and at the same time reduces the clearance rates of lithium and phenytoin.
Plasma values of the drug decrease in case of combination with phenobarbital. In combination with cimetidine, this indicator, on the contrary, increases.
