Pharmacodynamics
The medicine accelerates the healing of wounds and formations in the oral cavity. It is also an effective immunostimulant. The mechanism of its action is primarily based on the surface-active properties of the drug.
The active component of Miramistin is benzyldimethyl-myristoylamino-propylammonium chloride. Thanks to this substance, viruses, fungi and bacteria die. It draws out the secreted fluid from wounds and prevents the formation of pus. Thus, wounds heal quickly, and tissues and mucous membranes are gradually restored.
Miramistin does not affect the circulatory system, since the drug has a local effect. It is also not absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes. Due to this, the drug is safe not only for adult patients, but also for babies. Sometimes it is even prescribed to infants.
Dosing and administration
The drug is prescribed by specialists when the main symptoms of acute or chronic tonsillitis occur: high body temperature, headache, swollen lymph nodes, and pain in the throat. It is used for inhalation and irrigation of the tonsils. Gargling is also recommended.
Gargling with Miramistin for sore throat
For one procedure, you will need 10-15 ml of the drug. According to the instructions, the medicine does not need to be diluted. Before rinsing, it is advisable to clean the oral cavity with warm water or saline solution (half a teaspoon of salt per glass of water), you can also use herbal decoctions. Three or four procedures should be performed per day. This will help destroy bacteria that provoke inflammation.
To ensure that rinsing gives the desired result, it is advisable to adhere to the basic rules of the procedure:
- do not drink or eat for 30 minutes after rinsing;
- one rinse should last approximately 4-5 minutes;
- to wash the tonsils better, try to pronounce the sound “y” as you exhale;
- If you stick out your tongue, the solution will go deeper.
Irrigation of inflamed tonsils
A special nozzle is used to carry out the procedures. During the day, it is necessary to irrigate the tonsils 3-4 times. For adults, 3-4 presses are enough.
Miramistin for sore throat in children is prescribed from the age of 3. This is due to the fact that small children can accidentally swallow the medicine. If ingested, the drug can cause disturbances in the intestinal microflora and provoke the development of dysbacteriosis.
If the baby has swallowed a small amount of the solution, he should be given plenty of water and activated carbon. Experts also recommend inducing vomiting in the child.
Depending on age, the daily dose is:
- 1 press 3/4 times a day – 3-6 years;
- 2 presses – 7-14 years;
- 3 clicks – over 14 years old.
The average course of treatment is two weeks. Many parents are concerned about overdose. Since the drug is used externally, such phenomena have not been observed.
Inhalations with Miramistin for sore throat
It is recommended to use a nebulizer for the procedure. It is a device that turns the medicine into a fine suspension. Depending on the stage of the disease and the general condition of the patient, the daily dose is determined. Often, 4 ml of a one-percent solution is used for one inhalation.
To achieve the maximum effect, inhalation should be repeated 3 times a day. The duration of inhalation with Miramistin for angina in adults is 10-15 minutes. The course of treatment is 10 days. If necessary, the doctor can shorten or extend it.
Use Mirmistine for sore throats during pregnancy
The choice of therapy methods during pregnancy should be approached with maximum responsibility. Treatment should be, first of all, safe for the health of the expectant mother and effective.
Unfortunately, a pregnant woman is not immune from throat diseases. Pharmacists claim that when the first signs of sore throat appear, Miramistin can be used. The drug kills all bacteria and viruses that can provoke the progression of the disease. It is allowed to use it only for treating the mucous membrane of the throat.
In the first trimester, the drug can only be prescribed by a doctor after an examination and an accurate diagnosis. Despite the fact that the drug is safe, many doctors believe that its use is possible only from the 4th month of pregnancy.
In the second trimester, the drug can be used only in case of urgent need. Rinsing with Miramistin is prescribed for herpetic sore throat in pregnant women. During the procedure, care must be taken to ensure that the substance does not get inside. The drug promotes the healing of ulcers and prevents bacteria from penetrating the throat.
From the sixth month of pregnancy, specialists prescribe the use of the medicine in the form of a spray.
Storage conditions
To ensure that the medicine does not lose its beneficial properties, it should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Do not leave the medicine in places accessible to children.
Shelf life
The shelf life of Miramistin (solution) is two years from the date of manufacture.
