Menovalen has a hypnotic and sedative therapeutic effect.
The drug exhibits a weak sedative effect; it is prescribed to eliminate low-intensity, temporary nervous tension associated with physical or intellectual stress, irritability, fatigue or strong emotional arousal. [ 1 ]
The medicine contains natural elements of plant origin - an extract obtained from valerian, as well as peppermint.
Indications Menovalen
It is used in cases of neurosis development, accompanied by the following symptoms: anxiety, excessive nervous excitement, decreased concentration, nightmares, poor sleep and difficulty falling asleep.
Release form
The drug is released in capsules - 10 pieces inside a cellular package; there are 2 such packages inside the box.
Pharmacodynamics
Valerian extract includes a complex of alkaloids with essential oils that have a mild sedative effect on the human nervous system. This element promotes sleep and reduces nervous tension. It is prescribed for neuroses affecting the cardiovascular system, which are characterized by various vascular spasms, as well as for migraines or epilepsy and asthma. It can be used for neurodermatitis.
Peppermint potentiates the activity of valerian. This plant contains various terpenoids, microelements, menthol with carotene, rutin, flavonoids and tannins.
Dosing and administration
The capsules must be swallowed whole, without chewing or opening them, with plain water.
The medication is prescribed in the amount of 1 capsule, 3 times a day, before meals (20-30 minutes).
In case of mild insomnia, take 1-2 capsules 1-1.5 hours before bedtime (unless otherwise indicated by a doctor).
The therapeutic cycle is selected individually; usually capsules are taken during the first month.
If there is no improvement after a 2-week treatment cycle, it is necessary to clarify the diagnosis and change the treatment regimen.
- Application for children
Do not administer to persons under 12 years of age.
Use Menovalen during pregnancy
There is too little information regarding the effect of the drug on the child's body, which is why it is better not to take it during breastfeeding or pregnancy.
Contraindications
The medication is usually tolerated without complications, but there are contraindications to its use:
- intolerance to any of the components of the drug;
- persistent severe drowsiness or systemic weakness;
- decreased blood pressure values;
- depression or other conditions in which suppression of the central nervous system activity is observed.
Side effects Menovalen
Side effects of the capsules include:
- drowsiness, systemic weakness, dizziness, depression and headaches;
- pain in the heart area, palpitations, tachycardia or bradycardia, as well as a decrease in blood pressure;
- liver intoxication;
- decreased physical performance and concentration, anxiety, insomnia and paradoxical arousal in the nervous system;
- nausea, pain in the epigastric region, heartburn, indigestion, constipation and diarrhea;
- various allergy symptoms, hives, dyspnea, swelling and itching.
Negative symptoms develop only occasionally, mainly in cases of drug abuse and uncontrolled consumption of large doses over a long period of time.
Overdose
In case of poisoning, photosensitivity, nausea, systemic weakness, tremors, compression in the chest area, headaches, dilation of the pupils and weakening of visual and auditory acuity are observed.
If necessary, gastric lavage and enterosorbents are performed, as well as symptomatic actions. After this, the drug is canceled and the attending physician is consulted.
Interactions with other drugs
It is prohibited to combine the drug with artificial sedatives.
Menovalen potentiates the effect on the nervous system of such drugs as diazepam, zopiclone with phenobarbital, tranquilizers and anxiolytics with chlordiazepoxide, as well as antispasmodics, neuroleptics, sleeping pills and sedatives, nootropics and zolpidem. In addition, this list includes alcohol, painkillers, curare-type muscle relaxants and hypotensive agents.
During the therapy period, it is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages.
Storage conditions
Menovalen must be stored at temperatures standard for medicinal substances.
Shelf life
Menovalen can be used for a period of 24 months from the date of production of the therapeutic agent.
