Megamag is a magnesium medicine containing magnesium aspartate.

Indications Megamaga

It is used to eliminate magnesium deficiency, which causes the following disorders:

  • a feeling of irritability, and also nervousness, a feeling of strong anxiety or fatigue, and also minor sleep disorders;
  • a state of anxiety characterized by stomach cramps and increased heart rate in people who do not have heart disease;
  • paresthesia and spasms in the muscle area.

Release form

The drug is released in capsules, 20 pieces per blister pack. There are 2 such packs in a box.

Pharmacodynamics

Magnesium is an intracellular cation, which is second only to calcium in its abundance. It is a cofactor of many enzyme systems, participating in some biochemical processes inside cells (such as protein binding, glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and DNA transcription). At the same time, it is an important participant in the processes of ion flow formation, cell wall stabilization, and regulation of calcium and potassium ion levels inside cells. In addition, magnesium reduces neuronal excitability and neuromuscular transmission.

Magnesium deficiency states can be divided into moderate (serum level is 12-17 mg/l) and severe (serum level is below 12 mg/l).

Magnesium deficiency can have the following nature:

  • primary – caused by congenital metabolic problems (chronic form of congenital hypomagnesemia);
  • secondary - associated with insufficient intake of this element into the body (in alcoholism, severe hypotrophy, and nutrition exclusively by parenteral method), with the syndrome of insufficient absorption (chronic diarrhea, fistulas inside the intestine and hypoparathyroidism) or with increased excretion of magnesium (in polyuria, tubulopathy, chronic pyelonephritis, abuse of diuretic drugs, primary hyperaldosteronism and therapy using cisplatin).

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of magnesium salts inside the gastrointestinal tract is carried out, among other things, by means of a passive mechanism, taking into account salt solubility. The absorption rate of magnesium salts is no higher than 50%.

Magnesium excretion occurs primarily through the kidneys.

Dosing and administration

For adults.

Take 4-6 capsules per day. This dosage is divided into several doses and then taken with food, washing down the capsules with a glass of plain water.

For children.

Children over 6 years of age (and weighing more than 20 kg) are required to take 2-4 capsules per day (divide the daily portion into several uses).

It is recommended to take the drug for at least 1-2 months. In the case of therapy in case of some pathological conditions (such as malabsorption syndrome or primary magnesium deficiency), the duration of the course may be increased taking into account medical indications.

Use Megamaga during pregnancy

Special tests regarding the use of drugs during pregnancy have not been conducted, but in clinical conditions no negative toxic effect of magnesium on the fetus has been noted. Also, no development of any congenital anomalies has been observed. However, observing safety rules, it is recommended to prescribe magnesium products to pregnant women only in cases where the need for their use has been proven. Therapy should be carried out under the supervision of a physician.

Since magnesium is excreted in breast milk, you should avoid taking Megamag while breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • the presence of high sensitivity to the active ingredient or other components of the drug, especially in people with diagnosed allergy to wheat (except celiac disease);
  • severe renal failure (CC level is less than 30 ml/minute).

Side effects Megamaga

There are reports of the development of side effects such as abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Overdose

Poisoning may result in the development of anuria.

To eliminate the disorder, forced diuresis and rehydration are required. In case of kidney failure, peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis is required.

Interactions with other drugs

It is forbidden to combine the drug with quinidine, because this causes an increase in the toxic properties of the latter (due to the fact that its excretion in urine is weakened).

Magnesium compounds have an antagonistic effect on calcium compounds.

When magnesium drugs are combined with tetracycline, iron drugs, and sodium fluoride, the absorption of the above elements is weakened. If the drug is combined with antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, and CNS-suppressing drugs, their properties are potentiated.
