The drug Meteospasmyl is a combination drug containing the following active ingredients:
- Alverin is a myotropic antispasmodic that relieves spasms of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. It helps to reduce pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome and other functional digestive disorders.
- Simethicone is an anti-gas medication that helps reduce the formation and get rid of gas in the gastrointestinal tract. It works by breaking up gas bubbles, which reduces bloating and discomfort associated with excessive gas in the intestines.
Meteospasmyl is used for the symptomatic treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other intestinal disorders such as bloating, dyspepsia, and abdominal discomfort.
It is important to remember that the use of Meteospasmyl should be carried out only on the recommendation of a doctor and in accordance with the instructions for use. Self-medication or exceeding the dosage may lead to undesirable side effects and complications. Before starting to take the drug, you should consult with a medical specialist.
Indications Meteospasmyla
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Meteospasmyl is often used to reduce IBS symptoms such as abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating and problems defecating.
- Gas formation: Simethicone, one of the components of the drug, helps to reduce the formation of gas in the intestines and facilitate the discharge of gas.
- Abdominal pain: The drug may be used to relieve abdominal pain from a variety of causes, including intestinal spasms.
- Dyspepsia: Meteospasmyl may help manage symptoms of dyspepsia such as heartburn, belching, and a feeling of heaviness in the stomach.

Pharmacodynamics
-
Alverin:
- Alverin is an antispasmodic drug that has a myotropic effect on the smooth muscle of the GI tract. It blocks calcium channels and inhibits the synthesis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cyclic GMP), which leads to relaxation of intestinal smooth muscles.
- Alverin is commonly used to reduce abdominal cramps and pain caused by various functional digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), colic, and others.
-
Simethicone:
- Simethicone is a defomenting agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the GI tract. It facilitates the formation and escape of gases, which helps to reduce bloating, flatulence and pain associated with excessive gas formation.
- Simethicone is commonly used for the symptomatic treatment of bloating, flatulence, abdominal bloating and discomfort associated with excessive gas.
-
Collaborative Action:
- The combination of alverin and simethicone in Meteospasmil allows to provide comprehensive treatment of symptoms associated with GI motility disorders and excessive gas formation.
-
Efficiency:
- The use of Meteospasmyl can reduce intestinal spasms and improve the process of excretion of gas, which leads to a decrease in pain and discomfort in the abdomen.
Pharmacokinetics
-
Alverin:
- Absorption: Alverin is generally well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration.
- Distribution: After absorption, alverin is rapidly distributed to tissues and organs of the body.
- Metabolism: Alverin is metabolized in the liver with the formation of active metabolites.
- Excretion: Metabolites of alverine are excreted predominantly through the kidneys.
- Half-life: The half-life of alverine is about 1-2 hours.
-
Simethicone:
- Absorption: Simethicone is virtually unabsorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and remains in the intestine where it breaks down gas bubbles, facilitating their elimination from the body.
- Distribution: Simethicone is not distributed in tissues and organs of the body, but acts locally in the intestine.
- Metabolism: Simethicone is not metabolized.
- Excretion: Simethicone is excreted unchanged through the intestine.
- Half-life: Simethicone is rapidly excreted from the body, its half-life is several hours.
Dosing and administration
How to use and dosage for adults and children over 12 years of age:
- Dosage: It is generally recommended to take 1 capsule 2-3 times a day before meals.
- How to take: Capsules should be swallowed whole with water. It is not recommended to chew the capsule, as this may disturb the special coating designed to protect the active ingredients and ensure their gradual release in the gastrointestinal tract.
- When to take: It is best to take capsules 20-30 minutes before meals to help relieve digestive related symptoms.
Duration of treatment:
- The duration of the course of treatment with Meteospasmyl depends on the individual characteristics of the patient's condition and the doctor's recommendations. As a rule, the drug is taken until the disappearance of symptoms.
Important points:
- If symptoms persist or worsen after several days of taking Meteospasmyl, you should contact your doctor to review your treatment regimen.
- During treatment, you should avoid foods and drinks that may increase abdominal bloating and discomfort.
- The drug should be used with caution if you have certain medical conditions or if you are taking other medicines. Be sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking.
Use Meteospasmyla during pregnancy
Regarding the use of Meteospasmyl during pregnancy, it is important to consider the following:
- Consult your doctor: Always discuss the use of any medication with your doctor during pregnancy, including Meteospasmyl. Your doctor will be able to assess the benefits of treatment compared to the potential risks to you and your baby.
- Safety during pregnancy: Simethicone, which is contained in the drug, is generally considered safe for pregnant women because it is not absorbed into the bloodstream and has no systemic effects on the body. However, alverin may have less safety data during pregnancy, so its use may require caution.
- Individualized Use: The decision to use Meteospasmyl during pregnancy should be individualized and based on your symptoms, medical history, and other factors.
- Alternatives: In some cases, your doctor may recommend alternative methods of managing IBS symptoms, such as dietary changes or exercise, to avoid the use of medications.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity: Patients with known hypersensitivity to alverine, simethicone or other components of the drug should not use the drug due to the risk of allergic reactions.
- Known Drug Allergies: People with a history of allergic reactions to similar drugs or their ingredients should also avoid using Meteospasmyl.
- Biliarypain attacks: Use of the drug is not recommended for biliary pain attacks, as it may worsen symptoms or increase the risk of complications.
- Bowel obstruction: Meteospasmyl should be used with caution in patients with known or suspected bowel obstruction, as it may worsen the situation.
- Children: Data on safety and efficacy of the drug in children may be limited, therefore use in this age group requires consultation with a physician.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: It is important to consult your doctor before using Meteospasmyl during pregnancy or breastfeeding to assess the benefits and risks of its use in this case.

Interactions with other drugs
- Drugsaffecting the digestive tract: Drugs that speed up or slow down intestinal peristalsis may change the speed at which meteospasmyl passes through the gastrointestinal tract. This may affect its effectiveness.
- Drugsaffecting absorption: Drugs that reduce absorption in the intestine, such as iron, antacids or calcium, may reduce the bioavailability of the drug.
- Drugs affecting gas: Suppressing intestinal gas with meteospasmyl may change when combined with other drugs that affect digestion or gas, such as probiotics or drugs containing simethicone.
- Drugs that increase hypotensive effect: Alverin may have a weak vasodilatory effect. In this regard, hypotensive effect may be enhanced when combined with antihypertensive drugs.
- Drugs affecting liver and kidney function: Changes in liver and kidney function may affect metabolism and excretion of meteospasmyl from the body. In case of hepatic or renal dysfunction, dosage adjustment may be necessary.
